Greek Lizard Camouflage Effectiveness

Ойын-сауық

In this video we look at the effectiveness of the Greek / Hellenic lizard Camouflage pattern, in a heavily vegetated woodland environment during the summer time in north Texas. This video will consist of numerous scenes where each will begin with a concealed stationary position (both with & without the use of vegetation), followed by a movement phase out of the initial position. The purpose of the video is to give the viewer a chance to see the individual camouflage pattern and how it looks and blends into this environment. There will be varying degrees of how much of the uniform will be exposed to the viewer, some scenes will only expose little more than perhaps my head, while other scenes will have virtually no vegetation covering.
Some references about the pattern can be found at:

During my service in the Greek Army,me and two other soldiers decide to "skip" the training...and we were sitting to the tall grass behind the barracks drinking beers....Suddenly we saw the commander of the camp coming....So we "hit the dirt" and stayed still.... He pass next to us in 3 meters and walked away... thanks Greek Lizard....you saved my ass...

Hey man.. great video, you are reminding of myself in the Greek Army as you are wearing the Greek camo and carry the G3A4 rifle . Although i did not really liked the lizzard patern this camo was suitable for Greek mainland but for the islands terrain especially in the summer was not.It should have lighter colors and maybe the Greek Cypriot National Guard camo is more suitable.

i think this camo is tested in different environment from that it supposed to be... greek mountens are a bit more darker with dark green. The conclusion still is that greek camo works better inside of a bush and in the shadow. Keep up the good work!!

The Greek Lizard is quite effective HOWEVER your cover will get you killed in a heartbeat. You need a veil to break the outline and to kill the reflection of the top and brim. In the tall grass around the 4 minute mark the camo did a poor job at cover. You needed to supplement with some of the natural vegetation. Found you right off at the three minute mark. All in all very effective cover for heavy vegetation. Also very good, you carry the H&K G3 as does the Greek military for this demo. It is too bad that only a few of the Greek ground pounders get a chance to train for this environment. I keep telling them they should train with the Corp if they want to be the best. This video was a good lesson in C&C regarding how the shape of your head and the straight line of your weapon can give you away. There was a little more blobbing once or twice than I would have thought (I'd always blamed too much black and dark brown for that!). In late spring/early summer an outstanding camo pattern. Great stuff!!!

Very well put together video Brent, with the variation of exposure levels and settings all appreciated. Nice touch with the G3 btw. I talk with former colleagues (British Army) of mine on camo types now and again, and last time we caught up it had me thinking whether a 'same video' comparison between nations' forces respective camos might be possible. Specifically where they share a common climate type /sub-types. Perhaps a SE Europe / Mediterranean & Turkey video?: - Greece (Hellenic Lizard pixeled / non-pixeled), Turkey) - Turkey (Turkish Arid/Desert) - Albania (unsure what they've got now - a mix of US Woodland, PLA Woodland, German Fleck etc...) - Bulgaria (5-colour DPM, Bulgar Lizard variant) - FYROM / Rep of North Macedonia (DPM variant). Maybe not practical, and I appreciate that this a quite a selection of uniform types but I thought I might shoot it up here as a suggestion. I lived in Greece for several years btw hence my particular suggestion. Thanks again. p.s. I live in Hong Kong now, but despite my various pieces of Hellenic Lizard gear all being wholly ill-suited to humid sub-tropical climes I struck gold when wearing a pair of the shorts when at a bbq. I was approached by of all things a fashion designer with her telling me she loved them as they "stood out". Never been so glad for my camo to 'fail me' in all my life! lol!

Looks like that would work well around me... Piedmont of SC. The vegetation around here--for the most part--is a bit darker in the greens. While I love A-TACS FG as a pattern, it is too bright, Multicam is too washed out, UCP... eh there are some sage colored plants around here and in some places can work well and in others just carry a neon sign. MARPAT works pretty dang well, also the good ol' fashioned Woodland. I may just have to spend a few of my wayward, hard earned dollars and pick up some of this to see if the colors match as well as I think. Thanks for another vid. Essayons!

***** I totally get it man, if you say one camo is good and the other one isn't, you're gonna start a war in the comment section :D But that's not the thing i was going for, we just want to hear more from you. Did you see how the "Individual Patrolling Considerations" video was very well received? It's because you talked to us and gave us an excellent insight into patrolling, all done with obvious experience and professionalism. That's what KZread lacks right now, some actual military videos from actual combat veterans, not couch generals or rich gun enthusiasts. All i'm saying is, if in the end of this video if you just said what you told me now, that it took you a while to put together full uniform with greek lizard pattern and that you like it, it would mean A LOT. Please consider being more interactive in future videos, all the best brother! :)

Most Greek mountains are full of kermes oaks (small dark green bushes)... When you sit with them in the background you can disappear from the naked eye even in 10 meters or less ....... The colors and pattern make this camo very hard to pick in these areas We made a test and oh my god...you vanish even without cover Yeah... Mediterranean climate is mostly dry ect but our plants are dark green and because we are mountainous and rocky they are everywhere... The only disadvantage of greek lizard is that if you are in an open field you stick out (as any woodland pattern) or in many islands where the vegetation is mostly small and scarse plants it doesn't work...but in the mainland it's amazing

I serviced the Greek Army for 18 months. 2 points - info I can provide it's that lizard camo is the best camo I for mainland greece ( you get invisible) and in balkans terrain in general but not good for the islands as many have pointed out. The second and most Important thing is that the Hellenic lizard camo comes in 2 variations , a darker one like the one you are using to the video and a lighter one more dirt kinda color for less vegetated retains. Ok my opinion Greek lizard is one of the Best camouflages for heavily vegetated area's darker version : www.google.com/search?q=greek+lizard+camo&client=ms-android-motorola-gfw&prmd=isvn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjFwMOKqtvuAhUCyYUKHbMxDJwQ_AUoAXoECA4QAQ&biw=360&bih=616#imgrc=oopbr44zzYe7kM lighter version :www.google.com/search?q=greek+lizard+camo&client=ms-android-motorola-gfw&prmd=isvn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjFwMOKqtvuAhUCyYUKHbMxDJwQ_AUoAXoECA4QAQ&biw=360&bih=616#imgrc=gA6CePQNDGX7HM It's also interesting to point out the turks copied the Greek lizard camo for their army the last 5 years

Does the very large height of his scope from the bore of his rifle bother anyone else too? I've replaced scopes with shorter ones on my own guns over much less distance.

+jamiemcf1 Depends on the time of year for this place. Right now I'd probably just throw on some M81 Woodland, were heading into the fall and much of the veg has died, leaving a lot of brown and dark colors.

In my opinion, the Greek lizard camo has a big problem. After June the landscape is different. The grass has turned to a golden color in the Greek planes, mountain sides and of course in the Greek Islands. OK in forests it is ideal

What do you believe is the most versatile color for a mesh neck scarf / sniper veil like the one being worn in this video demonstration? If you could choose only color or you were purchasing your first one which would you choose knowing everything about camouflage that you now know?.. Lastly, which brand / size are you are wearing in this video? TIA

OD green if I only could have one... but they're cheap enough there should be no reason why you can't pick up two. I think they run about 12 dollars a pop. Here's three for the price of one with different colors to choose from: www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/3-red-rock-outdoor-gear-sniper-veils?a=1880745
