I had to comment. What do you mean with OP? Have you flown either? One is a stable, high wing loading barge. The other is a fully unstable with the largest deltas and aft center of gravity in comparison to center of lift. Where is the OP?

That only works in simulator. In real life as soon as you get lower, you are dead because of land based systems of mid and short range everywhere. Being low you are also easy target for planes that are high above. Those can rain missiles on you from top and all you can do is to turn. You cannot use verticals at all. You have no energy for effective climb and you cannot dive to gain speed and vanish. Unless you have MiG31 where you just lit the burners and go supersonic in few seconds.

Are all fighter jets capable of accelerating from ~550mph to supersonic, at low altitude, with combat load, within just a few seconds? And is the MiG31 in particular capable of that? Of course, MiG31 is intended to act as an interceptor, not a fighter, right? So maybe MiG31 isn't even pertinent to the conversation, as there's not much chance for it to be over territory containing enemy SAMs, right? Probably no hoards of higher-altitude fighters to rain down missiles either, right? At least not at the start of an engagement... But 68,000lbs thrust on tap in reheat (per Wikipedia), with max speed Mach 2.83, is impressive. I don't know, I'm just a moron looking for multiple opinions and info.

He should work on his acm though. When the enemy is rolling above you, you never want to point your nose at him (unless you have a shot) but behind him. If you direct your motion towards the enemy, you'll get an impossible turning angle once you merge with him again. But if you trail his 'shadow' ie behind him, you can set up a much shallower angle.

GS: Just a quick shot. Give'm something to think about. LS: Brrrt....Brrrt....BRRRRRRRRRRRR - BOOM!

Two of my favorite planes having it out! It was great fun to watch, even if I couldn't figure out who to root for. That kill Psycho got on you, had me cheering, epic. Loved the video, loved the narration, excellent quality as always. Cheers.

It's interesting to see the differences in fighting styles between LS and Sidewinder. LS is much more aggressive but sometimes to a fault (runs out of missiles) whereas, SW is patient and always lines up his shot for a better chance at a hit, ie., no head-on stuff.

GS also runs out of missiles and gets in long engagements where he ends up lower altitude going in circles. He also gets killed every time he says he thinks he is in the clear.

I think we have different opinion in this and if we would ask all the countries in the baltic seas who they feel is threatening peace and stability all would say russia. We would not be needing our military forces if it not was of russias doings, like occupy Ukraine in Crimea, flying bombers close to our countries borders etc. It has nothing to do with US weapon export to do. And Russia is no threat in the economic field for the Nordic countries.

Can you do Rafale Vs. Gripen? Both are European fighters, and you haven't covered Rafale in a while.

I just realized that in round 5, had you Flanker driver waited a little longer, he may have tried to shoot you as you crossed his nose, and i remember that one time it actually happened to you a few vids back brother.. So... the painjob on this one is the E/F versions... but the cockpit is that of the C/D version Weird

Congratulations on the video, take my doubts because this cockpit is from the Gripen C/D model and not from the Gripen E/F updated version. from what I saw on sites specializing in the scare, the differences are huge. Do you have this Gripen E version on the simulator?

Back in 2015 China and Thailand had an exercise where Thai Gripens faced off against Chinese J-11 Flankers. Interestingly, the Chinese Flankers were very successful in dogfights against Gripens - with a 25-1 kill ratio in the first two days of the exercise. But after that they switched to BVR engagements and there the Gripens shined, with a 41-6 kill ratio in their favour. Maybe Pythons make all the difference; or maybe not, since guns played a prominent role in this video. But I would expect dogfights to be very much in the Su-35's favour.

That's understandable. The weakness of the Gripen is lack of power. That's why it's easy prey in dogfight, not just for Flanker. On the other hand, Gripen's strengths are in avionics and electronic warfare systems. That's why it's lethal in BVR fights.

The su 35 would lose the rate fight all day here. The gripen turn radius is very short compared to the 35.

Awesome video LS as always, you and your buddy's deliver alot off fun and interesting aerial fights inthis beautiful game! Though i wish there would be some kind of way to confirm the mods off all those lovely planes being as close to reality as possible! But never mind its greatly entertaining to watch you guys roaming the skies in all this variation off machines ...not least when you and GS fly together in F-14 (crazy fun)! =D

Basically everything SFM is total BS. If you want to be sure, stick with A-4 and MB-339.

@@ramirozanon6435 don’t compare Western technology with Russians. It’s other levels, su doesn’t even have AESA radar how it can beat grippen if this beast is superior to Typhoon and F-15 with F-16?

I had just tore the Typhoon and Rafale MODs apart for quality issues. The Gripen is perfect example of another so so MOD. Positives are For HOB capability on Gripen unlike Typhoon or Rafale. You can use the AVAILABLE Python code for HOB capability. Also the cockpit in Gripen looks much more period correct than either the Typhoon or the Rafale. Gripen still has major drawbacks in its MOD. Flight model is to loose, No HMD which Gripen can be adapted for HMD. Coding is available. Freaking MOD designers look at latest F-22 MOD, Su-35 MOD, F-16 SUFI MOD and similar MODs as your baselines. If you can’t produce quality MOD than freaking keep working before releasing.

The problem is that no one got any reliable data on the gripen performance... they can only do qualified guesses.

So that's a Gripen E judging by the bigger displays. The Gripen E can lock on sideways and fire in case people don't know. At least the meteor missiles.

The canards are bugging the hell out of me…I can’t imagine that’s the correct way for them to be angling…

The dogfight I knew has changed a lot with these super-maneuverable missiles...

The BFM a gentleman's agreement that there are no shots taken until after the merge. ROUND 2 as soon as you met you shot off a sidewinder at him. Third round idk but that was a little too close to call. Love your vids, especially in sidewinders first one to turn and lock or gets tone gets first shot. Maybe I'm mistaken

@@immortaltitan3839 The canards are programmed to channel air instead of acting as an opposite elevator when the aircraft is at a certain alpha, cause typically at high alpha the air below the wings is moving at a greater and smoother speed than the turbulent air above the wing,this could lead to a stall as the wings at this point is more of an airbrake, to prevent stalling the canards redirect air over the wing to prevent turbulent air from forming and maintaining proper airflow to generate lift Sukhois are well known to do this

one piece of advice. turn your after burner off when you see a fox 2 shot. It helps a lot.

In dogfight Gripen is not a winner but it is constructed from the Swedish strategy and tactic. If you get into a dogfight you have done something wrong. Our tactic is based om better on board radar and information from our stridsledare (fight leader). So the idea is long distance fight. That this idea works have the Thailand air force tested and found out in an exercis. In dig fight Gripen lost but in distant engagement they won.

In reality it's even manouverible...because canards are better then thrust vectoring.

The canards move in the wrong direction. Up is down, down is up, for canards.

Always love Gripen content. Saab and Lockheed-Martin are competing for fighter contracts in Canada and it’s down to the Gripen and the F-35. I personally prefer the Gripen as the F-35 program seems bloated and expensive. I was curious, if given the choice between the two what would you pick?

It comes down to whether or not they want stealth capabilities. Gripen us 4.5 gen while the 35 is a 5th. Either way they have two very capable aircraft to choose from.

Gripen is defensive for air policing, while F 35 has offensive stealth capabilities. Gripen is cheap to buy and maintain.

With the sun on the horizon, at the merge, Wouldn’t a pulling up turn with altitude allow to track aircraft below on a cold background better? Plus the gravity assist allows a faster turn.

Why? a bajonet is still a useful under special circumstances, but do you care what modern assult rifle have the longest bajonet?

the 35,s vector thrust will apply assymetrical thrust , thus twisting its nose, plan for it the pilot has no control at that point,the mechanics has doomed the plane to a twistly flight reponse plan on it, use it to adjust your approach. Notice that the su-35 postion himself above you . this is its strength, if you approach so that at the merge the su 35 is below you the su-35 has to scoop off and not use "the twisty short fight". Thats its weakness. There are pros and cons to thrust vector.

Very funny video...Gripen must meet with SU 35 at anywhere. Lets see what will happen ? :))

I wonder if DCS is able to emulate the full maneuver capabilities of the planes. If It's true, Gripen is way more agile than SU35. What is easier to hit? A pigeon or a hummingbird?

Yes if you havent got the right missiles under the wing and if the pilot is fast asleep, you will get these results.

Simulation is different from a real fight. The gripen wouldn't stand a chance in a real fight because the su 35 has more speed and flies higher than the gripen. Lol....

stupid, there isnt only one missing , simulation is only similar and virtualy look like real. There isnt real g force, no logic mind to fight whenever you theoritically have less advantage compare to your opponent or vice versa, there is no support from ground or surface units or another air unit, i mean for both sides. Hangar and airport preparation and condition isnt mentioned. Latest condition of pilots and aircraft not mentioned. And so on , so on and on. Simulators and games are STUPID!

Canards looks like inverted for the movement. It seems that the canards want to take the nose down (sorry for my english, greetings from Argentina)

Data link. It needs to point to the direction, and from there the seaker takes. It also has seakers on the sides

I liked this fight more than the F-22 vs Su-35 you had against GS, you were really focused after the first round in this Gripen vs Su-35, GS in the F-22 vs Su-35 really annoyed me how much unfocused and full of mistakes he was.
