What we love about Great Sand Dunes Oasis:
1. Location! You can see the Dunes from your campsite.
2. Full hook ups in an area where the next nearest full hook up campsites are 30 minutes away.
3. Scenic - Yes, it is close to the Dunes, but you also have a mountain backdrop.
4. Lots to do - Visit the Dunes, play or wade in Medano Creek, hike the trails, visit the Visitor Center and learn about the Dunes, just a few miles the other direction you can take a short hike to Zapata Falls, Alamosa is not far, visit Fort Garland, watch the sunrise and sunset...stargaze.
5. Nice restaurant and park store
6. Plenty of space to walk our dog
7. Verizon works
What we didn't love about Great Sand Dunes Oasis:
1. Only 20 FHU sites here - book early! They do not open until sometime in May.
Other campsites in the area:
Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve has a 91 site primitive campground called Piñon Flats. You can reserve sites on Recreation.gov. There is also backcountry camping in the park.
BLM (Bureau of Land Management) camping is found in the Zapata Falls area.
Basecamp Family Campground is back toward Alamosa.
If you are planning a visit to Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, check out Great Sand Dunes Oasis. We recommend this stop!

Another great vid on a super interesting park! Were the sunsets beautiful? Any interesting birds in that area?

The sunsets were mesmerizing. Also, watching the dune shadows throughout the day were fun to watch - nature's art. I usually take pictures, or try to, of any unusual birds but none come to mind from this visit, just the usual little birds flitting about in the trees. Now, where we are right now, the Grand Canyon, there is are interesting blue birds with coned dark blue or maybe black heads. They screech like a blue jay. lol I've been trying to catch a good pic of one. There are also chicken size ravens here. 😊

What model is your Yamaha guitar? I have a good old campfire 1973 f-200. If you get back into Central Kentucky sometime maybe we'll camp with you guys somewhere and pick a little !

It is a FDX5 and the reason why I have that one now is the RV slide broke the neck of my old Fender from around 1962. That was a bad day. Picking would be great! We'll keep that in mind. Happy camping! 😊👋
