@@jknumber5138 unfortunately some people just don't get it and that's ok. You're right. As a mother, parent and a woman I am extremely bothered by this story. I guess to say it best some murder victims, most murder victims are NOT given ANY whatsoever chance to get away for Help even a 5 second window of opportunity is better than Zero at all. This may have had probably would have had a completely different turn out. The thing that she is to be commended for going back really says to me just Give up, don't try which is the attitude of this Generation, It would have been far more commendable for her to try to get HELP.

Instead of running away like a coward, she tried to help her friend. That's real friendship and she's really brave for doing that. Don't try to dismiss a heroic act just because of "what could've happened if she didn't do this and that". If she hadn't done what she did that day, she probably would've survived the attack and lived a long and happy life surrounded by her family amd friends, living life to the fullest. The two outcomes don't match at all. One is waaay more horrific and horrible than the other so don't compare them bruh.

@@deadinside1776 I agree with Susan. Jennifer could have run away and sought help. Maybe help would have come and both girls would be alive today. Orrrrr, Jennifer could have easily run away and lived with the guilt. Yes she might be alive today and even been a grandmother, who knows. But living with guilt isn't as easy as you're making it seem. Some people are traumatized for life after a traumatic event and can't live their lives "normally" and some even commit suicide!! None of us here obviously were in that situation, so none of us can predict the outcome. But my opinion, I agree with Susan. Jennifer would probably had nightmares for the rest of her life had she run away to safety. Running away, would NOT have made Jennifer a coward!! Whether Jennifer ran away or went back to her friend, either act would have been brave given she was only 14 at the time. None of us will ever know the outcome had Jennifer run away. This unfortunately was the outcome. May both beautiful girls forever rest peacefully 🙏🏽

Within our relationship, some service member had asked our 14 year old for nude pics. I went on a near vigilante spree and started hunting him down but instead notified the FBI. The lady told me I shouldn't go vigilante because of the consequences. The lady agent knows I would have done it and wouldn't regret seeking personal justice.

One of the ex gang members of the two who passed both of them when they were walking down for the shortcut who didn’t warn them actually not only helped put those clowns away, but wrote a sincere apology letter to both families and now talks to kids about the consequences of joining a gang to kids and helps others out from getting themselves into that situation like they were in. He even said himself i was no saint back than but if I was there during the time I would have made sure that this would have never happened. He testified because of how disgusted he was when it made national media. He said it himself that it was despicable and uncalled for. He said I feel responsible for what had happened for not warning them, but did not know that this would happen.

@@care-a-lot1051 no problem. When I saw the interview with the one gentleman who failed to warn the both girls you could hear it in his voice how awful he felt about it. They asked him even at the age of 38 why he and his fellow gang member at the time never warned Peña and Ertman and he said truthfully I never thought that anything would happen to them he thought that they were just passing through to get somewhere and thought that the rest of the crew had already left so he thought nothing of it. As soon as he saw the news he knew immediately what had happened and was in shock. Years later down the road he wrote a letter to both families with a sincere apology and how he felt he could have prevented it if he would have just stopped and take a look back and said don’t go there it’s not safe. But he never did and because of that you’re loved ones is no longer with us. He said in his letter that he lives with this tragedy still to this day, but also was thankful for helping put all of these dangerous criminals away after he saw the news and said to himself I will never ever let this happen to anyone again. When asked about the parents of both he said RIP Randy Ertman with tears flowing down his eyes and said that he has made peace with them and told them I’m always here for you guys if you ever need me. All I can say is god bless this man for truly turning his life around.

@@amunoz1485 you gotta understand we all were once kids and made stupid decisions and they were no exception, but even in an interview with the gang member who testified against his own he even admitted that he thought it was cool at the time joining a gang and had been in the black and white click for a year and a half until the news spread of the death of Peña and Ertman and when he found out what had happened he was in shock and disgusted by it and told the jury that when he was leaving the initiation he never thought twice to warn them because he thought they were just commuting to where they were going and never in his wildest imagination that this would have happened. He said himself if he knew or even had that gut feeling he would have told both girls hey it’s not safe to go down there you better get out of here. Yes it was an unfortunate tragedy that happened to them, but the former gang member said if I can help save other lives than I felt that there tragedy didn’t go unnoticed. When he broke down and cried I felt for the young kid at the time.

Great video Lamont! What troubles me most about this case was the fact that these gang members were out on the streets and not in jail where they belonged. Four of the six individuals that were responsible had extensive histories for violent conduct. The gang leader had already killed two people. It's disgusting that the parole officers didn't follow up with these losers and that they were out on the street in the first place. Two innocent girls lost their lives for absolutely no reason! It makes me sick.

I appreciate how well you bring these stories to this community. These are not easy events to talk about, yet do so without dramatizing them more than needed as they are already brutal and one can tell that you have you put thought into your words beforehand so as not to traumatize the family any further than have been. These stories should be told and never forgotten even if you did not live at that time or live anywhere near where they occurred. I shared this on another video about the same case…. Thank you for posting about this very tragic and horrific crime. I first learned about Jennifer Ertman and Elizabeth Pena when I was on a pro-death penalty forum. I was arguing against the death penalty, but when I read this case…this was one of the few times where I felt it was justified. I feel awful for what happened to them and although I’m curious about the book “Pure Murder” that details the case, I’m afraid to read it. When reading and hearing about this case, I get very upset and I can’t begin to imagine what both girls were thinking and feeling when these demonic guys were violating them over and over…. I wish I could put a flower on each memorial in the park, but I don’t know if I’ll ever get to Texas (I live in New York). So I went to Find A Grave website and placed a flower on both girls memorial pages and a message. I did the same for Randy Ertman.

This disturbs me so much because they both were my age. I remember being 14 & 16 and I even understood their clothing because I used to dress like that in the 90's! I can't even imagine what these innocent girls went through. These monsters died peacefully while the others are still living, eating and breathing God's air. These girls went out in the worst way possible. I am so sorry they suffered this way. Dear God rest their souls 🙏🏽❤

I remember reading the book. it was very hard to get through. I was around these young ladies age. The hatred for those waste of space creeps still angers me. I'm so glad those 2 had the courage to go to the police. Those girls were babies, they didn't do anything to deserve what was done to them. I know it's awful to say but I hope all of those evil souls got there's in prison , they got off so easy their pain doesn't compare to those girls and their families pain. I'm so glad the death sentence held for most of them. I still boil with anger at this story. You wish everyone the best until you meet a living demon and realize their evil to the core. I still can't get passed the anger of this I wish them nothing good. I even feel horrible for saying it. It was awful torment for those girls and I hope those assholes (because their not men all they can be referred to is an asshole, bastard, rapist, evil one )get their torment and it's 100× paid to them. Oye I'm so unforgiving on this one. I hate all of them for what they did. They make everyone around them tortured. I can't even wish them mercy not one of them showed mercy. Anyway I'm mad all over

Well done, Lamont - bless you :-) Also....a very well written book on this crime, and I highly recommend: "Pure Murder" by Corey Mitchell. It goes into more detail about how the guys were raised, unfolding of the crime, and most important tells the full story of the girls' friendship. WARNING - the description of the crime in this book is VERY graphic. And finally, there are interviews with the family members and friends of the victims that are insightful and incredibly heartbreaking.
