Since his rise in stature I don't doubt he took a lot form that documentary but prior to that, knowing he comes from the hood/ends, it is highly likely that he's only become educated about this due to the work he done as a youth worker and also a entertainer. if he's seen working class like you mention.. his comment regarding some kids in Leeds is void.

Love the podcast and what it sets out to do. Listening to Poet's ignorance is frustrating but it's important to have that balance in the debate. Going off the comments, i'm glad that most people seem to see through what he's saying and are able to listen and reason better than he can. If there were more people like Chuckie and less people like Poet, we would actually have a chance of making the kind of change that everyone agrees is needed.

"They aren't tying to improve the lives for the poor people inside the building" - Having read more, I see the local council rejected a fire resistant cladding plan in 2013. This is because they needed to replace the whole heating system of the tower which would cost £9.7m, and the contractor offered refurbishing of cladding, but would have cost £11.3m. The council could only afford one of these things and choose replacing the heating. So the choice is understandable, what are the chances of the cladding catching fire and what are the chances it'll be a cold winter. Without the heating there would be guaranteed issues every winter, which would have gained negative press as well. So the council were trying to improve the lives of the residents. I thinks its important to appreciate the dilemma the council was in. The cladding that was used on Grenfeld passed fire safety tests when constructed, but later failed. Perhaps the council wanted to add heating first then replace the cladding next year. They have a budget and can't do everything at once. It would be sensible to learn from this and change building regs in the future to prevent this from happening.

Poet complains about middle and upper class individuals moving into the ends and gentrifying it up raising the price for the working class there. He doesn't realise that when he moves to Ethiopia he'll be extremely upper class and will again be gentrifying that country. The best way for communities to get together is if we own our own property, our own land that way we can grow to love our ends and stop anyone from moving in and changing it up. Honestly he makes good points now and again but he makes it about himself every time and has a one way outlook with no room to change. RIP Grenfell

A couple things Morgan said were key when you look at all that took place. 1.* They see us as a burden. 2.* Grenfell was blocking the nice buildings. 3. Grenfell burned down and once they are legally free to demolish it they will. 4. Many people died and the council/government did nothing to help the survivors. I remember hearing from one bruddah, who explained it on the news soon after it happened, that they had a regeneration plan for Grenfell and wanted to knock it down anyway to rehouse people elsewhere then rebuild another newer nice block for private housing. I'm not gonna jump to any conclusions about what I don't know, but the coincidences aren't looking too random when you look at the whole situation. If the government got cash for big ben like clockwork, they can afford to run it over to the council to rehouse the families or get a new safe block built asap for them to go back to when it's done.

I don't know why there are so many people who identify with east Africa from the Caribbean. East Africa has had a long and amazing history but the truth is that man who are from the Caribbean and America are from West Africa. They should be prideful of the West African culture and history. Furthermore, physically speaking East African's share no physical appearances with people from the Caribbean

one issue they seemed to have not discussed at all is the issue of asbestos, and the long term health affects to people in the area especially kids. You have a building that most likely has some form of asbestos in it, based on the asbestos consultants currently on site, burning in a densely populated area and nothing was said to any of the schools in the area. The kids, at the very least, should have been indoors. Then there is also the burning 'galvo'....mesothelioma....

The reason they are building so quick is not due to a lack of care. Its due to prefabrication techniques. This is where they build sections of it it factories and ship it to the sight. They then put it together like Ikea furniture. If anything this is safer and quicker than traditional building techniques. The process overall is much longer as the modules are still carefully built off site. We just don't see that part.

Chuckie had a valid point at the end of this podcast. Poet can keep saying he’s wants to leave to go back to Africa to get away from it. However the political system in many countries in Africa is so corrupt that tragedy’s such as Grenfell happen on a daily and you won’t catch the government doing nothing about it, the classist mentality is at an all time high over there aswell as over here the government does not care about lower class people in African countries it’s all about money and corruption, take it from someone who’s lived them places there and come to England. (Sometimes better the devil you know)

They didn't blame the whole tower on the one man with a fridge. They said that was the cause. They never blamed the death of everyone on him. It is a fact the mans fridge started the fire, but not his fault. They also stated that the cladding and design of the building intensified the fire. So the council did admit that the design of the building was also to blame

U can’t play the race card in a majority Black Country. Then I think he’ll move back realise how amazing this country is and how many opportunities there are for young people for unprivileged backgrounds such as the Sutton Trust and so on. There are even special groups designated for black youths helping them get into uni and stuff. Poet needs to chill with his mad statements

I agree that local and central government are not looking after the boroughs, this is across the whole country. comparing England with the other countries I've lived in, it has nothing on them. The roads in England aren't maintained, the quality of shops (most high streets only having betting, estate agents, charity shop and chair stores), the streets are dirty. Granted we have just been through a recession, as is the nature of our economic system, so we cannot expect the highest quality of a government who's budget is tight enough as it is. I suppose you can look at this in 3 ways. Blame government for not doing anything about it, blame the people for not looking after it, or a mixture of both. The fact that government isn't putting money into the area because they feel like it'll be wasted due to vandalism etc. As I keep saying "Nothing can be fixed in one move in politics. It’s steps, very often indirect steps, that resolve the issues". So perhaps for this issue of improving the atmosphere of the areas, the community can come together and help to give confidence to investors and government to invest in the area without fear of there money being wasted due to vandals or miss use. This could be community litter picking, graffiti cleaning, social gatherings, concerts, markets.

We've been so desensitised, the Grenfell tower disasters/debacle is in my opinion close to the 9/11 situation. But it's just been swept under the carpet and forgotten so quickly. These were people for fuck sake 😒

you seem to forget that the majority of ppl who live in estate dont care for their own estate and leave it to shit, this misconception that the government owes you anything than MORE is bollocks....get your head out the clouds.

"Rectifying a mistake that the government has made" - I totally agree that the British public are truly amazing in tragedy, coming together and helping out. But it is important to remember that the cladding and design of Grenfeld was only realised to have been a mistake after construction and the disaster. This can be seen by the number of other buildings designed and construction in a similar fashion. To say it was the governments fault is inaccurate. It is unfair for the council to check every part of construction of the houses. It is faired to question the company who was contracted to build and developed Grenfeld. It would have been their responsibility to ensure it was constructed safely. I am not aware of the contractor, so perhaps, if blame were to be put in part on the local council, perhaps they should have chosen the contractor in a wiser fashion.

"its collateral damage to their agenda" - I am by no means attempting to suggest that this event was not a tragedy. it agree 100% with what your all saying about the sadness of lives lost or the emotionally scaring aspect of it. But to suggest that government doesn't care is not true. Every politician views this as a tragedy and is a devastating event. But this is not a central government issue, and thats the reality. They have debates about the issue in PM question time, and undoubtedly there will be reforms to the building regs after the full investigation. The issue of Grenfeld specifically will be an issue for Kensington Council as it happened in that borough. Central government will become in the larger picture, as mention above about building reg reforms etc. As I said in a previous comment. "Nothing can be fixed in one move in politics. It’s steps, very often indirect steps, that resolve the issues". It is these potential reforms that will prevent another tragedy, like this, from happening again.

If poet grew up in real poverty (India, Pakistani, Somalia, Ethiopia , etc third world countries) then you will never say "fuck uk, fuck london" . I've grown up in the same london as him and the same estate but I know we are blessed. Because the grenfell is a class issue which happens all over the world lets not act stupid. And what's ironic is poet shouts im going back to africa and when if he does he falls into the upper class . Dare him go back as the poorest 30% of Africa 😂😂😂 dare him

Plus, why does he "need" to go and live among the "poorest" in Africa? Can you even name 10 countries in each of the five regions of Africa? Can you name major ethnic groups? Can you pinpoint those communities that are the "poorest"? Without google of course... Speaking on what you haven't experienced is always difficult hey... People chatting air everywhere.

hannah60000 100%% which is why I said I dare him to live in the poorest 30% of Africa. There is alot of wealth in all those counties but also poverty just like the UK. Class division is universal sadly

hannah60000 well I'm from Somalia, born there during the civil war and was lucky enough to be raise in London . I was raised on benefits, I was raised in estate just like a lot of people. But when going back to visit Somali and Ethiopia to see family I saw poverty but also saw wealth. But what I know is that even while "poor" in the UK I was given education and a lot of oppertunities though community programmes. I got to see the world though school trips (Paris and Germany) stuff I sadly know I wouldn't have got in Somalia or Ethiopia. My point is no country is perfect and the world is very set up to feed the rich (it's disgusting) but to act like he is not blessed is an insult to all those that would die to have been even the childhood and life he was given.

There was also the question of the immigration status of some of the residents. Kensington council ain’t going to house an illegal immigrant are they. It takes time for these issue to be resolved, that’s what people don’t understand. Nothing can be fixed in one move in politics. It’s steps, very often indirect steps, that resolve the issues
