They would need to have creative thoughts to be able to create original and new characters. Since they don't they can't. Read George Orwell's 1984. Winston Smith lives in a world that had no past, since the past is constantly being destroyed. And the key world here is CONSTANTLY to insert "The Party's" mandates. Winston lives in a world that has no past and no future. Only a horrible present that never ends.

The most hilarious thing to me is the idea of The Spectre, the *embodiment of God's Wrath on Earth* , digging through police files like The Question when he could just sense where these murders are being committed, teleport himself and Alan Scott to the scene of the crime, and kill the culprit. That'd be like Zeus following a paper trail and bribing some cops to shoot someone he didn't like instead of blasting them to ash with a thunderbolt.

Especially since it retcons his relationships into "I was super gay but then I had two children with my wife but then I decided to be gay again". If he wasn't attracted to her, then why would he be so intimate with her as to conceive Jade and Obsidian? I mean, they COULD just say that he's bisexual and only pair him up with men from now on like they did Tim Drake and Jon Kent, but I guess THEN people would grow wise to their antics (plus it would diminish the whole "ZOMG- ALAN SCOTT IS GAY!" retcon that they're so proud of). Better to just treat Jade and Obsidian with the same reverence as Mopee.

This is why I can’t stand “writers”, “actors”/activist hired to “champion marginalized groups” by writing us as mere cliche stereotypes. There’s a films called “Our Son” about a married couple going through a divorce and fighting for parental rights for their son. Nothing new, except the couple is gay. The story itself felt new in the genre of gay films, unfortunately there’s parts of the film and story that goes into those same stereotypes. The gay couple isn’t monogamous, one of them hooks up with someone at a gay bar (after a heartfelt moment which steals all the emotions away from the scene) and of course all of their gay male friends have daddy issues. When it gets away from that, the film is actually pretty good. Though Billy Porter and Luke Evans have very little chemistry. But the story still works. The problem with mainstream media is that they don’t realize, THEYRE true racist and bigots. Because they just use the same troupes over and over again and declare anyone who doesn’t like their cliche trash is a racist. Like the bomb “Bros”

Seems to me Sheridan didn't consider that people like Hoover would be keeping tabs, so the MC can't consider it because the writer wants to reference noted historical figures but didn't understand their motus opporendi. Hoover was incredibly paranoid, and wouldn't have let the matter drop. I agree entirely, so that is a continuity error that should have been avoidable. It's a writing issue. The scene with the Flash just makes me think Sheridan wanted to set up a fight, and had no clue how to make one happen justifiably. There's no reason for Scott to get defensive if he asked a friend to help him here. Regardless of the attitudes in the 40's about being anything other than straight. The flash wouldn't have been one of those types, as a powered individual (the world has NEVER been kind to those that are different - which is a seminal issue with the X-Men) so the whole thing is pointless, and shows lacking skill in creative writing. If he doesn't understand what he should be writing, nevermind how to actually write it, I do wonder how he got the job. Similarity in politics, and ass-kissing can only get you so far.

Funny enougth Hoover has been suggested to be gay and a transvestite by multiple Historians (seriously its a reoccuring joke in red dwarf) I half exspect it to be a "twist" at the end. Also Sheridan missed huge trick, the Specture in stories set before the JSA dispanding is written more in line with his golden age interpretation were he's got a strange all knowing stand offish air to him but is still very much human, the aggressive murder trigger happy version was a product of the character's revival. If he was smart instead of showing Specture as a corpse like and demonic figure, he'd lean into the more human and heroic version to build on his character and demonstrate how much a near century of superheroics has taken a toll on him and just how far he'd fallen.

It’s no wonder Tim Sheridan never mentioned the story during his announcement trailer - his story is as stale as watching bread turn moldy within the next few days, and no one in his/her right mind would spend their money reading this.

Ostander's run on spectre was one of the best in DC history and that specific chapetr is great. one of the best exmples of character growth and a writer putting his political opinion in a natural and non-grating way (and without breaking the character for story's sake)

Showing it's always been possible if done correctly. These modern types are quick to contradict themselves by saying 'well politics was always there' as well as 'inserting gay or other issues is not political'. Iger certainly said that. If they won't even accept they're inserting a political stance yet not telling a story nor developing characters beyond their personality is just their sexuality, how can they fix it? You can't fix what you won't acknowledge is broken.

The original Green Lantern’s powers weren’t strictly defined by his willpower like they were with Hal- his ring was magical in nature, and had nothing to do with the technological rings of Oa and the Guardians. Now, having said that, magic is usually intrinsically tied to one’s willpower in many depictions, so an argument could be made that, yes, saying Alan’s ring is based on willpower is *_technically_* correct.

I was under the impression that comic canon accurate Alan Scott's Green Lantern powers came from magic and had nothing to do with the Oa Guardians or the Lantern Core or the power of will. At least that's the way I remember from my comics I've collected.

I always thought "willpower" was a Silver Age addition, along with the Corps. The Original Recipe was magic, and therefore didn't have to make sense (has the writer mentioned the weakness to wood yet? I doubt he'd have the sense of humor...). As a gay guy, I find the wallowing in our collective victimhood offensive, but I've mentioned that before here. So, unlike the writer, I'll let it go.

Why are the companies who are losing money hand over fist by allowing this still allowing it? Are they trying to make these companies worthless with the intention of auctioning off the IPs which can be worth money if in the right hands? Coz I can't come up with anything else. Other than sheer incompetence by the head of these companies (Marvel/DC) and in turn their parent companies for not kicking their arses. None of it makes any sense.

Okay, "The docks" as a pickup spot for gay men gets my attention. "The docks" did not become a hookup spot for gay men until the 1970s, when they were abandoned because all the shipping was going to the container port in Elizabeth NJ. The southern tip of Manhattan, formerly a shipping hub, collapsed economically. That's why the WTC was built there. For awhile "the docks" were popular spot to meet other men for illict sex, sure, in the SEVENTIES, and only in New York. If you went down there during the era in which this series is set, you would find, you know, a bunch of people unloading ships.

A stand up dude who notoriously is all about a person's character rather then color of skin, sexuality, or religion... And they try to get The Spectre, the living incarnation of God's Wraith, or cannonically has hated gays, and is effectively only bound by a corpse... to comfort... and support... a weakened green lantern who has yet to do actual super heroine. ...What the fuck is going on here?

I don’t like the comic and openly think Alan was better as a homophobe who wanted to love his kids regardless. But between the 3 options c was the only one that doesn’t get his body broken and his mind violated.

This encapsulates the core problem with all woke entertainment. It's about whining and feeling bad about your problems instead of overcoming them. It's a very female way of thinking about things. You don't have to do anything to fix your circumstances or grow, you just need to make yourself feel better by expressing your emotions.

Is this just a modern comics problem with men who have determination and will? You can't even have your gay hero possess these traits? You have to make him an emotionally feminine gay stereotype instead of a badass who is also gay? So the book, like the rest of mainstream comics, can't stomach anything that looks like "toxic masculinity", even being shown by your gay hero?

This sounds comically terrible though. These new writers don't understand good and bad and right and wrong, they can't write superhero stories without that knowledge
