My friend's sister interned with her, and said she was the kindest, most down to earth person she had ever worked for. Long after her internship was over, she would still get little gifts like stationary and handwritten cards from Kate. In fact, Patty was my introduction to her, and now I have a lot of her stuff in my closet. I was heartbroken when I found out that she passed away.

@@sandysouthward3635 I seen an interview with David spade and he was crying about 5 months after she passed. He said she would always give him an outpouring of her heart 💜 full of the truest advice. When he would ask a lady friend over they would always ask was she going to be there . She would tell them we are just being casual and they would dress up in all her clothes . She always felt shy in that regard But they had great love and laughs. It was so nice to see him so emotional.

One thing no one talks about is how menopause affects older woman. She was around the age, and especially if she suffered from mental health issues during her life, menopause could have made it worse. It’s such a gigantic change for women, it feels like second puberty , yet it doesn’t get much attention.

I agree.. If she did decide to go off of her meds like someone had told her to that could have been very catastrophic. I had a friend the ended his life this same way and he ended up doing it at a time where he had switched his meds and it made him more depressed than normal. He mentioned it in a live video the day before he died... he didn't give himself the time to adjust, read a bad review about himself online, and ended up deciding to end it.

I worked part time, at Stein Mart the following day I noticed a bright yellow small Kate Spade purse, we never sold her brand in her store. I know, it sounds crazy, but I believe in signs and a higher power.

Only the underside of the handle has a little bit of wear, but you can’t see it. I did not know she had sold the company. I still think of her when I see her business name with the little spade on it. I had never had a designer bag until this one. Never would think of buying one . When my daughter ordered it, she just asked me to pick from some colors and I choose blue. It’s a beautiful color of blue, a little different. Not a royal blue and not a navy blue but like a mix. Thank you so much for doing this well done tribute. Kate’s loss was a blow to millions who loved her designs. I have looked at her resting place before and find it sad no mention of the mark she made in the fashion world on her gravestone. Her married surname or the ♠️ symbol would have conveyed her legacy Regardless, her unique colorful spirit lives on in her designs and no doubt in her beautiful daughter. RIP Miss you Kate Spade, fan from day 1.

Kate and I would be the same age. I’ve loved her designs, clothes, bags and jewelry for as long as I can remember. Thank you for this lovely tribute. There has been so little written about her life. The fashion world lost a true icon. Such a shame she didn’t know that in her heart. 😢

Kate Spades designs are timeless pieces. They are not a fad that shows up for brief amount of time and then disappears. I so admired her clean line and the designs of everything she’s done. Long after she’s left we will still treasure her bags and her designs. She is timeless like Audrey Hepburn.I wish she was still here but sometimes sadness grabs a hold of you that you can’t shake off. I hope she found the peace she seemed to be seeking. RIP

I read about Kate passing and was very saddened. I decided to keep her memory alive to buy her purses and anything else I can find of her that's affordable. I love my red Kate Spade tote bag with the red wallet to match. I also have one of her black leather purses. I just want to keep her memory alive because I know she must have suffered. My mother suffered from Bipolar disorder. Depression is no joke.

A friend of mine’s father was on a flight and was sitting next to a woman who seemed troubled. He talked to her at length, and at some point during the conversation, she just leaned over on his shoulder and cried. So he tried to console her for the remainder of the trip and she thanked him for his kindness. You can only imagine his shock when the news came on about her death. He told my friend that she was the woman on the plane. It made him uneasy, but he was happy to provide her the emotional support she needed in that time. I’m not sure how much time passed between that encounter and her death, but it’s just so sad. Imagine crying on the shoulder of a stranger because you’re so depressed and worn out. My heart goes out to her family and her poor soul, especially.

Andy said that her struggles started at 49. That is when mine started and mine was from Perimenopause. It’s been rough because it is like post partum at times and it can be really strong. Many women going through menopause feel out of it, in a bubble, disconnected, and sadly we’re ignored with these issues. I am finally starting to see better days as I weathered the storm and wish she had too. Her bags are still my favorite. RIP Kate. I am sorry menopause was that tough. It gets better (for anyone reading) but it may not feel like it because it can take years and really do a number on us.

Great commentary and tribute to Kate Spade. She was genius in her venture. In fact I still have my KS bags from 20 years ago in my closet. I bring them out to admire and proudly wear on my left arm. I hope her daughter and family are doing well. My grandfather also took his life. It’s not a club any of us want to be in. Nonetheless I send love to all whom have lived through it or have been affected by this. There is pain in others and in ourselves that no one else can see😢

You are a great story teller. Thank you for the wonderful biography. Most people just earn a paycheck (myself included) and enjoy life more when leaving a career. There are others who are fortunate to develop their life's passion into a career. It seems that Kate Spade was the latter. In hindsight it's so unfortunate that she and her partners sold her lifes passion which was her identity. Yes, she was able to focus on her daughter. But ultimately her daughter lost her Mom. No amount of money or big payday can ever bring true happiness.

Thank you for doing a very detailed and accurate bio of Kate Spade. My first designer bag was Kate Spade (which I still have today) and I only knew from limited news outlets just a bizarre statement her husband gave but felt that something was off, yes, being menopausal and or bipolar is such a bad combo (I’m a member of that club) but she was so lively when interviewed but then to see how the end of her life played out is/was such a tragic loss for this talented woman. I’m still having doubts about her husband and that separation but we can’t bring her back. It’s so sad. rest in peace, Kate

Very informative & interesting video! I've wanted a Kate Spade glitter bag for YEARS. In college I liked to collect handbags mostly during the era of hip hop apparel lines like Baby Phat, Rocawear, Applebottoms, G-Unit, Dereon, etc that weren't super expensive but still a bit pricey. I had a few more expensive 1s from Guess & Coach but then I became a mom & as usual my luxuries were put aside & my child got everything. But I recently saved up all my credit card rewards & got a GORGEOUS lilac glitter Kate Spade bag & matching wallet for a great price on Mercari & Im totally in love with it! RIP Kate Spade
