What a great disservice we did for Ferdinand after his racing career ended. Sent to Arrow Stud in Japan & then, after a long stud career, was slaughtered sometime between 2001 & 2002. RIP Ferdinand.

Hated that filly! But only because we could not beat her! As the daughter of the trainer of Fran's Valentine, Lady's Secret was the last one that was hoped to be found in the entries. On a serious note, Lady's Secret deserved every honor and accolades she received. She was a monster! As far as Fran's Valentine, or Frannie as she was known to those who surrounded her, she was a champion in her own right! Thanks for this post , and replay of a very special time!

The absolute balls of steel for the owners of Wild Again to put up that kind of money to enter him in that first Classic. They could only break even or better on that investment by getting first or second. They were absolutely crawling the last furlong, but Wild Again going 45 for the half, 1:10 for 3/4 of a mile, and being headed the ENTIRE race, was a hell of an effort on that horse's part. Im really glad they didnt take him down. Wild Again deserved that win.

The FIRST Breeders Cup, one of the GREATEST races of all time, and one of THE GREATEST calls in history, by the Babe Ruth of horse racing announcers. Yes Secretariat was definitely one of the best race horses ever, Seabiscuit was a underdog that became a champion. Race times don't win races either does soft competition (Cryptoclearance, Clever Trevor??). When faced against a real champion, SS beat him 3 out of 4 times. Bad luck is part of racing but 3 out of 4 just means SS was better...champions overcome bad luck. Enough said.

I have been a race fan since the 71 Belmont, and I started working on the track in 86 but was at the first Breeders cup at Hollywood park. Gate Dancer broke my heart so many times. Follow up with Alysheba had him in the Derby and Preakness got off him and bet Bet Twice in the Belmont. Can't believe he paid 29 bucks. Later that year my first time at Saratoga dark day afternoon bi see a horse grazing outside my dorm . Muscles through his ears to his tail. I go out to ask the groom who's this horse . Alysheba , Be serious ; I have been very blessed to have such a great time on the track. Only regret ? I didn't come sooner

I agree but I also think that the contact from Wild Again was unintentional. It looked like his jockey was fighting to keep him straight. There's no doubt Slew O' Gold got pinched though. Tough call for the stewards. I think Slew O' Gold likely would have won if Gate Dancer didn't make the run on the outside. We'll never know though. Wild Again did run a great race.

Great Races All, but to see the Jockey leap off Charismatic & cradle his broken leg, to keep his weight off it, is an example of a true Horseman & the Heart of a Horse that finishes the race with a broken leg. Sad to see and yet so very Noble on the part of both Horse and Jockey.
