When we had our driveway graveled 27 years ago, the driver did an awesome job, only thing I had to do was move gravel over into the edges where he couldn't get into with the truck. 4 loads of gravel, and it took me maybe a dozen wheelbarrow loads and a couple hours with a rake to get it all finished. My driver did awesome, but he'd been driving a dump truck for 30 years...most of today's drivers haven't been driving for more than maybe a year and haven't grasped the concept yet of how to get the dump bed and tailgate to work together with the speed of the truck....driving that slow in that small of a space you are always going to have to use a shovel, rake, and wheelbarrow, not enough space there to get the gravel to spread out like you would want. No fail here at all, just lazy homeowner. That may take an hour or maybe 2 get the shovels and rakes out and stop whining...the time it took you to take the video, and upload it you could have had that gravel all raked down and ready to go.

@Glenn Beck Nothing wrong with how he poured it. It is the drivers job to deliver the materials only, usually in a pile. Spreading it at all is going above and beyond. I imagine the homeowner paid the quarry for the aggregate and they contracted a driver to deliver it. That is the only way I have seen a small driveway like this done. No need to contract a general contractor or a construction company. The homeowner may have asked the driver to spread it, for which he would have received no additional compensation and was not his obligation, and he did so as a favor. Try spreading stone from a road sweeper! The vehicle isn’t designed for the job and neither is the truck shown here. In a sweeper you can’t lift the body without the e brake on so you always get little piles where you raise the body, also the centre rear floor is raised, sloping outwards so you lay in two tracks rather than evenly. The guy in this clip probably has the same issues, certainly regarding lifting the body with the e brake on. Also not having a powered rear door doesn’t help because gravity is working against him. There is no fail here. You want it spread hire a dumper truck. This guy has done his best.

As a dumptruck operator not bad. Not good but not bad.
I also drive a dump truck, he didn't move the rock to the back of the truck, that takes about two and a half cylinders then you drop back to two cylinders, on a driveway that short you start raising right away, I could have pulled that off, unless there was too much then there would be a little pile at the end, also would have been easier to shovel if it wasn't ran over
He tried its short driveway hes operating a body trying to keep a rythem and that's all left foot it's not as easy as everyone thinks

Thats when you have a tractor and a blade to finish the work.
One thing I’ve learned the hard way is to always mark where you are going to put gravel with little flags. Get a measuring wheel and lay it out before you start spreading. A land plane will save a lot of back breaking shoveling and raking after the fact.
Don’t hate, operator just needs some more time in the saddle. At least he didn’t dump it on the road, hit the house/mailbox, or pull down utility lines. Everyone that can do their job well was the “new guy” at one point.

A short, small, dump so close to the road is darn near impossible.
I ran a dump truck for about 4yrs. Did this alot the last couple of years I was running a dump truck. There's a few things he needs to work on. Unlatch before raising the bed, raise the bed until it starts rolling out then put it in low gear and the push the lever all the way forward to raise the bed. Then dump the clutch and let the truck do the work just use your break to slow it down. *Never back over big piles while loaded with bed raised, lower the bed and then back up if possible, if not then just dump it in a pile.*
Hi SC ,may I use these klip "Gravel Dump Truck Spreading Fail!" in my compilation of dashcam clips?with credit(name on screen).
Anytime effort is made and it not in 1 pile is a success for me. If you want it professionally done, hire a crew. I have spread it many times from a pile and I'd take this anyday.
A little more angle after the initial go. A small margin with that little drive.
Be thankful this guy did this, if it were me I wouldn’t move forward unless you have solid flat ground, you’re going to wear out the piston that holds the hydraulic to the bed. Even so, it happens sometimes 🤷🏽♂️.

Not a horrible spread for such a tight spot. Tighten the chains so your not laying thick layers, then go over it a couple 2 or 3 times, starting from the beginning. I wouldn't recommend laying material down while backing over large piles.
Hope you have a neighbor who’s good in his skid-steer 😂.
Don’t know about where this is but, here, Ararat Rock drivers can and do know exactly how gravel is spread. In all my deliveries for the last 35 years, I’ve never had a delivery such as this.
He did a fine job.
Spreader chains were like one or two links short. It’s an art. Some can, others can’t. Shoot, I would have piled up the truck before I even got there.
Not a great sifting job, but fixable. I have a friend who bought 40 tons a few years ago and it was to be tailgated in a driveway about 500 feet long. Instead, he got 4-5 mounds that needed spread by Kubota. I lent him a Kubota and he helped me build a deck. Pretty fair trade.
not a failure. Dump truck should not be expected to do the spreading anyway. Spreading is the skid loader guy's job
He has no idea what those chains hanging off the back of the truck are for lol.
Way better than one big pile brother!
Raise the box the material goes against the gate .Open the gate go like hell .Sometimes pop a little wheelie.
I mean his job his to deliver stone he did that...sure it wasn’t his best job and as u can see he was aware of it but u know get a couple guys with rakes and u should have it done in no time
Must be the new driver
Your fired! 😆
Short drives are hard, setting chains real tight and spreading thin layers works best.
Its a work in progress.. some see fail I see potential in a couple of years...
I drive a dump truck and i can tell you what he done wrong ... I haven’t spead but like twice and first he didn’t let the bed up high enough second he could’ve started back a little farther and well third he was on the damn brakes should’ve just let the clutch up in the friction zone position and gave it a little more gas and started letting the bed up more.
Good job, good job!
That's something you've got to do all of the time to make it spread more evenly. That was not a fail and a heck of a lot better than 1 pile with shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows.
He got out and said alrighty looks good! And rolled out
