this performance turned me into a Phish/Trey fanatic. For years, I'd dismissed Trey as a "bad singer" and I couldn't get with Phish's "goofy lyrics". But for these shows, I laid my past thoughts behind and watched with open eyes, mind, and heart. Early on in the performance, Trey was obviously as enamored with the Dead's music as I had been, and approached this song with such joy, such love, and he flashed this incredible blissful smile. That smile and the joy from which it came, melted my cold stone heart and changed my attitude about him one and for all. And his stellar playing throughout the shows proved to me that he deserved his role in that band on that tour. So I surrendered to the flow..... and have a wonderful new world to explore.... after all these years.

I think the Dead is always going to remain a very special and influential band because their music lets honest musicians explore themselves in a way which recorded music often does not. I am a big Deadhead and I don't have the slightest difficulty imagining Jerry playing what Trey did. Jerry's gift is that he created a space which he defined, but instead of fortifying it, he left us infinite suggestions of what COULD be done. Grateful Dead's music = infinite possibilities

Jotting down the set list and making tapes of the shows we saw. Best years of my life. Mid 80s til Jerry's passing. I got lost for a sec. Lol Smoke you another one!! My point is I am glad to hear and see anyone do GD songs along as it is with respect. These boys are awesome. JM done as well as anyone. I just miss those days. Your sister from Tennessee. I do feel lucky to have seen ratdog and the fare thee well shows, it's better than no grateful dead music at all, future generations won't be able to see anybody from the dead. Even though I missed jerry, I feel lucky to have seen the other great musicians that I have seen. Hopefully the music never stops, god bless the grateful dead.

This is A childhood dream. He is getting very emotional. Joy and sadness and probably feeling everything everyone is feeling on top of what he himself is feeling and channelling. The twists the turns, new spins, old favs, loosey goosey on the verge of collapse and then MAGIC . This is what the grateful dead was to me. This is beautiful.

This was the moment I knew Trey was the right guy for the job. Only made it to the shows on 3rd and 5th, but it was enough to know that the legacy of the Dead was not only sealed, but strengthened, by the Fare Thee Well shows.

It took me a minute to realize this was from the Fare Thee Well session, but then I recognized those wonderful double drums and Phil. Loved the Santa Clara shows. What a combo of the two the two greatest "jam band" sounds, magic. And you can tell Trey is so thrilled to be there. Such a joy to see, as the official video just wouldn't cut to him during solos, I had to laugh. Some of that missing footage I wanted to see, showing Trey playing in the band, amazingly! It's giving me goosebumps. I'm playing it for a third time. That they all clicked so quickly, not everyone could just jump in there. Thank you for keeping the flame alive!!

I never thought I would see this happen. This tour. I think Trey gave great respect to Jerry in his playing... almost channeling him. I also think Trey was enough of himself as to no just be replicating Jerry. I feel like there was a nice balance.

Huge Dead fan here. Also love Phish and Trey. Nonetheless, was a bit skeptical. Boy was I wrong. The man has certainly done his homework, especially on Jerry's guitar style. Not that I'm saying he needs to imitate, but I thought he would sound too much like himself. Anyway, dude nails it. Wish I'd been there!

Yeah it's pretty safe to say Trey is having just about the best month of his life. Went from being the bane of the average deadhead's existence when he was picked to no one (even on the Internet!) can say a bad thing about him The Phish tour that starts in two days should be one hell of a good time. I honestly won't be surprised if they actually play a few Dead songs (haven't since Terrapin Station as an encore in 98 on the 3rd anniversary of Jerry's death, and maybe 10 years before that)
