Grateful Dead - Loser (Philadelphia, PA 7/7/89) (Official Live Video)
Музыка
"When Loser was 'on,' the song was sung with conviction and passion, and the instrumental segment built to a massive crescendo, one of those moments that indicated the band was having a great night. In the late 1980s into the early 1990s, there were several versions of Loser that fit this bill. The Albany rendition from 3/24/90 gets a lot of the mentions, but this one from the previous summer is every bit as great." - David Lemieux
Directed by Len Dell’Amico and co-produced by Len Dell’Amico and GDP.

Yep, for me, the '89 Riverfront Coliseum "Loser" was the template that Jerry would use throughout that period until reaching a climax at Knickerbocker 3/24/90. Such a powerful tune!

If I could only listen to two bands for the rest of my life, Grateful Dead would be both of them.
I always felt like Brent was the musician Garcia needed in the GD. Sometimes it looks and sounds as if the two of them are just playing as a duo, and everyone else slides in around them. A great team.

The way they look at each other when they're locked in together says it all. I find myself rewatching any time Jerry makes that little smile from some move Brent made, it's always heartwarming to see and incredible to listen to. What a band.

I was a tour kid. And I kept up even into the post JG work and when I look back on it all, the times with Brent were my personal favorites, because of him being him. Jerry being Jerry, it all just meshed and vibed. Mesmerizing..

There’s a reason this is fire. 87 to Spring ‘90 is one of the best eras. Jerry is doing fills left and right. Bobby is right behind with some of his best work. We haven’t even started talking about Brent yet.

It’s technically a Jerry solo song (from his first solo album from 1972). One of my faves too!
There’s something about seeing Jerry smile. It makes me very nostalgic, almost to tears. Touring with the Dead were some of the best days of my life.
This song would probably be average in the hands of anybody else. But Jerry knew how to bring out the soulful elements of it. And Brent was a perfect counterpoint to him.

I was here back in 89. Last show at JFK. This was one of many 😮 moments that night. 99° I think? Nightfall and breeze kicked in.
Jerry shredding a distorted guitar solo on this song during these few years (late 80’s early 90’s) is something so special. Nothing the man couldn’t play.
the best time of my life seeing the dead
What a solo on this! I'm not a huge fan of the latter era in live Dead, but I've gotta admit that 89-90 was smoking hot for that era of the Dead. Jerry looked and sounded healthy and this show is real nice.
