Lyrics:
They say all the world's a stage
All the men and women merely got a part to play
Am I the one pretending or is everybody fake
Are we a little different or all we all the same
Silver spoons, they fall
Every single time I go to open up my mouth
Do I make decisions or has that not been allowed
Or am I just a vessel for someone else’s sound
Am I a puppet in a dream
Who closed his eyes to everything
All the hands that point directions
Open doors to good connections
I’m a product of pulling strings
But I swear I’m standing on the brink
Of being who everyone thinks
Without hands that point directions
Open doors to good connections
I’m a product of pulling strings
I thought I got the gold
But I was steps ahead of every starter pistol pulled
Thought I was a winner but it turns out I’m a joke
Don’t want my reputation up in smoke
Am I a puppet in a dream
Who closed his eyes to everything
All the hands that point directions
Open doors to good connections
I’m a product of pulling strings
But I swear I’m standing on the brink
Of being who everyone thinks
Without the hands that point directions
Open doors to good connections
I’m a product of pulling strings
Exposing my real flaws
Will come at a real cost
I might be a damn fraud
But at least I’m changing
At least I am changing
I am waking from the dream
Open eyes to everything
All the hands that point directions
Open doors to good connections
Oh from now on, I’ll be cutting strings
I swear I’m standing on the brink
Of being who everyone thinks
I’m switching my perception
Making meaningful connections
Oh from now on, I’ll be cutting strings

Buddy's character development in the show is something I did not expect. And his voice is AMAZING

This sequence is also the most interesting and complex musically and visually. The song is like Panic! at the Disco! and yet the puppet theme is like a backstreet boys song.

It's just amazing how the writers told the same moment through so many perspectives, Hazel was finding her voice, Buddy was realizing his was not really his, the T-birds were working on their own traumas and so were Susan and the Pink Ladies. Amazing, outstanding story and the songs are so addicting!

@@ZeiahYT I think part of the reason I like this series better than the movie is that it's closer to the spirit of the stage play; it's an ensemble cast and almost every major character gets thier moment.

I am so disgusted with Paramount Plus cancelling this and removing all the episodes from the platform. It's an amazing show. Great performances. This is one of my favourite songs from the series.

He's playing sodapop on Broadway in the outsiders musical now.
This song was so well done. I also like how they brought the Shakespeare quote about the world's a stage and were all merely players back, and the small focus on Lydia when they did was a nice touch.
This is the most beautiful Grease choreography ever, one jaw dropping body shape after another. Left me in tears. An echo of Jane's "I Want More", these are the two most incredible individual dances of the season - so far.
@RetroGirl1967
Жыл бұрын
Nice to know someone else heard the echo too.
I saw someone say that this is kind of the musical parallel to Jane’s “I Want More” song and now im even more obsessed with this song
the song is amazing but man i love the little details here, like how at 0:19 when buddy sings "merely got a part to play" he's looking at lydia whose song was "merely players"
"standing on the brink of becoming what everyone thinks" is such a good line
Buddy should've gotten to sing more!!! Every single actor in this show are such amazing singers I wish we had more seasons to get more songs :(
I can not believe that you 1. Cancelled this and 2. Removed it completely. I still had a few episodes to go and missed out on this moment and its incredible. Incorrect choice Paramount.
I will die on the grave Buddy is one of the best characters in the show. We see him evolve and grow so much in such a short time frame. And he does his best to correct his actions, really opens his eyes to other perspective which is something most other characters in the show are incapable of. 100000% team Buddy. He grew so much and truly showed how great of a human he is. I couldn’t stand Richie

I just loved watching Richie and Buddy grow ins this season. When (not if, when) the show comes back I'm looking forward to see how else they'll grow and change, and wonder who else will change (they gave us enough tips that Wally could get some development)
@agenttheater5
10 ай бұрын
I'm hoping we'll get the same for Wally - we got enough hints to know he's a good guy, he's just hanging out with the wrong people. He just needs to learn to stand up for himself more. I have a crazy idea of Buddy ending up sharing a room with Frankie Zucko - seeing as how he can't go home. I have no idea how that would happen though. But when the show comes back I want to see him actually listening to those records that Johnny Vavoom gave him - Fats Domino, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, legends all of them. Hey maybe he could get a job at Vavoom's radio station, even if its just clean-up. I keep imagine who else in the show gets which guardian angel - I know not everyone can get a guardian angel scene but we can still imagine it. I figured that someone should get the Angel of Rock and Roll, but as soon as I assign him/her to Buddy I wonder if maybe Richie, Gil or Frankie will need the angel of Rock and Roll. Which one do you think? And who should the Angel look like? Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis Presley, or maybe Sister Rosetta (though she already has the title of Grandmother of Rock and Roll).
@RetroGirl1967

@@agenttheater5 Buddy needs to be told it's okay to rebel, to go against the grain, to cut loose, so it makes perfect sense for him to have the Angel of Rock and Roll. As for appearance, if you want something 1950s: Little Richard because he's wild and over the top. However, as we have seen with the Angel of Fashion, they exist outside of time, so in that spirit I would like to suggest a Kiss like rock star. In my head, Buddy gets a job at the Frosty Palace washing dishes in the kitchen. It's a way to punish himself. I think there's something sad and poignant about Buddy just catching a glimpse of what's happening through the windows, but no longer being part of it. I love your idea of Buddy getting a job at the radio station that is not an on-air job. Maybe he's answering Johnny Vavoom's fan mail, or helping to keep track of his schedule, or something else at the radio station not directly connected to Johnny Vavoom. I actually love the idea of Johnny Vavoom as serving as a mentor to Buddy.
@agenttheater5
10 ай бұрын
thanks! :) Now I can't decide which would be a better job for him, the Frosty Palace or the radio station. Maybe he starts off at the Frosty Palace and then later gets a job with Johnny Vavoom. You can imagine the rest of the Socs face if he got a job washing dishes at Frosty's. It could give us a lot more insight into them (or just give us some confirmations) depending on how they react to seeing their friend working there, who would still talk to him and who would dismiss him, and who would try to ignore him at first before finally actually talking to him. Then again imagine the PTA's face to see the former class president working somewhere like Johnny Vavooms station, considering what they think of Vavoom. @@RetroGirl1967
this is the best one in the entire show for me, like i was blown away by this actually.
Wow, Jason brings this amazing song to life. The song holds up on it's own, but can anyone hear it come back later in the series and transition into an angry hard rock when Buddy decides which way to go?
@eddiesherman3069
Жыл бұрын
It "turns into an angry rock" later in the episode, after the boys talk to Jane, because they’re mixing it with Richie’s new Hit Me Again motif from the episode because it’s comparing the two boys’ journeys as Buddy is feeling much worse and Richie is feeling much better than they were at the beginning of the episode.
Buddy ended up becoming one of my fav characters by the end, up there with Cynthia, Lydia and Jane. It’s crazy how much he grew and evolved

It's part of the reason why I'm so frustrated we didn't get a second season. I would love to see what happens to Buddy after he's defied his father.
God this song is brutal for Buddy to learn his entire world is only because his father has done everything to get his son where he is when Buddy thought he'd achieved it on his own I can't wait to see where he goes from here as he tries to get solid ground under his feet.

I hate that Rise of the Pink Ladies was axed I would have loved to see more of this show and can only hope that someone else manages to get the rights from Paramount so they can continue the work with both the original director and cast as well.
jason's voice is amazing but can we also admire his dancing? like that scene with the hands on the black background around 1:30 just shows how graceful he is!!
My favourite song of this episode and one of my top favourites overall!! This song has been stuck in my head ever since the episode came out and I keep singing it throughout the day, that's how good the song is! I loved the runs, Jason's voice is so good and he served this performance. The character development with not only Buddy but the T-Birds in this episode was immaculate, I absolutely loved the sentimental moment with the T-birds in the parking garage, so wholesome and funny, Buddy's performance and realization that he barely did anything for himself, instead his father did everything for him, minus getting the role of Romeo.. unless, his character development was something, but lowkey disappointed he didnt tell Jane the truth.. he was growing on me until then. Also the 'parallel' ?? between Ritchie and Buddy, Ritchie throwing away his alcohol, whilst Buddy started drinking alcohol. Love changed Ritchie for the better (as if he hasn't already been an amazing character), i guess.. betrayal..? changed Buddy for the worst? I can't wait to see where Buddy's relationship with himself goes after seeing this episode, Ritchie and Jane's relationship goes and the dynamic between the T-birds. (not to mention Susan's change in this episode and how she's not caring, not being who her mom wants her to be but being who she wants to be)

I AM SO HAPPY YOU BROUGHT UP THE PARALLEL BETWEEN RICHIE AND BUDDY THANK YOU!!!😊
honestly so far this has to be one of the best songs,the chills i get from the emotion that Jason portrays within Buddy during this number,its just amazing,that resentment,betrayal,rage,and sadness you can see all of it clearly and it was just so beautiful im obesseddd. I dont know if this choice was done on purpose or not but throughout this number,the theater crew have been used to personify the people who have been pulling the strings behind the scene,and at the end at 2:34 idk if im just analyzing this to hard but Buddy says "For now on,I'll be cutting strings." and the theater crew falls on the stage when Buddy raises and drops his hands like at that exact moment his finally cut the strings, idk for me if it was done on purpose it is a cool way to show the audience him actually cutting those strings but in an artsy way
DID NOT EXPECT THIS AMOUNT OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT BUT OH BOY THIS GOES SO ABOVE
Not enough people know how good this song is

Not enough people know/knew how good this show/series is. To be fair, I can see how this song gets overshadowed when it's the same episode as "High Rollin" and "Hit Me Again."
1:40 -1:45 has to be my fav movement moment and 2:23 - 2:30 is my favorite vocal moment! He's so good!!! The she performance wzd amazing!!
They really put heart and soul in this show, you can see the art, the love. Although the problems were, first, use Grease as inspiration. People will be always comparing to the original, second, no clear antagonist or villain.

Here's a fact: The writers are the real stars not the actors, actresses, athletes, pro wrestlers, models, directors, productions and studios who the writers be giving their scripts to without the writers there would also not be any fans to inspire and motivate either so for every writer in this country and in other countries around the world keep fighting for your rights and never give up no matter what because we the fans have your back too and by the way to the writers i also say thank you so very much for all that you've done since day one.
