Just for info, not taking a side. The 'problem' was when some poeple who identefied as greymuzzles said they were pro LGB, but disliked Q, and hated T+ people. That stired up the fandom like 2 or 3 years ago, and some kids have yet to forgive and forget.

I feel like Greymuzzles should be reserved for anyone over the age of 50. Im over 30 and only have a few grays but thats annoying that me thinking I like the original xbox or having an iphone 1 shouldnt consider me old. Or even knowing what a diskman is :P

I'm 35 myself and remember VHS tapes. It's an odd feeling getting asked what those are by younger furs. I even had an original NES. I may be considered a Greymuzzle but like you I feel that term should be for 50+ furs.

To me the term is about as characteristic as Boomer. It originally was just a general term for a group of certain age, then became an insult for someone “out of touch” with the younger generation. Even at 25, having a beard and quite a few grays have gotten me some shocked looks when I reveal my age.

I'm 17 and I think greymuzzles are charming and admirable. It's cool that people have been doing this since the early early 80s, and haven't given it up, even with age. Guess it just reminds me of nerding out about geeky stuff with my dad, and I miss it. btw, greymuzzles to me are over 50 at least. I think 30 is still pretty young. Also, Beta you're like 5 years younger then my eldest sister. so you're not that old to me :).

You don't reach Graymuzzle status unless you played on an Atari 2600 when they originally came out! *Raises Paw* :P

Heck, we had one growing up but was not when it came out. 83 baby here and keystone capers is still one of my favorite games. Phoenix was also pretty neat. Probably why I just laugh at folks complaining about graphics. Our main characters were at best 10 pixels.

I'm going to be 30 next year, but I'm not even 4 years in the fandom right now. I refuse to be a Greymuzzle already and this is the last word in this conversation puppykitten.

Greymuzzle here (soon to be 37). I honestly don't consider myself old. I starred in the fandom in 2010, two years after college. And I would think being a Greymuzzle would be a badge of honor having stayed in the fandom.

I joined the fandom when I was still in college.

Of course, there's those who just lump all older people into the "greymuzzle" label. They're usually the Zoomer era kids all over social media these days. "They're 28? Wow, what a greymuzzle!" It's all a matter of perspective. To me, being a greymuzzle has more to do with time spent in the fandom than someone's age. They'd need to have hands-on experience within the fandom before or during the dawn of the Internet (late 80s, early 90s) for me to consider them as such. For example, someone in their 50s today who just joined the fandom last year wouldn't be a greymuzzle in my book. They'd just be an older aged furry. Said people might find they relate a lot with greymuzzles as far as sharing common knowledge of the same age group, but they also lack the experience of how the fandom was back then.

Sometimes I call myself old both jokingly and seriously. Mainly because I find myself talking about games or tv shows that many dont know, it always ends being a "back in my day conversation" 🤣 but I never feel bad because of the wealth of info& life experience I use to help others. Also Zuka in the thumbnail also made me smile, meeting him was one of the best moments of my life

I'm turning 40 soon... Been in this since age 24.... I'm a very proud greymuzzle...and in greymuzzle fashion, the current climate in the fandom has made me step away a bit....

The group I hang out with normally on VR chat has an average age of 33. There's a lot less Twitter drama but more yea, I've got doctor visits coming up for this or talking to my therapist about that.

Gray muzzles I think are at least 40 if not 50 and over

3:51 I might not have experienced Gran Turismo 4 firsthand on a true console, but that game, even for today: Incredible. great cars, great progression, great music, great handling model, "ok" graphics and hooks right up to my force feedback steering wheel (the force feedback WORKS, down Circuit La Sarthe in a high downforce Nissan race car, nearly shook my hands clean off), truly ahead of it's time and no wonder mr. Clarkson, the motoring authority, had a lot to say about it, I'm telling you right now, get a PS2 emulator, a LEGAL copy of GT4, it's low to no system requirement and lots of fun

This video aged me, and I had to remind myself I’m older than Beta. I like to make myself feel old, but not when others do. For context, I remember when Pokémon was still in its first two generations, and was all that kids talked about in school. Meanwhile, I was “too mature” for that with a PS1 and loads of rated M games that I was too young to be playing.

@@KiraSlith True. I look back at those games compared to now, and even if they were less gorey, they had the shock factor that games these days seem to lack despite being more gruesome.

I would say a greymuzzle is at the age where you cab be able to go into a grcoery store and get 10-15% off your non alochol or tobacco purchases.

I still remember getting my first ps2 from toys R us. I think my first game for it was a ratchet and clank game, I think the original.

when i think greymuzzle, i envision someone over 30 who's in the furry community more for the "geeky" aspects than the self-identity or animal aspects. or just someone who would take any chance they get to regale you with all the specs of their car. regardless of age shouts to chise and remy for being two furries over 30 that haven't lost their touch /gen

I turn 47 in a couple of months, been "officially" in the fandom 15 years but a fan of animal characters in stories/film/games since I was a little kid. Also, my first console was an Odyssey II, followed by NES, SEGA Genesis with SEGA CD add-on. Mostly I played PC games, which I had to load using DOS because Windows wasn't really a thing yet. And each game had about 10-12 floppy disks (the big, thin ones). Good times.

My childhood consoles were the GameBoy Color and PS1. We’re talking Pokémon Red, Kirby’s Dreamland, Lion King, and Spyro, Rayman and Muppet Monsters. Absolute bangers all around 👌🏻 I personally though a "graymuzzle" was someone in the fandom over 40 or 50. Never knew some saw it as an insult, I always saw it as a respectful term. Like an older, wiser furry. I just saw "Respect the Founding Furthers" and yes.

My first console was the DS lite I am only 18 I really don’t want people too start calling it a retro console

I had a Gameboy Color growing up and I still have the memories of needing set in the strangest way possible under the lamp just so I could see the screen, I also had a PS3 and an Xbox 360 growing up for about 8 years

I find it kind of funny that the younger furs are useing graymuzzle like teens useing boomer this was inevitable best way to get back at them is just embrace it

The ps2 was also my childhood console. The games I played on it consists of Sly Cooper, Monster Jam, Grand Turismo, Spider-Man, and Spyro the Dragon (ps1)

Jesus, is the PS2 seriously considered retro, now? I'm only 17 and that makes me feel ancient.

I love Odd Tinkering. His video of him restoring an original Xbox was how I was able to find out why my original Xbox was not working properly (turned out the rubber band for the disc tray was worn out, so I replaced it). His console and console periphery restorations are the best.

Never forget that hand-me-downs exist. My first console was a Colecovision, but I wasn't even a twinkle in anyone's eye when that came out.

I've been a furry for 20 years but I didn't really put any effort into a sona until I started playing VRChat late last year. So I'm kind of in limbo there. But I did feel like a greymuzzle when I met a 14 year old kid at Furality and instantly went into dad mode. I was like, "BEEP BOOP MUST PASS ON WISDOM TO SMOL BEAN WITH COOL AVI"

It wasn't a console, those weren't really a thing over here till a bit later, they called them Home Computers back then. It was an Acorn Electron, a cut down BBC Micro. From 1984, though I did get it second hand quite a bit after it came out.

I grew up with my ps2, with games like Jak and Daxter, ratchet and clank, sly cooper, navel Ops warship gunner, the army men games, as well as tv shows like Ed Edd n Eddy, Johnny bravo, fosters home for imaginary friends, and others.

1981 Here. I started on the Atari. I like the term gray-fur better as my fursona is an Owl.

@@kvjbreaker7054 nah, I don't think my life's over. It's if you're surrounded by younger people or if it's things you can't really do anymore. No spending all day with friends or being in school with all your friends, people tend to "grow" up and are not as playful anymore, you can't really go to a camp anymore, some memories you've made or didn't can't exactly be recreated.... basically life changes, and things you used to do, things that brought you joy are "gone". There's always other stuff that's real awesome but yeah....kinda depressing tbh that you never get the chance to experience that again. You grow older and get all the money you need but you sacrifice youth, time and possibly friends. Sure working on your car or computer is nice but I would always trade it for the 8 year old me playing some Pokémon Fire Red with my then best friend all afternoon after carelessly chugging some hot chocolate thinking about if my friend can stay over for the night so we can play some more next day.

I think it fine to be freinds with people above or below your age range as long as you all have the maturity for it. One of my first D&D groups I joined when I was 17. The other players were in their late 20s and the DM was in their late 30s. It's realy just about who you surround yourself with

My early childhood consisted of my micro gameboy advanced, my ps1 and my ps2 I have so many great memories of me playing so many fun games with my ps2.

I think people online say "30" is a greymuzzle because of how young the popular parts of the internet are. My parents are old at 50 only because I'm the first born at 20 years old

The original definition was over 30, OR in the fandom for 10 years. It's not necessarily someone who is "old", as much as one who is a long time fur. Which is where it was intended as a term of respect. Someone who could provide guidance.

My childhood console was N64. I was born in 2007. Best console IMO.

I'd have to go with the original xbox with Halo. That was my first console and my parents bought me Doom for it... that was a bit of a scare being only five.

The fandom was started by "greymuzzles" and they were open enough to welcome everyone into it. So if anyone's got a problem with greymuzzles, then they are free to heck off, imho. It's really nice having a community with such a large base of proper adults in it, like of course there's drama and nonsense, but it's honestly not as chaotic as other communities and the engagements don't feel anywhere near as fake as others that are predominantly made up of late teens/early 20's folk ie: VTuber community (not to throw them under the bus, it's just one I can speak on from experience).

I remember seeing them in Ash Coyote’s documentary “The Fandom”. They seem like such down to earth, amazing and chill dudes. Also that documentary is what inspired me to join the fandom as I realized that being a furry wasn’t a negative thing that the media portrays it as. That we are just people who want to belong to a community of people that like all things anthropomorphic. We each want respect, fun, being creative, and to be able to maybe make friends or find love. In my case, I’m blessed with have a girlfriend who is a furry as well.

From what I've seen personally, and I prefer this viewpoint, is many greymuzzles refer to themselves as such to help them connect with other furries that aren't younger/juvenile. Basically for furries that are well into adulthood, likely are established in their career or family etc., and would rather connect with members of the fandom that aren't going to act like kids so they can actually level with them.

I have a friend that is 30, and recently he got ridiculed and bullied by a group of 20/21 yo furs at a furcon that he shouldn’t be there cause he was too old. That kind of ridicule does come from a decent amount of teen/early 20’s furs towards those of us 30+.

It still wouldn’t change my opinion of wanting to go to a con if people ridiculed me. I’d ignore them, because there are no official rules for the fandom, nor is there anything that should make me not want to do what I enjoy (within reason).

When i heard the term graymuzzle, i thought of it as the ones that are veteran furs. The ones that started in the 80s and are still active in the community. But im 34, so i guess i am considered a Graymuzzle in terms of age. I don't mind though, as my main sona literally has a gray beard xD Also, my first computer was an Atari 5200 xD My first ever console was the N64. And my first handheld was a Gameboy Color (i still have it and play on it regularly to keep it going)

I grew up with the Game Boy SP Advanced, Wii, 3DS, and Playstation 3. The fact that these consoles are being called retro already makes me feel old and I'm only 19. So I know how ya feel Beta.

I love greymuzzles. ❤ Catz Clan, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Transformice, Animal Jam, ArcheAge (played as a Firran), and Undertale. I even had animal skins on Minecraft and hung out with people who loved furry-related stuff. I cosplayed as my main character of many years. I changed my main fursona in the last couple of years and updated some of the character designs of others. I still love to think about fishing, hunting, and taking care of animals like a normal human-being. To be a furry is a passion. I never went to furry conventions and could count going places with furry-related stuff as being like a convention goer. I do not agree on the therian theory of being and remain as a normal human-being with no fursuit. I don't identify as an animal and will jokingly identify as a rock. I really loved to act with my childhood best friend whom still finds me weird to this day. I tried to be a pegasister but fell in love with drawing wolves, cats, dogs, and birds. I get really loopy and out of touch with reality when I want to imagine a great scene when drawing. I never draw pornography and tend to stick to PG-rated images, so that children are able to view the art I create with no problem from their parents. My art makes me really egotistical.

My Childhood console was the Wii/Wii U. I was about 8 and had just got into games. I had the wii for about 2 yrs. before mu mom's asshole friend moved to Louisiana with MY console, and inevitably sold it. I only got the wii U for emulation and NSMBU. The only other thing I played was my friends PS2 and played Ratchet Deadlocked. Now I'm 18 and about ready to become a MILfur.... The Fuck is my life!
