@@barneyshort8227 hard to get mad at what works. Lol 😆. I really like the 6 inch spacing. Helps close the canopy in quicker I think to trap moisture and help with weed suppression. Fertilizer is a pain in the butt though. Do a lot of spreading.

According to some research i read years ago the best row spacing for wheat is 5 inches. Hopefully your canola on the edges of where you missed the rows will grow big and bushy and help make up for the misses

I kinda prefer the 6" spacings for cereals , much better canopy and shading out weeds, but with the pre emergent herbacides kinda gotta be on 10-12" spacing otherwise get too much soil throw in to the furrow . Ive just got real old school stuff so have a 6" and a 12" machine . Some neighbours talk of 18' for canola , don't see it much thought

Would it be time & cost effective to change openers to single row for canola and paired row for your cereals? That is assuming you seed your canola last. I wonder as you are saying if it would be advantageous to spike or use vertical tillage in the fall on any fields to be seeded to canola the following spring? I have also wondered about compaction of fields as many have been zero tilled for decades as to how well rain is being absorbed and ability of plants to grow considering how hard the ground is.
