Yes they are, Brazilian quotes... its just adaptation of the translation... you can't literally trad, some Empirical sayings with literal semantics. Therefore, you should adapt, keeping the meaning, for example " gato escaldado tem medo de agua fria" that means, a cat whose got , burned with hot water, will never get near water even if its cold...but for a foreign. That could sound confusing,or worst. The person could get the feeling of animal abuse beeing common pratice here...so its better say about " a dog bitten by one snake, have fear of all sausages... " wich litterally means the same: "a person that got a bad moment, will be afraid or will try at all costs avoid get into that bad moments again ..even if the actual situation only slighly resembles that one"
