When we had our driveway graveled 27 years ago, the driver did an awesome job, only thing I had to do was move gravel over into the edges where he couldn't get into with the truck. 4 loads of gravel, and it took me maybe a dozen wheelbarrow loads and a couple hours with a rake to get it all finished. My driver did awesome, but he'd been driving a dump truck for 30 years...most of today's drivers haven't been driving for more than maybe a year and haven't grasped the concept yet of how to get the dump bed and tailgate to work together with the speed of the truck....driving that slow in that small of a space you are always going to have to use a shovel, rake, and wheelbarrow, not enough space there to get the gravel to spread out like you would want. No fail here at all, just lazy homeowner. That may take an hour or maybe 2 get the shovels and rakes out and stop whining...the time it took you to take the video, and upload it you could have had that gravel all raked down and ready to go.

@Glenn Beck Nothing wrong with how he poured it. It is the drivers job to deliver the materials only, usually in a pile. Spreading it at all is going above and beyond. I imagine the homeowner paid the quarry for the aggregate and they contracted a driver to deliver it. That is the only way I have seen a small driveway like this done. No need to contract a general contractor or a construction company. The homeowner may have asked the driver to spread it, for which he would have received no additional compensation and was not his obligation, and he did so as a favor. Some customers can never be pleased and are best avoided. You seem like one of them.

Unlatch before raising the bed, raise the bed until it starts rolling out then put it in low gear and the push the lever all the way forward to raise the bed. Then dump the clutch and let the truck do the work just use your break to slow it down. *Never back over big piles while loaded with bed raised, lower the bed and then back up if possible, if not then just dump it in a pile.*

Anytime effort is made and it not in 1 pile is a success for me. If you want it professionally done, hire a crew. I have spread it many times from a pile and I'd take this anyday.

I have no idea why people are saying this is hard, he didn't get the material up against the gate before he hit the release and his box was too low to begin with. Then he tries to raise it after, he did it ass backwards. I learned this in a day at 15 years old, this was sad to watch.

I pull flatbed over the road, I ran triaxle dump before I got my CDL A at 21. I'm not a dump truck expert by any stretch of the imagination, the only thing I might have done differently was to dump a small pile near the house, and space out a few more piles for the homeowner to spread. And I absolutely would not have backed up on the piles, with or without the dump box up or down. Tipping over is not cool, 😂

Not a horrible spread for such a tight spot. Tighten the chains so your not laying thick layers, then go over it a couple 2 or 3 times, starting from the beginning. I wouldn't recommend laying material down while backing over large piles.

Not a great sifting job, but fixable. I have a friend who bought 40 tons a few years ago and it was to be tailgated in a driveway about 500 feet long. Instead, he got 4-5 mounds that needed spread by Kubota. I lent him a Kubota and he helped me build a deck. Pretty fair trade.

Try spreading stone from a road sweeper! The vehicle isn’t designed for the job and neither is the truck shown here. In a sweeper you can’t lift the body without the e brake on so you always get little piles where you raise the body, also the centre rear floor is raised, sloping outwards so you lay in two tracks rather than evenly. The guy in this clip probably has the same issues, certainly regarding lifting the body with the e brake on. Also not having a powered rear door doesn’t help because gravity is working against him. There is no fail here. You want it spread hire a dumper truck. This guy has done his best.

I haven’t spead but like twice and first he didn’t let the bed up high enough second he could’ve started back a little farther and well third he was on the damn brakes should’ve just let the clutch up in the friction zone position and gave it a little more gas and started letting the bed up more.
