Another great tip, 65. Nothing but good old common sense. Old, hard, dry grease will soften with a little added heat. Thanks for sharing. Mark.

this worked perfectly. I was buttoning up my skid plates on my truck and wanted to use the opportunity to grease the zerks on my shafts. i got all but 1 that wouldn't take grease. it wasn't easy to get access without dropping the shaft. found your video and heated for a few seconds with a torch until I saw the grease start to bubble out the zerk. it took grease no problem after that. even with depressing the zerk fitting I could not get any grease in. your trick saved me so much time and was very satisfying.

Great tip! Thanks a lot, had a mower wheel joint not taking grease and pulled the zerk to test it, that took grease easy. Found your tip and had to apply heat for a while on and off with the zerk off(to allow for theold stuff to seep out better) and finally it takes grease! Thanks again!

I know very few would do it and that is install little plastic covers over the zerk fitting so that they won't get plugged up, I also do that on brake wheel cylinders zerk fittings too. GREAT TIP never tried it I always used a grease fitting rejuvenator on grease fittings put heat on brake wheel cylinder zerk fittings to remove them if rusted on.

sixtyfiveford When I was a teenager, a couple friends and I were answering some ads for dirt bikes for sale. We showed up at one guy's house and he took us to the garage where he proceeded to gas up the bike from a can while smoking a cigarette. We were all frozen in shock watching as some glowing embers fell off the cigarette and landed on the gas tank as he was pouring gas in. He then says "I like to live dangerously". LOL.

Many years ago, I had a Ford pickup with a half-frozen kingpin on the driver`s side. I heated that and worked the wheel left and right, alternating the flame with trying to grease it. Froze up grease?!?! Yet another reason to move south! Hahahahaha. Good tip. I wish more stuff came with zerks. Seems as though things are made to be under maintained and demise early....

You know that and I know that "lifetime lubricated bearings" don't last but the average consumer wants a maintenance free item. More than once I have argued with a guy at the parts store that I wanted u-joints with a zerk fitting and they keep trying to push sealed u-joints on me.
