Ours is a great dog. She's awesome with the kids and fearless and aggressive toward any percieved threat. They have incredibly strong legs. I've seen a Pyr pin and hold an angry pitbull down with no problem.

I thought it was just my pyr that pinned other dogs as a correction, but I guess not 🤣 they're very patient with other dogs and kids and I love that.

I have a rescue dog (from Ft Worth TX, of all places!) that is half Great Pyrenees and half Retriever (yes I did the doggy DNA test 😄). He looks like a smaller (75 pound) version of Great Pyrenees. He's 5 years old now (he was 6-8 months old when Fort Worth Animal Control picked him up along the side of I-35W, and we adopted him), and the best protective dog 🐕 He's scared off bears and other wildlife as well as people who were trying to break into houses in our neighborhood. He's also very curious about everything -- loves going on walks and enjoys the beach. My feedback is to supplement what you're saying about the Great Pyrenees being an incredible farm dog. They make awesome personal companions too. Thank you for sharing your personal experience with your dogs, including the honest stories about the chickens (which made me laugh, ngl 😂). Your Great Pyrenees are beautiful and definitely can tell they are well loved by you & your family 🐶🥰

I just come across your channel looking for anything Great Pyrenees! My little puppy is now about 10 1/2 weeks old I got her at 7 1/2 weeks the breeder let her go a week early due to Ohio getting shut down. I ain’t taught this dog a darn thing! I’m praying that I can train her her name is Lucy and I love her and she grows every week. I’m 58 years I weight about 135 and I’m running out of time. She is very strong willed and nibbled me tremendously the first few weeks but I survived. No little kids in the house my husband and I are both retired. And I ain’t never trained a puppy before. 🤦🏽‍♀️ lord help me. I subscribed to your channel I need all the help I can get. Good job your dogs are beautiful 🐶♥️

Thanks for watching. I have a updated video more about puppies. I’ll be honest in saying this breed is very strong willed. And hard to train by nature. All 3 of mine had a issue with wanting to lean on you as you walk, almost tripping you. I had the best luck correcting them by putting them on a 20ft cable in the yard every time they tried to trip me, chase chickens etc. This worked best for me. They quickly learned they hated being on a leash for a couple hours. Just because they are hard to train, doesn’t mean they aren’t very intelligent.

My update #2 is out. Ironically had my 2nd and last litter of puppies last night. I’m gonna do a 3rd. In 3 months. Not uncommon for a single dog to get killed by wolfs or a pack of coyotes. I Run 2 together at all times. Fixing to fence another 5 acres for a separate pasture, closer to the wild animals. Will run my biggest male etc. the males do a good job of leaving its scent. Which helps as a detour.

@@christinearmington Thanks, they've made it a month, but don't spend any time alone outside. They're only 3&4 months old, so I'm not terribly concerned about their bonding...yet. I read that they don't form a real attachment to chickens anyways....just don't want anything to mess with them or anything else on 'their place'.

ya German shepherds are not great with the flock. they are bread to protect they were originally a herding breed. Great Pyrenees is a live stock guardian they have different brains more independent bread to have low herding instinct. Great Pyrenees will get along with anythiung they raised with. my German shepherd was my dads k9 partner a drug dog. he couldn't care less what the cattle an other flock is doing. but our Great Pyrenees stays with them 24/7

I had plans to pick up a 5 month old female for my son and I tomorrow morning in order to ensure security as a single mother.. issue is that we live in a townhouse and after watching your video I'm apprehensive given your advice that they arent fit for our kind of lifestyle.. do you think that there could still be the potential of her living a full life as long as she gets the amount of exercise and training required for such a large breed? .. even if she has to settle for Mcd's nuggets instead lol The Internet claims it's possible given their adaptability, patience, and intelligence, but I wanted your insight do to the experience youve aquired raising them yourself.
