The family tried to start a small cattle farm in 2000. We didn’t have very good luck. Drought, mad cow and hoppers shut us down. Always loved farming.

Little buggers. We sprayed ours but they are moving out of the neighbors now. More of a salvage mission now before they eat it. Hoppers are way worse than the drought itself. Starting to clean off crops that are beside grass and hay fields that weren’t sprayed west of us. Buddy is spraying his canola trying to save it. I sprayed polecki which is a contact spray where coragen I believe is more of a residual but costs a lot more. It was costing about 3.80 an acre in spray for polecki. Too late once they are flying though. That’s my experience anyway.

Yea that's what I read about Corrigan...it's like 1400 per jug and the bigger they are the stronger you need to mix...and it's harder to kill em

Same story here on the other side of the river. We've had a lot of drought and grasshoppers finished it off so we're looking at about 1/2 bale an acre on most quarters. Good thing we had some carryover bales from last year or it would be really bad shape.

Hey Tyson is it just cause of the dry spring that the grass hoppers are so bad. Does all of Aberta get them. Where we buy the 80 acres in Caslan looks pretty good for hay crop, that's what the old owner told me, I will come August 1st because we leave Ontario next Friday. Hopefully you get rain, we here in Coldwater have been getting pounded, the other day got 4 inches in 6 hrs. A lot of winter wheat is laying flat like you went over it with a roller. Take care

Grasshoppers are a pain ! I'm afraid you may have to spray anyway, If you don't they will mature and lay eggs and you'll have a much bigger infestation. Just my experience. Here they had to spray to kill aphids after first cut alfalfa, They eat it faster than it can grow.
