This bar is very dangerous in bad weather, many boats have been lost coming over this bar, Tragically some people have also lost their lives coming over this bar including a cousin of my Dads in 1990

Fish prices should reflect what bad weather and dangers the crews and skippers endure. No fish, no work, no pay!

That’s a bad place. Not a lot of margin for error in those conditions. Check out the crabbers coming and going at St.Paul Alaska. I did that a bunch.. a few times were absolutely terrifying. ( as a deck hand , not in the wheelhouse)
Moral of the story, don't buy a used car from Greymouth.

Has the Resolution ever done this before? Shouldn't let waves overtake you, that's when you yaw a can get sideways and roll.

How do you stop waves overtaking you in a displacement hull that's probably only capable of around 10 knots?

@@paulm7448 you can’t. Probably the safest action is to stand off for a while until conditions change.

I’ll bet the Resolution II’s skipper has done this run hundreds of times, many in worse conditions. Another great fishing day at sea and boring day on land.
