Ha! I’d recommend it. They’re fairly inexpensive, but you could also spend a bit more and get a Slow ‘n Sear.

It was a pair I got off of Amazon. Just search for heat resistant bbq gloves and you’ll find similar options.

Which Chimney did you use the small Weber or the larger one? As the one you used seem to be the perfect size to fill those side briquette holders.

That’s the standard Weber chimney (not the compact one).

I shut off the lower and upper vents to choke off the burn. It never shut down, 3 hours later it I still over 200 degrees. My old style vents w/o u 's shut it down in just over 90 minutes? Any advice?

The main thing is that it’s still probably getting oxygen. So you could look at replacing the ash cleaner or bending it down so it’s fully closing the bottom vents, or you could use some foil to help close up any vents that are still letting air in.

Hi, I am trying to decide between the 5770 and the standard master touch 5755 without the Hinge lid; I see that the ring and plate are a huge benefit but is there still issues with the hinge after a fix? and with Gasket tape - basically is it not worth the risk and just to get the standard master touch because of the lid not closing - or is it resolved nowadays/ fixed with the hack? what would you recommend between the two models?

I haven’t used the Master-Touch Premium yet (I’ve been debating between trying that or getting a Kettle Joe since it checks all of those boxes as well), so I can’t speak to the issues with the hinge. You can remove the lid from the hinge on that version, however, so would think you’d at least be able to bypass it somewhat. I would say that the diffuser plate and charcoal ring are really nice upgrades since you can’t get them separately, but I guess the question you’d have to ask yourself at that point is if it’s worth an extra $100 for that. If you’re going to be be using it for a lot of low-and-slow cooks then yeah, it’d probably be worth it. But not if you’re planning on doing more direct grilling. You can still do low and slow on a standard Master Touch, but I do like the idea of saving some grilling space by having the diffuser plate and not having to rely on multiple zones with your charcoal.

Great video. So dumb that Weber places the thermometer opposite the vent. Most of us indirect on them and the thermometer over the fire renders it pointless.

Couldn’t agree more. It basically forces us to utilize a probe or another thermometer anyway.

Can you drill a hole next to the vent and mount the thermometer there and plug the original thermometer hole with a stainless bolt and nut?
