The land that gifted the world democracy surely had a plethora of flavors awaiting us. Instead, we were met with a flavor plateau that left us yearning for more. The perpetual offering of souvlakis with unapologetically stale bread became a predictable fixture of our Athenian dining experience. The red and green bell peppers dolmas, while vibrant on the plate, echoed a monotonous tone on our palates. We couldn't help but wonder: Where was the fresh baked bread warm from the hearth? Or the comforting embrace of a hot soup or the gentle warmth of a well-brewed tea? Aspects that should have been staples in such a storied land. Ironically, back in the Golden State, our local Whole Foods flaunts an olive bar that is reminiscent of a mini Mediterranean festival. Yet, in Athens, supermarkets seemed to treat olives with casual indifference, limiting their variety and essence. Having explored more than 80 establishments across mainland Greece and its islands, our enthusiasm began to wane. It was dirty. But not too the point where it makes you feel uncomfortable. Paris is dirty. So is basically all main city. Go to Greece. Athens is great. Chalkida has great beaches without being insanely filled with tourists. The people are friendly and its cheap. The history is awesome. Mind blowing

Greeks are really welcoming people. I have seen so many videos of mark but never saw people approaching micah and wanted to play with him. Such good people. ^_^

As someone who loves Italian cuisine this is some high praise. Much love to Italy

The expression on Micha's face everytime dad took a bite is priceless bless him. Even though this video is a few yrs old i couldn't get over how cheap some of the meals and snacks were, even that huge meal at the end for everything only coming to E99 is damn good value, Jesus, the amount of meat was something else lol and finally, after working in a Greek restaurant i was expecting to see Mousaka on the menu but maybe in another episode in the future. I do have to say that Greek cuisine is amongst the best in the world and way under-rated. Loved the video from start to finish.

As a greek myself this kind of videos make me so happy. Im not really fond of the daily life in greece, but i am really proud of the history, language, food and generally anything else that can make greece a great country. And seeing so many foreigners trying out greek food and admiring greece so much it just makes me tear up from happiness, if this makes any sense😅

I am a Greek American. Greek food is really great. If you don't eat meat or fish, Greek food has so many dishes without that. I enjoy the Greek Salad, the Green Bean stew. My favorite, with a piece of feta on the side. Spinach pie, oh my its terrific. The pastries are to die for. My mother always made home made yogurt. With home made dark cherries for a topping. This has made me desperate to do a Greek food tour, but its not just the great presenter, its the fact that Greeks are so welcoming and the food is amazing

I went to Mykonos in exactly 5 years ago and I can honestly say it’s the best holiday that I have been on. The local people were so kind and lovely they made me feel so welcome.

I love Greek food!! I have a friend I worked many years ago and she would bring Greek food in for us to try....out of this week. Always went to their festivals too . Beautiful people!!!

Going to Greece ,on a cruise, this Fall…thank you for showing us sooooo many wonderful places to visit, and foods to try! Everything is so fresh and cooked with love and care…looks delish! In 2019, we visited Corfu (also on a cruise ,of the Mediterranean) and was treated to a wonderful Greek meal in a local restaurant, high in the hills. It was fabulous. Many thanks again!

So true. The strong Middle Eastern and Balkan element of Greek culture (since the ancient Hellenistic times up to the Byzantine-and-Ottoman Empire) makes Greece much more hospitable and very different than Western Europe. Greece essentislly has nothing Western European as a cultural aspect and I believe that is a very good thing.

Though I had an incredibly good experience with Greek food as well - dont even get me started on the salads and souvlakis and gyros - I still wish I had gone after watching this video. Was literally salivating. Greek food and the people are fantastic.

The truth is even spoken by high profiled Greeks who admit that Macedonia was forcefully taken and partitioned by Greece, Albania, Serbia & Bulgaria (Treaty of Bucharest (1913) after the two Bloody Balkan Wars. Greece executing genocide towards hundreds and thousands of ethnically Macedonians who lived in Aegean Macedonia to clean them out of their own homes and land (Now called Northern Greece) and the The 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey to erase any trace of Macedonia or Macedonian in that region. You cannot deny this did not happen? It did actually happen.

Greek food is in my top 3 favorite foods in the world. Unfortunately there's not many places in the United States that do it right. I think this video is convinced me this is the country I want to travel to.

Amazing ..i'm a 57 year old African American and this country is on my bucket list. Our neighbours of ruffly 15 years were Greek. The Pappases. The culture is all about the family. The food is out of this world. We gave them Soul Food they gave us Greek. Lol....

Girl , Greeks are most famous for hospitality . The majority of 3-5mil of annually visitors have a very oposite opinion than yours . Part of the culture is the warm and hospitable of Greeks . And Racism ? LOL. But i have to admit Greeks react to attitude, keep that in mind next time .

yea pretty much...I went to a sushi place & they gave us a dessert for free after but I know that is super rare!! the next time we went we got a free sushi roll and dessert again. But the avg. restaurant won't dare do that...LOL

I've only just started watching Mark's videos, I'm now hooked. I particularly like these Greek ones as my mother was from Athens and it's brought back some amazing memories when I used to visit with her on holiday.
