Grateful Dead - Standing On The Moon (Philadelphia, PA 7/7/89) (Official Live Video)
Музыка
"From its debut earlier in 1989, Standing On The Moon was greeted as a wonderful addition to the Grateful Dead's repertoire. Wonderfully vivid Hunter lyrics with a late-era classic Jerry ballad made for a beautiful moment whenever it was played, and this version from the second set of the final performance at JFK Stadium is spectacular." - David Lemieux
Directed by Len Dell’Amico and co-produced by Len Dell’Amico and GDP.

Music from the heart that makes you think
Standing on the moon I got no cobweb on my shoe Standing on the moon I'm feeling so alone and blue I see the gulf of Mexico As tiny as a tear The coast of California Must be somewhere over here, over here Standing on the moon I see the battle rage below Standing on the moon I see the soldiers come and go There's a metal flag beside me Someone planted long ago Old glory standing stiffly Crimson, white and indigo, indigo I see all of southeast Asia I can see El Salvador I hear the cries of children And the other songs of war It's like a mighty melody That rings down from the sky Standing here upon the moon I watch it all roll by, all roll by Standing on the moon With nothing else to do A lovely view of heaven But I'd rather be with you Standing on the moon I see a shadow on the sun Standing on the moon The stars go fading one by one I hear a cry of victory And another of defeat A scrap of age old lullaby Down some forgotten street Standing on the moon Where talk is cheap and vision true Standing on the moon But I would rather be with you Somewhere in San Francisco On a back porch in July Just looking up to heaven At this crescent in the sky Standing on the moon With nothing left to do A lovely view of heaven But I'd rather be with you, be with you!! 🌎 🌹 🌙

and when Brent, Phil, and Billy were in the band
My first exposure to this song wasn't from the Grateful Dead, or from a cover version. I was watching an NBA broadcast, and one of my favorite humans, Bill Walton, quoted from verse 4. Rest easy on that back porch, Bill. You will be missed!
There is something so hauntingly beautiful about this song.

What made them so great is that no one else captured the human experience as well as they did. Sad songs are one thing, but there is something absolutely real & haunting about this performance and so many others. It's like, you can feel the narrator in your soul and fear becoming them.

This is one of the most underrated shows ever. This show is so so so so good. The sound is perfect. And every song sounds perfect and rocking. It’s a highlight in a year full of them. The official release of this show is one of the best sounding ever. It and Terrapin Station (3/15/90). Morning dew from this night and so many other songs are incredible. Stagger Lee. Listen to it loud on some good speakers! Hopefully one is a good subwoofer!! Phil is on fire. And Jerry at peak performance.

I'm not sure it's underrated. I think it's considered to be one of the legendary shows of the late 80s - early 90s. However, I'm going to say that Buffalo 7/4/1989 was even better. I was about 15 feet away from the stage on Jerry's side for both of those. The Buffalo Terrapin was out of this world, by the way.
Always makes me cry. Miss you my sweet Jerry. NFA all. Sending love to each and every one of my fellow heads.

The build up is mind blowing. Then when he paints the picture of what I imagine being on a little blue porch in beautiful weather, in love. Bottle of beer. Talking about all you’ve ever seen and done and where you could exist. Huge. And then, it happens. I’d rather be with you. Chilling. I could die right at the moment of that lyric and be fine.

Just gives me so many memories of summers in Ohio, not a care in the world just surrounded by my loved ones, good, happier times.
I swear, the second riff on Jerry’s solo made the skin on my legs jumping a beat!! Only Jerry can make that happen.
Someday I'll be standing there too🤟🤠
If anyone ever asks...this is one of my very favorite songs. And this is my favorite GD year.
Great show. The Blow Away is best ever. I remember that place literally rocking during that show.
I think it was summer tour ‘93 that they were calling the ‘Standing On The Moon’ tour… I vividly recall standing in front of the stage at highgate airport Vermont bawling my eyes out while Jerry was singing “somewhere in San Francisco…”
Had to come here and tell you John, This is the 3rd song that played on my very old playlist. This song makes me think of you and our road-trip. Young and in love, the world uncertain but our future endless and certain. I’ll always love you. I miss you dearly, You’re the part of me that I hold when things feel like their too tough. Hope you are happy and receiving the love you deserve.
The placement or removal of lyrics really doesn't matter. This was still my jam. Sometimes we all need a slow down. Be with you! I'd rather be with you! That's what matters, right?

Definitely one of the most beautiful versions, I was lucky to see them play this and Stella Blue, my two Dead favorites in Frankfurt, 1990, my first (and last) Dead concert. Great show!!!
I'll bet one could hear Phil during this song on the moon!!
Robert Hunter did not get his recognition for all these amazing lyrics he wrote. Everyone assumes Jerry and Bob wrote these songs. Robert Hunter wrote the melodies and lyrics Jerry performed them.
Brings back great memories I was at this show selling balloons life was so much better
Old Glory standing stiffly, Crimson, White, and Indigo.
you just have to understand why they have such a massive following after seeing them live. Sadly I never got to see Jerry himself. but Bob is so kick-ass that dude read my mind or something. i just thought oh man could you play this next?and they did. coincidence or not I was thrilled.
