Thank you Dave...btw....we all appreciate you do, don't forget that...i was at this show, my second....i was in Buffalo again either the following year or the year after when the assheads broke the fences down, I was a o frustrated with that happening, as were others.....this wonderful thing id come to love just being torn apart...i was only 17, but to me, then, it felt as if it was happening at my favorite uncles house...looking back, now at 47....still seems like the perfect analogy....nfa

It was played a lot but rare that all the lyrics are spot on, in tune w/full harmonies perfectly amplified (damn Brent, you were so damned good) and Jerome is really at his 90's peak right here with unshaking precision. This is so solid and grateful.

Very few "jam" bands have the courage to bring the pace down to this level. They are so worried about people leaving the dance floor, losing their buzz, etc. But it's songs like this that give the set dynamics, making the faster songs even more powerful.

Spot on. I quit playing in a Dead tribute after 18 years because they became afraid of people leaving the dance floor and thus only played the 15 'big' songs all the freaking time.

@@PaulBell88 indeed. A song like Morning Dew, for example, with its climactic finish, can never be played with a fast approach because the musicians would be afraid of bringing the pace down.

Well said. The only thing Id disagree with is the term "jam" band. Thats a diminutive term that can never really define the Dead. Thats why we are still here peeling away the onion layers all these years later - because the Dead were their own paradigm forged from being open to every other paradigm and thats what makes them so endlessly great

@@steveg6035 I never cared for that term either when it was first bandied about (early 1990s if I remember correctly). I felt that it merely described one aspect of the Grateful Dead. But alas, people ran with it and some bands even embodied it. And you are right, the Dead were their own paradigm and, as time has proven, are not so easily replicated.

I was at this show. My second time seeing the band in Orchard Park (Buffalo) I remember going through the lot before the show and seeing a bus with a bunch of folks out front playing acoustic guitar & hand drums & such, having a good time, drawing people together... So, I'm standing there, checking it out and a guy comes over and we start talking. He invites me and my best friend to come check out the bus. Freaking thing is pretty awesome. Had all teak woodwork and nice comfy seats with Mexican blankets covering them. So we're talking with this dude and he's telling us the deal with the bus - the people are all from a commune type of deal in Vermont. So we're talking, and the guys asks if we want some OJ with vinegar in it - he says it's really refreshing. So... Sure. It was very refreshing (it was pretty hot that day). As we're talking and sipping our OJ, this guy comes and sits down with us. A big, blonde, gregarious dude. I turn and look at my buddy - Holy Fuck! It's THAT dude!!! The year before - '89, we went to a bunch of East Coast shows, including the Foxboro and Orchard Park shows. Foxboro was insanely hot and sunny all day. Got pretty sunburned, as did many, many others. I remember some guy wandering through the crowd - "Doses for sunscreen, Doses for sunscreen" Great show & Off to Orchard Park we go... First time I ever trip... I remember Natalie Merchant & 10,000 Maniacs opened, she was pretty cool "We hope we see you all again, perhaps in a SMALLER football stadium." So 'bout halfway through the set we see this guy - big , tall blonde guy, long hair, glasses, sunburned. We chat him up as he passes a bowl our way - "Must have been in Foxboro, Eh?" "Yeah, Man, Awesome Show!!!" We laughed about the "Doses for Sunscreen" guy, cuz he remembered that guy too. So we enjoy the show right by this guy down on the floor, have a great time, and off we go. Every so often we'd reminisce about different shows and invariably the memory of the big blonde dude always came up. He was just very memorable. A year later, we're sitting on this bus and that dude comes in and sits down beside us!!! Too Funny!!! So we get the whole story that after x amount of time partying and following the band, he joins the folks with the bus and was living in Vermont with them. (At least that's what I'm remembering close to 30 years later). I am So Thankful for the beautiful music and people the Grateful Dead still bring into my life to this day! Love to All

My last Brent show, it was never the same without him IMO. Feel truly blessed to have spent my youth on the road. Love this version, song breaks my heart in a special way!! Jerry was truly a master of those ballads tears of joy

Makes me cry almost every time

After all the dead have given us myself personally I get more geeked about jerry ballads than anything. They can stop me dead in my tracks and bring tears to my eyes if all the right contributing factors are at play. Fantastically brilliant poetry(Hunters lyrics) sung by oh yeah just the fucking man himself.....pair that with heartfelt raw emotio

Beautiful tune, while i prefer the versions with Keith on piano this version is excellent, Jerry's aged voice suits this song well, thanks for the unreleased footage

Nice to have a lot of Phil in the camera on this one, Phil's performance here is outstanding! Phil and Jerry working perfect together.

Well Jerry, it's anything but a high time lately. We had it pretty good last century.

My 1st show!! We were at the far end under the Marlboro sign. Came into the stadium on a warm sunny day as "Teach Your Children" was being played by CSN. Terrific show, especially the Truckin' > jam, Sugar > Scarlet. 1st of 83 shows. ...Ain't no place I'd rather be.....

still think that had Brent gotten himself a little healthier and stayed around longer, Jerry might have as well. In retrospect, the post Brent years were really just the downward spiral - a few last sparks but Jerry never looked quite as into performing with the Dead after Brent - He always seemed much more involved and engaged with the JGB and Garcia/Grisman than with the GD from late 90-95

@@StevenBrooksBand no doubt - Brent and Jerry had such a solid musical connection. Always loved the grins theyd share over on stage left when something caught their ears. Lots of "could ofs" and "wished theyd" to go around with their losses for sure but I am nothing but grateful for being able to catch some of that ride while it lasted

The only time I got to see them perform this. Still gives me chills. #NFA

Was a great show. Looking back now it’s hard knowing that was the last time I got to see Brent. He had such a magical connection with them. ⚡️💀🌹

LoL, flashback...Given to me as a present from my wife (not a deadhead, not knowing Phil had it) I still have that same whale tie-die that Phil is wearing, stashed away in my basement. Along with 50+ GD shirts I bought at shows over the years.

The last show I saw Brent live in person and it was such a great show always loved truckin up to Buffalo it was always special and I loved him so much he was my favorite and though I experienced many grate shows after he passed it was never quite the same. How was I to know you didn't mean goodbye?? You meant please don't let me go... heartbroken NFA

I believe Brent passed 10 days after this show. 32 years today actually. Also my birthday.

I was not present in this show. I am not a 15 years old who is convinced great music was made in 1960s and 70s. I am not diagnosed with cancer nor I am doing chemotherapy sessions. This song was not played at the funeral of my uncle. My story is not remarkable. Buy I truly love this song and I am a great Grateful Dead fan.

@@iheartcolorado9311 Yes- I did one show D&C in Albuquerque 2yrs ago.. Was fun seeing olde friends but kinda just made me sad also. Oh well Im olde as dirt let the kids have their fun. I guess the best thing is D &C passing down the torch and keeping at least a little of the music alive for the younger folks who never saw the Grateful Dead..

Great tune, one of my favorites..., the Dead were capable of playing really sloooow! But it still had that drive..., also look at all of the electronics they had..., reminds me of a NASA control room! The Grateful Dead were very conscience of their sound quality, and were pioneers of utilizing state of the art amplification...,

A great show. Ironically the ‘90 summer tour was by far their best tour in many years only to have it be their last. Once Brent died it was a rather fast slide for Jerry. And as was always the case; as Jerry went so did the band.

not sure how anyone at the concert stayed awake - including the band. Never seen a band that plays sooooo slow. Well, now it's Phish and Dead & Co that are the anti-insomnia bands.....
