Is this Colorado’s BEST moderate trail?!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Medano Pass Primative Road or 4wd trail is a well known but not always visited 4x4 trail near the Great Sand Dunes National Park near Alamosa, Colorado. Madano Pass Trail has numerous Medano Creek Crossings, Significant scenic sights, plenty of camping, soft sand wheeling, and is rated as Moderate. We will tell you what you need to know before doing this trail in under 5 minutes. For those who want a longer video, a full trail guide will eventually be published on this awesome trail!
This is the third of a series of concentrated trail videos, but full length Trail Guides on these trails will be released as I get them edited. These are a new kind of video and may morph into mini-trail guides eventually (5 minute Trail guides), but due to my work schedule, I'm making them like this for now. Full Trail Guides are still my priority, just restricted on editing time currently (filming more though!). Feedback is greatly appreciated because I just make these based on what I would want as an offroader, but I make these for others so let me know!
Channel Members have access to our filming schedule and I want you to be in the videos! The Black Bear crew gets additional easy to edit videos but offer more up to date info on trails (since guides take a while to put together). The Holy Cross crew gets more say in what videos get edited for the channel (video credits and early looks at Trail Guide edits). / @coloradomallcrawlers

One thing to keep in mind is that the air compressor in the park is not always working so if you air down make sure you have a way to air back up. Also on the east side there is no air available. Medano Pass is a fun run, we've done it several times east to west. Also there are other trails in the San Luis Valley to explore that are fairly easy.

I've hiked along this trail and used to go to the sand dunes every May. Was usually part of hiking back to camp after sleeping on the dunes overnight. I'm looking forward to the next time I can make it back there and run this trail while I'm there.

I was recently visiting with family at the dunes. I had no idea there were off-roading opportunities in the area. I wondered about it. NOTHING was published in the museum other than hiking. Us old people with job related disabilities use our stock jeeps to enjoy easy to moderate exploration without over doing it so to speak. We own a 2005 TJ Rubicon with some mods. We are remaining with original 31 inch tire size. Easier to get in an out of. I hope to revisit SilverSprings Colorado with my Jeep on a trailer very soon. Thank you 😊

This is why I’m sad seeing off-road trails close. Not everyone can hike a ton of miles, and a 4x4 can get people there easier. Thank you for your comment!

I’ve done Medano Pass 2 time. Once in each direction. We were in a 2010 JKUR which was pretty much stock. Once the sand was soft and loose and once it was wet and compacted. Fun trail and you are right... lots of good camping spots....

There’s so many great trails. Down south I love the gulches (we have videos on them), but you can get in trouble on those trails. Maybe try Mount Baldy first (as long as it doesn’t have Rock Slides… don’t do what we did and go over rock slides like we did there). Balanced rock is fun and technically rated moderate. The vids are designed to show you trails before you go so you can decide for yourself. Good luck!

As I said, they will still be made, but I’m on call 24/7 and I’m working nearly every 10 hours. The only way I could make those right now is if I quit my job, but for me to do that, I’d need to do stuff like patreon, merch sales, affiliate marketing, and taking up these sponsorship requests I get. That doesn’t feel right so I do what I can. I appreciate you wanting them tho and I like making the long guides. Maybe one day I’ll be able to publish a full long trail guide weekly or bi-weekly.

New to off roading. Are public use air stations, tire air pumps common around popular trails? I am planning to bring my own compressor either way. However, if air stations are something to keep an eye out for it would be good to know.

@@coloradomallcrawlers - Many thanks for being a Honorable Reliable Worker! In my many travels last two years, I have learned younger generation is not stepping up to work entry level, learning how to become a valued employee, to moving on into even greater opportunities ahead. I view our new attitude towards work, or Labor as possibly Internet caused, but maybe even President Obama caused preaching every child should have opportunity to go to University. Simply NOT true.
