    I realize the natural tendency to compare them to others, but it's much more enjoyable to just sit back and listen. Just appreciate it for what it is, a rock and roll band.

    If any of you ever get the chance to see them live, DO IT. I promise you will not regret it at all. I was in the crowd (five rows back) and the way in which they connected with the crowd was otherworldly. They have this magnetism that few artists have and I believe this comes from the passion that they all have to create great music, and in the fun that they have sharing it with the world. THANK YOU GVF!!!

    HamiltonRb you’re right. I just meant the sound of the 60’s/70’s (they’re bringing it back). Indie rock, alt rock, and everything there after is great, But this band is reviving a beautiful sound. You hear Clapton, Rush, and so many more influences. The riffs and vocals are amazing. There were only a handful “big named” bands before them (white stripes, the black keys, artic Monkeys, the yeah yeah yeahs, etc.) unfortunately, the predecessors could not revive and excite a lot of the young people of today (last couple of years) Like Greta Van Fleet, Dorothy, etc. I love all forms of rock, but this movement is really exciting to me and a bunch of others and it only helps bands and our genre grow. All the mumble rap crap has taken over the last decade and live instrumentation was on the decline. These handful of new bands mainly Greta; has started a movement of old and younger generation to enjoy real rock and roll.

  • @HamiltonRb

    @HamiltonRb

    I'm with you on liking most kinds of music, except rap, and maybe it's because I never grew up with it. I just don't get the whole thing about rappers killing other rappers, and singing about killing cops & calling each other the N word. I mean, what other genre of music does that? You never hear about Springsteen wanting to shoot McCartney. I do like this band, and they have grown a lot in the last year, but they have a ways to go to headline big shows, and hopefully that comes with time & experience. One thing I did notice this summer going to shows like Lynyrd Skynyrd, ELO, ZZ Top and Black Sabbeth, at least a quarter of these sold out shows were kids 22 and under, wearing the band's t shirts, so the rock influence is still strong.

    You're a lucky duck! I tried to get tickets and couldn't. That show sold out back in February when they weren't even "mainstream" on youtube yet. I tried like hell to get tickets and could not. Wanted to go so bad. The next time they'll be in Cleveland I'm guessing it will be either the Wolstein or the Q. The Agora is too small for them now. Especially once their new album drops.

    This video is excellent. This post shows how good Greta Van Fleet were at CALJAM. There is an highlights post that seems to cut out the parts of the set that the audience showed appreciation, such as edge of darkness and safari with the drum solo, also taken much father back than other acts, with bad sound. There appears to be crafty manipulation going on.

    Playing outdoors seems to have more disadvantages than playing in an amphitheater with better acoustics and better light show and then you have the adverse weather conditions that mar the set and visuals.

    I was there and loved the show even though an inebriated man was yelling "fuck you" to GVF until a man tackled him and he was escorted away by his friends. I am sure they sound similar to many bands that they grew up listening to. Time will only tell if they are a flash in the pan. Just enjoy, or go listen to something else.

    Man, they should can the freakin' click tracks. Every time they play Safari Song, it's too slow, and since they're obviously on a click track, it never recovers and becomes the song we know and love. I guess the other option would be to set the click to the right tempo; apparently no-one's figured this out yet...click tracks should all be put into a pit and burned anyway, as they're from hell...

    Sebastian Watson "you can't even begin to compare them to Led Zeppelin" almost sounds like a comparison, the "but" makes it a contradiction of them being a solid band. It's like an oxymoron; it sounded like his way of saying "they ain't shit against Zeppelin" while simultaneously telling everyone else "you shouldn't compare these bands"

    Is there a worse front man in the history of rock-n-roll? And no, the whole, "hey, if it's good it's good" theory isn't a sufficient argument in this case. Sure, my opinion is subjective, but art is about creating, which shouldn't be subjective. There's nothing creative about them and they're mediocre musicians at best. You ever see a painter try to duplicate Leonardo da Vinci's, Mona Lisa? I'll answer that. No, you haven't! There's a reason for that: any attempts to duplicate it would be a lesser version of the original piece. I heard someone say, "these guys are a breath of fresh air." Perhaps, you need a breath of fresh air to clear your lungs of the paint you've been huffing.

    the music industry has been taken over by pop and really REALLY bad rap. these guys are catching the ear of thousands of new kids and showing them how fucking awesome old school rock is. these new kids wont going to go back and listen to old records of zeppelin and other bands. they are focused on strictly modern music. these guys are hitting everything everywhere they go because even if they are a spitting image of Led Zeppelin they are reviving rock n roll. Which id take any day of the week.
