Thanks for posting these! People who attended any or all of these shows know just how special they really were. Exceeded my expectations by far. The music will never be the same without Jerry - but surely he'd want the music to live on no? I'm quite sure he wouldn't want everyone to just stop going and to boot constantly rag on those still enjoying themselves. Makes no sense. I spent the same money touring 25 years ago except my tix were $60 each instead of $25. Not bad really - and worth every penny to dance and sing with old friends (and new ones too!) The amazing vibe was equal to if not greater than any Grateful Dead show I'd ever been to (155!) I've never seen so many effing happy people - I'll never forget it . Best week ever!

I thought for sure jack straw would open the 4th of July show. I guess you never can predict the dead. They are the greatest band in American history.

@@davidbarnesjr1718 To a massive extent, I hear you! Just a glance at my avatar here for youtube would inform those in the know that I"m a huge Deadhead! They're my favourite band of all time (along with certain Miles Davis collections of musicians). They could do one thing wrong for me though...actually two things wrong. The first is called, "Samba in the Rain" and the second is called, "Lazy Lightening". Dude, as much as I utterly love the band, I HATED it when they'd play those two songs! Now as I listen to my concerts on my Ipod, I still have to fast forward through those two piles of hot Kardashian-sized toilet-pluggers.

This pretty much sums up what this whole event delivered: an incredibly hyped anticipation, backed with top-notch production of venue- lights, sound, video etc., great weather, great city already gleaming and bolstered with celebratory atmosphere of big holiday weekend-- and of course tens of thousands, who had individually invested hundreds to many thousands of their dollars, many of them who perhaps have experienced how this band used to be able to do all the things only they could, well now these folks want those sensations again and try very hard to reenact such-- regardless of how actually mediocre the music created here was blasted out. The GD without JG is really just a joke, this version of Jack Straw is a yawn with a trotting pace compared to the leaping gallops with guns blazing they used to put together some nights to blast their arrival

Dude, show some respect, do t you think Jerry was smiling down watching Trey step up and fill the void for the boys? For the fans? For the legacy... I was there on the 4th... Saturday, and I felt like Trey took the reigns - he wasn't trying to be Jerry. He was playing the songs just as he probably alway did on his own time while jamming along to live recordings... He shows ultimate respect in his approach, I personally never SAW jerry but I've studied so many recordings, the pizza tapes, old and in the way, JGB, LOM, weeks worth of Dead recordings... Sure it's not the same without the MAN, but his spirit was there bro.... And what would you expect the boys to do on the 50th anniversary? Just sit back and say "we wish Jerry was still here"? NO!!! They wanted to give the fans why they really deserved and they chose the absolute best candidate for that purpose, especially considering Trey was the guitarist who was "passed the torch" when Jerry died, the responsibility of "best live act" fell on treys shoulders in '95 when Jerry died and Phish tour blew up - Trey flourished and kept the show going for all those people. I grew up on late 90s Phish - born too late I suppose... But anyway, bro - show some love

Doubt JG would have supported such an event while he was alive. Based on his many interviews he said he would not have an opinion when he was dead, so cannot answer the question. He is on record saying Gold Records and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame mean nothing of substance. Gold records is awarded for making record companies lots of money. He did not attend or send wishes to the Hall of Fame. Read some of the books about him, watch the Weir movie, in particular the Kreutzman book is good - clearly JG was not for ticket gauging, or making lots of money for the sake of having money. The ticket prices, way the event was merchandised, and the way the organization has been run including Deb Koons managing JG music, is an insult to the principles and personality of JG. Of course he would be in favor of supporting his family and others, but the removal of live soundboards from archive.org? letting another company manage the rights to Dead material, especially the music? Doubtful.

dead to the core, I feel obliged to comment. this vid and these concerts sounded horrifically bad. sorry to pop anybodys bubble but if they thought this was anything close to representative of what the band was capable of or what a show was like they are mistaken. this is a mess. the sound. the geriatrics the ridiculous confusion.... not sure where to start. it was a bad idea and execution was in line with that

+Nick Daly I don't mind his vocals on this Jack Straw. Obviously nowhere near "great", but passable, in my opinion. Box of rain, franklin's tower were a different story though

yea phil normally didnt sing that particular part but on the early 1970's jack straw versions phil was essential for that particular song his backup singing made it have more feel and atmosphere I dig those early versions the most. but I agree phil doesn't have the singing chops anymore and tre singing that part would have worked a bit better.
