Grateful Dead - Brokedown Palace - Fare Thee Well Live w/ Bill Walton at Levi's Stadium 6/28/2015

Музыка

This was the Grateful Dead's last song of the night from their last show in their hometown of San Francisco. It was filmed at Levi's Stadium from the pit in front of the band. And yes, the extremely tall guy with his arms up in the air is Bill Walton (FF to about 4:05 and 5:30 if you want to see him). He's still blocking shots to this day!

I was there for this performance, and this was a beautiful rendition of this song. As i grew up listening to American Beauty, I never thought I would see them play this live. This was an emotional moment, and I must admit I have cried watching these Fare Thee Wells several times since. So this is it, no more.

Bill Walton sat in front of my wife and I at a show in Foxborough when they toured with Dylan and my wife loudly complained about the "tall guy in front of us". Bill kindly switched seats with us! Nicest guy!

There were five things from this encore. First was Bobby's introduction, "ten seconds of silence for those that aren't here". Second, this one of only two times that night where I felt that Trey was actually trying to channel Jerry, and he NAILED IT ! Third, as the band came down for their bow, you can see that Micky seemed to be telling Trey the same thing. Tour was that my little sister (she miracle me into the show) called the encore halfway through Sugar Mag. And finally, I had tears flowing from the third note on ! Brokedown has always hit me in the heart, but that night it just grabbed hold and wouldn't let loose. THANK YOU to the band and to ALL of the family that was there to make it such a special night !!!

Thank you soooooo MUCH for sharing this Travis!! Even with doing the Jan. 20th mail-order & being on two computers when the tickets were first sold, I never got my hands on a ticket. I toured from '90-'93 & then would hit up shows whenever possible. This song is one of my all-time top 5 that The Grateful Dead performed. Again, many thanks!! I'm sure you enjoyed the show! Peace, Love & Happiness...or Hippiness. (~);) ~Kate~

***** you could not have said it better. That little "miscue" at the end of Hell In a Bucket was the greatest thing I've ever seen, first Phil tries to go over to get his attention, even Bobby too then they were like "fuck it he's rolling" and they just ripped it a few more bars before going back to the verse. A fine moment and the one that stuck out for me the most.

***** My wife and I have been debating the final song of July 5th....she still thinks Brokedown (especially with the "Fare Thee Well" tie-in, it does make sense)....I think Box (can't see them avoiding the connection to the '95 show). I'm actually predicting a double-encore of Brokedown>Box of Rain to close things out on the 5th....we'll see :) If they pull that double encore and haven't played Box of Rain yet...imagine how loud Soldier Field will be in anticipation, with everybody knowing what's coming next? I get chills just thinking about it.

Doug Lynch It's actually part of why I love Bob singing Jerry's tunes ~ he actually inhabits them in a purely Bob way. With the emotion only someone who played it alongside Jerry all those years can bring.

btragal Ya, it turned out alright. I recorded it with my Galaxy S6 in case that helps anyone. Also, the video was pretty shakey (I have a broken shoulder and it was hard to hold up), so I auto-corrected the shakiness which I think caused some of the video issues you see here, but it's better than it was before I corrected for it.

Yeah it just would have been kind of cool to have it all "legit" and all so everyone could be as loud as they want about it. And for the atmosphere, but then again it's sort of tradition to freely smoke pot illegally at Dead concerts. Having it legal might have ruined the vibe.

Ben E Chicago was chosen for very specific reasons. It along with Alpine Valley have always been where West and East coast heads have met--where the national family came together. It was also the last show for Jerry, of course. Notice they started with the same song they left off with in "95: "Box of Rain", also very significant because of the very difficult losses among band members which were the seed for its creation and message of support and healing, but also because using it for an opener symbolically seals the never-ending wheel that is their musical journey, itself a symbol of love and life--it just keeps turning and turning. :)

Why are we supposed to care about Bill Walton's presence at this show? He's already ruined way too many basketball games with his overly-biased commentating. Now he gets to ruin a beautiful musical experience as well...?
