It's funny how these animated films only have a budget of $3-4 million and one group of writers write 3-4 of them a year, but they end up being way better than a live action film that cost $200 million and took 3 years to make. And instead of being rewarded for their competence and success, the animated team are punished when the live action movie fails. Like how the failure of the live action Green Lantern movie led to the cancellation of the GL animated show and other GL animated movies being shelved.

Green lantern is one of the weirdest characters in cómics for me. He started as a Magic Sentinel, then he became a space cop, and here we are now, with the big lantern lore being expanded every minute.

Hal was in the military. He trained as a pilot. It makes sense that he would be able to succeed fairly easily. He's shown to simplify things so he can more easily understand them. It doesn't matter if he's right. His strength comes from believing he's right.

I’ve had fun with some stories, but the Black Lanterns, followed by all the others, was trope laden, and it was obvious that someone would eventually wear all the rings/combine the power/etc. John either builds a great world, with not enough character work, or he focuses too much on a few characters, without the world building at the same level. His decisions with the TV shows, series and movies have been terrible. He needs to be taken away from any of the live action universe going forward.

when hall stuck his hand in the battery he was fed information with much of it possibly being information on how to use the ring, rules of engagement, how to navigate space and more.

I love the animated series and movies. First Flight was good and allowed to Hal to really see how they operate and the different cultures he meets. Emerald Knight was awesome to see the Corps be expanded upon and how the power of Will affects everyone. Laira was my favorite story. Jessica Cruz being one of co main characters of the other movie showing her she needs to step up despite her fear. I really love the Green Lantern story and hopefully we see WB follows suit.

Jessica Cruz’s story was ruined by the dumb, far too tropey, amnesia story, with the Legend of Superheroes guy. Then the Fatal Five being able to so easily beat the League, was really lame, as them needing a teenaged Superman, to help keep the Legion together, being canon for decades.

I love the diversity of the Corps. Tomar Re, Kilowog, Galius Zed, Ch'p, Isamot Kol, Salaak, Arkkis Chummuk, Abin Sur. I just think they're all so damn cool and the variety of character designs all in the same uniform is so badass to me

Kyle Raynor’s story needs more exposure. He made an incredible Lantern. If someone could do for GL what oithers have for established Sci-Fi worlds and stories, we’d have something great.

@@DavidMartinez-ce3lp He was gonna be used for the TV show as the founding members of JL but was replaced by John Stewart to fill a Diversity Quota and his origin story was used as John Stewart's origin for Beware my Power. It seems John Stewart will always take his spot light.

Never found John Stewart that interesting, and I don't really like swapping out characters for a diversity quota. Did the same thing with Cyborg, but I'd much rather see Cyborg with the Teen Titans, than the Justice League.

I really hope you cover the CG animated series from 2012. While it only has 1 season, it was such a great and effective piece of storytelling that it warrants discussion. Also helps that it get somewhat of a resolution to its biggest cliffhanger paid off in Young Justice Season 4.

That kind of came out of nowhere in Young Justice. One of the reasons I haven't liked the new seasons is because it feels so scattered. Would have rather had a new season of GLTAS, or a continuation in the form of a comic adaptation.

@@DavidMartinez-ce3lp It feels like they're building a universe similar to the DCAU, which is great, but keeping it all in one series gives it that disjointed feeling, since you're bouncing around different groups and arcs without enough focus on each. I hope they can greenlight some spinoff series or movies to help balance that out.

These are some of my favorite movies. These and Green Lantern the Animated Series really encapsulate what makes GL such a great character and mythology

I loved Green Lantern: First Flight. Hal Jordan became my favorite Green Lantern after watching it.

Emerald Knights is what made me love Green Lantern as a concept. It came as a digital download with the DVD of the 2011 movie, and I watched Knights a lot more

I think the best interpretation of Green Lantern BY FAR is the Green Lantern animated series

I'm gonna say I think "First Flight" is the best way to introduce someone to Green Lantern. True it doesn't have as much weight or meaning as other entries, but it shows the world and the characters and it is an immensely fun film to watch.

Green Lantern is one of my favourite DC heroes and these amazing animated films like First Flight aand Emerald Knights introduced me to the ever expanding, incredibly fascinating and creative stories of thee Green Lantern comics. They are truly phenomenal stories with compelling, interesting characters and gripping stories, Geoff John's GL run is still one of my favourite comic-book runs in general. First Flight is like Training Day in space and an epic sci fi story and a glimpse at how amazing the DC Intergalactic universe is as well as the GL stories. Victor Garber's Sinestro is by far the best performance and truly and fantastic portrayal of how multi facetted Sinestro is as a character/villain.

Green lantern emerald knights it’s such a great anthology movie.

I miss DC cartoons having this quality of art and frame rate. I skip so many of them if for no other reason that it seems like they're animating on twelves - looking at you, Gotham by Gaslight. Oh! And GOOD CASTING. Hearing the Injustice movie makes my heart weep.

hal jordan gets so much shit from people, not only by those who only saw that horrible movie, but people who read the comics also seem to hate him a lot and call him boring. it made me so, so sad when they made the justice league movie in 2017 and included all characters from the new 52 JL storyline *except* for hal. it's not justice league without green lantern. i still have hope we'll see hal, john, and kyle in the dceu movies someday, since alan scott and guy gardner are going to be on the hbo max show.

I never really noticed this until this video and I am so glad that you decided to include a track list of all the music included in your videos. So many commentary/pop culture critique videos never bothered to tell their viewers the songs/music they used. And I thoroughly appreciate the gesture.

It’s funny how back in the late 2000s-early 2010s where Green Lantern was so popular that it overshadowed Batman and Superman.

I love green lantern emerald knights, besides that the green lantern animated series is the best. Besides that, we havent gotten great GL animated content.

I wasn't introduced the green lantern until the 90s justice league series where John was the green lantern of those stories, so for me, my familiarity with any green lantern story will always look to John Steward as my green lantern.

First flight and Emerald knights are weird because they have very similar looking animation, and were released around the same time, but have Hal as a newbie just joining the corps in both of them. A very big mistake in my opinion.

That always weirded me out too. So I looked into it. As it turns out they are desperate timelines, but the studio just used the animation and characters designs because they had already payed the animators.

I really want to like it, but the choices are just so bizarre. Like they can't seem to decide if Hal's problem is that he's possessed or that he's corrupted by an ideal of the ends justifying the means. Which John & Ollie basically agree with in the end anyway. And Parallax's goal was to end a war...that he was prolonging. And Hawkgirl's arc is clearly about overcoming xenophobia, but she ends with all but saying "Adam Strange is a credit to his race." If it was just one or two things, I could look the other way, but there's so much. Also, speaking of Hawkgirl, & the old cartoon, she's just so much more layered there, even in her first appearance. Yeah, she's a hardass, a bit overly aggressive, but you also get the sense that she's snarky & has a sense of fun. So, I couldn’t help but be disappointed that this version doesn't really have anything going for her but being a Proud Warrior Race Gal. She's cool in a fight scene, but bizarrely, is mostly absent from the climax.

The Animation is out of this world! Pun not intended lol. Gives One Piece vibes. Just wish they gave more depth to the kinda mid stories though and didn’t tarnish Hal at the end.

Green Lantern is essentially Lord of the Rings in space, I know Star Wars is a more appropriate comparison. But, it always felt closer to LOTR. LOTR trilogy seemlessly blends spectacle with intimacy. Green Lantern needs to do that, you have all of space, this grandeur, this lore combined with a story of a brave, brave man. People coming together to fight fear, both literally and metaphorically.

I got to say about the whole training for first flight. You are on the spot, if they would have said that he had the usual green lanternt training program (usually last about a month or more + regular patrol and test or by proving your worth in battle) it would have made way more sense. But the movie made it look like he just instantly master the ring ability.

Beware my Power was really odd to me, really good, it's one of the assembly piece towards the "DC animated universe v2.0" Hal being Evil, and dead and the entire Corp being decimated all the Guardians fucking merked. I mean this would be a Climax to a story arc with a bitter sweet but optimistic end, nope This is how it all gonna start 😂 Plus i really liked how Hal was portrayed as this hero of heroes, the legend, the myth, the man. Ye, unlike Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman and the rest of their Lore, Hal’s lore is the most complex cuz besides annoying time travel. YOU HAVE ENTIRE OTHER CORPS’ to introduce. Will, Fear, Love, Rage, Violet, Avarice which is amazing btw #Larfleeze! A series with at least 8 seasons would be perfect, and I hate long seasoned series but for Hal and his GLs and corps’ ya gotta have at least 8 for accuracy and introduction of all. With Superman, ya got a Candor and Krypton here, an evil villain with a grudge there. Batman, a villain here, a new trashy vigilante that fill in the same mantle or role or is just a swap of different looks and personalities already established with one Like Dick and Tim there and maybe some in between. Wonder Woman, nobody but the minority of DC truly care, she’s just hot but isn’t hotter and better than Yara flor who’s the best. You get my point…

7:00, Liara’s father and his supposed quest to restore honor to himself and his people and avenge their initial defeat at the hands of former enemies is shown to be hiding his insecurity over not being able to protect his people without help and being ignored by the Lantern ring that chose his daughter. This insecurity is what motivated his unrealistic ambitions of conquering even the Guardians and what the ring ignored him on the battlefield and wouldn’t work for him even when he thought beating his daughter would somehow earn it’s allegiance. Liara being willing to confront her family in order to spare her people from being forced to become a military state bent on conquest is the very worthiness the ring saw in her and the honorable qualities her father lacks. It’s a subtle but interesting way to portray the classic Green Lantern struggle between fear and will by focusing on fear in the form of anxieties over one’s self-image and how that fear can lead an individual to become corrupt and potentially corrupt their environment in the process. Hell, they even use the color yellow in much of the area and costumes to further plant the idea of fear being the source of corrupt on the planet only to be replaced by green, the color of will and courage.

Maybe Hal was refering to the taser and having a strong moral

I feel like the live action film could've taken elements from these films. For instance, keep a single focused villain for your introductory movie. They had the third corner of the love triangle and the cosmic horror to deal with, along with trying to set up Sinestro's descent for the nonexistent sequel. Stick with one and lean into it. I feel like First Flight made the best choice in this instance. If they wanted to have Sinestro so badly, then just make him the villain and grow from there. Second, find your protagonist's flaw and make him confront it. From the sound of it, that's what Beware My Power got right. Seeing how they went with Ryan Reynolds, who was giving it his all, how about humility? Hal learns what Sinestro's up to, realizes he can't stop him himself, and reports him to the Lantern Corp. Mass beatdown on the presumed greatest among them ensues. Third, take a bit from Emerald Knights to build up select members from the Corp, and it develops a great sense of joining something greater than yourself, and the test of will to police even those you admire. Turning them all into glorified cameos did nothing for the fans or those entering the lore blind.

Tbf to the 2012 GL movie: focusing on the love triangle was a thing that was done a lot in the Silver Age GL comics. While it’s not where I would prefer a Lantern story to go, it has merit being what it is
