They still gayed up Alan Scott. Like that Disney woman who's on tape saying she shoved as much gay into everything she could. Wouldn't be a problem in an otherwise good story, but gayifing a non-gay character in the world of woke, just kills it, like a certain rectal torturing of superman thing. Just throws you out of the story, unless you don't know the characters, or unless you're a shipper.

Sure, because it was a comic, they wanted to make it flagrant how he purposefully blinded and deluded himself. But usually, it isn't cause by a lack observation skills or common sense. Most of the time, everything was seen by the victim but by exploiting the TRUST that is implicitly attached to a situation; it causes the victim to override their own common sense and observations. Have you ever heard the expression: I knew there was something wrong but I just couldn't put my finger on it? Examples: - Cheating : The partner notices all the signs, coming back later than usual, distancing in the house, weird excuses to go out. Cheater gets caught, in whatever way, all those little pieces that the partner caught on but CHOSE to ignore finally fall into place. - Scammer: Your best bud of all best bud comes to you, shows you this great deal he wants you to put money on, just like he did and the returns will be great. There's this little doubt in the back of your mind during the whole thing but he's your bestest bud, known since kindergarten. So you do, times passes and then one day, poof he's gone. Then it hits, how he discouraged you to get things checked into, the sly deflections, the lack of papers.

People call it being blind or blindsided but scientifically speaking is it the release of dopamine (and adrenaline in the case of cheaters) dulls the senses and focus, gives you a euphoric sensation, and like most drugs, people will chase it. It is also why lots of people cheat, cause the longer a relationship goes, the less dopamine is released.

I think everyone checked out when alan went down to the docks to have anonomous gay sex. No, it think it was when the mental institution let a transgender person have a wig and makeup and that transgender person didn't even bother to shave his beard and mustache. And that that same mental institution just so happened to have a gay orderly that runs off to hook up with Alan Scott. Or maybe when the main villian and embodyment of homophobia was the cross dressing homesexual, J Edgar Hoover. This issue doesn't fix anything from the previous issues and overall this comic will go down as an embodyment of cringe. Even if that one pannel is actually pretty cool.

If the Crimson Flame is attached to the Red Lantern Corps in a similar way to the Star Hart to the Green Lanterns, then that panel showing Allen's RAGE as its power makes nothing but since, as the Red rings are powered by Anger. Right then Allen is showing he might be more like Guy then he is like Hal, at lest in that moment. Still, this deep into the run and this is probably too little to late. If the issues that fallow are at this level I hope I'm wrong, but the first three did so poorly that its a deep hole to dig out of.

@@zionleach3001 The problem is that the audience they're catering to is too small to actually matter. If a gay person reads comics then the presence or absence of a gay character won't matter to them, and if a gay person doesn't read comics then the presence or absence of a gay character isn't going to get them to pick them up. That shit expensive, yo! Meanwhile the vast majority of men, i.e. heterosexuals, like pictures of pretty girls in spray-on costumes. They like imagining being a hero, because heroic fiction is something that caters to men's tastes. They don't really have any interest in reading about "te gheys" unless the story is really really good. Even then, there are plenty of good stories that cater to their own tastes. It is possible to write for heterosexual men, while including some material that caters to the subsection, but you cannot build an industry around catering to that tiny minority. It is fascinating watching your review of this series, and finally I can vicariously feel excited for it. The first three volumes had promise and some sparks of inspiration, but never really seemed to commit to satisfying plots long enough to make them worthwhile. THIS is worthwhile. Even if it is just for this one volume, this Green Lantern seems interesting and fun, even if it relies on a trusting, dare-I-say idiot ball protagonist. I don't even mean that as a knock against it either! It's okay to have good role models make mistakes cause they trust other people. That's the whole real world issue with Trust; it makes you vulnerable. But a HERO should still want to, especially when young. I think it's a good foundation for a fantastic emotional conflict. And let's be real, justifiably using two lanterns at once just sounds like a dope idea that I'd love to see put to ink. Looking forward to the next one. Let's hope the streak continues.

I have been saying this for years, if you want to tell a story about gay characters, tell a story about gay characters, nobody will care either way as long as the story is good. I'd say the same about trans characters, or any other kind of character you want to tell a story about. You can start with the character and write a story for them or you can write a story and then add the types of characters you need for it, as long as the story is good, nobody will care if they are white, black, gay, straight, bi, any other skin color, any other sexuality, or any other religion. But it's like for years writers and artists have been so focused on crushing up the identity politics and then forcing them down people's throats like ground glass, so focused on hurting the people they don't like by taking away the things they enjoy, that they have been mentally and physically unable to write good stories, unable to draw exceptional art. In reality, if they really stood for the things they claim to stand for, they should have done this from the start. If they had written Iceman like this instead of making him an unlikable tool and then going "You're just mad he's gay now!" everybody would be happy.

What does turn us off, is that when a character is canonically something and then for shits and giggles they are rebooted to be something they never were. They’re already established gay heroes and James Gunn is planning to introduce them in the Authority film. So why not bring some spotlight to those characters. It’s really annoying that people like Tim Sheridan claim to want diversity in comics but continue to ignore the already established gay characters. But that’s how we can get comics back on track. Call these people out with OUR knowledge of comics, by calling out their hypocrisy for continuing to ignore the already existing gay heroes in comics.

I agree with you JSG; if this had been the way the whole thing had been written, the first three wouldn't have been flops. I mean you could've started the comic out with that awesome looking drawing where Alan was about to own or actually owning the Crimson Flame - then backtrack into those three issues to provide context for the argument, and then rejoin the scene wherein now the audience would know what the hell was going on in the first place and all the backstory surrounding it... and that might have gone better as well. At least this time lessons were learned. Now it's up to Sheridan and his team how far they'll take it.

I'm glad JSG finally got a good issue out of this run. I will say that what JSG pointed out around 6:40 into the video (about how Sheridan finally wrote a good issue after three bad ones) might sadly be a case of the good, current issue being the exception and the first three bad issues being the rule--not a case of "I can write good issues whenever I want, but I kind of conserved my creative energy on the first few issues before I got serious." For JSG and Lantern fans I hope that is not the case, but Sheridan just being a bad writer who bats .250 when it comes to producing good books is the simplest and most logical explanation.

This is what I try to tell people. It's like you said: write a good story, and the rest will take care of itself. I don't care that a character is gay or whatever, as long as it's not there JUST for stupid personal politics. Like Captain Jack Sparrow from Doctor Who, was such a good character (and gay af) he got his own spinoff. Make your characters whatever sexuality you want, but don't shoehorn them in without any context. Sure, this Red Lantern is a tad conveluted, but they TRIED.

This is either going to make people cheer with glee or shake their heads in sadness. Either way, bring on the self-improving criticism. If I were to do something like this, it would involve two Trans Women. With one being a hero who has accepted the fact that there are people who will never see her as a woman or even a worthwhile human being but still wants to help everyone. And another who, after stewing for so long in her own hatred, becomes a villain going after anti-LGBTQ people. The latter tries to bring the former over to the dark side by showing her various transphobic online posts from all over the world. She asks "Look at what these assholes think of us! How could you *NOT* be angry at this??!!". At first, the former is bothered by the posts. But she takes a deep breath and simply responds with "Being angry is good for getting high blood pressure, not solving life's problems". The VTW, unable to persuade the HTW to her homicidal side, would become angrier and angrier; to the point of seeing the HTW as a "traitor to her own people". This would result in an epic bloody brawl between the two. With both trying to get the other to see their side amongst the destruction.

i like how they properly made his sexuality mean something, as they kept bringing it up without a payoff like this it would have just been hollow pandering. still the series dosnt sound that good as apart the ending when he consumes the power it sounds a lot like the literal basic story board of any hero with little to no fleshing. the art style is great though.

Yo, this is a good story. It’s an example of being able to do that without shoving other things down your throat is being more important than the story itself; I still don’t like this, though it would’ve been great for original characters, but these are established characters, at least Alan Scott is he had kids he had a life that was a whole background that existed long before this and they just switched it up just for the E.S.G. nonsense still so I still gotta give it a pass.

Color me shocked it was actually good if not great. See, this is how you should write diverse characters. X character just so happens to be such and such but that isn't their whole identity rather a part of it, perhaps an important part but still a part rather than their entire identity. Too bad the earlier issues were so poorly plotted.

Wait you want to tell me that main plot of GREEN LANTERN is love between two unstable gays that were to afraid to comeout of their closets, and all these rings is just magic a method to run away from reality of them being gays?/mindblown I never seen more passionate gay loving story, do a movie about it asap, throw in more of that sweet plot. FFs, i miss old based times with edge and sexy women, to fight evil and tell good story, but now only stories about male prostitutes in GL comics.

By ignore, do you mean not shove it down your throat every constant second? If so, I can agree, I'm not trying to see it everytime cause it ain't my cup of tea. I didn't like DC retconning Silver Age GL to add a whole spectrum of lanterns and I don't like this reinvention of a "Red Flame" that has never been part of Alan Scott's continuity. The retconning in the past is nothing compared to the crap DC in general and Tim Sheridan in particular are doling out.
