    An outstanding series for Serral and Reynor! I did not feel any frustrations on Reynor's end because the rate of his improvement is high I should say. It's just that Serral had way too many experiences comparing to Reynor that he had taken this championship. On this WCS cup, Reynor is my MVP. Hats off REYNOR!!!!! Congrats Serral on your 4th WCS Champioship! Awaiting for your reign in Blizzcon!

    Reynor is continually getting good for someone so young. I expect great things later. He seemed to play better than he did even not so long ago when we were saying very much similar things about him. Didn't expect him to take 3 off of Serral.

    The entire foreign scene has been having rapid unexplainable growth in skill.

  • @fakecubed

    @fakecubed

    5 жыл бұрын

    I don't think it's so unexplainable. For years, decades really, the foreign scene has been told again and again that the Koreans are invincible. Then foreigners started learning from the Koreans, how they practice, how they study, and started to try harder, and make some decent showings against them. I think with Serral winning GSL vs. The World, and just his dominance across the WCS, we're going to see foreigners all over the world saying to themselves "I can do that too if I work hard enough". There's nothing magical about being Korean that makes you good at Starcraft. They work hard, perhaps for a long time harder than anyone. But now foreigners are working hard too, and they sense that, through Serral's example, now is the time for the foreign scene to do well at Starcraft too. If Serral does win, or even just gets to the final series at BlizzCon, I think we're going to see a ton of new very good foreign players in Starcraft 2, young kids coming out of the woodwork from very unexpected places, and I think we're going to see an elite cadre of foreign Starcraft 2 players emerge who really up the level of skill to challenge that longstanding Korean dominance of the game. There will probably be some familiar names in that cadre, and probably some new ones too. That said, I'm sure the Koreans are going to work even harder, and start preparing better against foreigners, as they see this rise in foreign skill. There's a lot of pride at stake, and there's no doubt some big egos among the Korean pros who don't like seeing foreigners winning games against them. Again, I think a new elite cadre of Koreans, who are willing to work just that little extra bit harder, are going to emerge as well. Again, probably a mix of familiar names and new names among them. I think we're at the cusp of a revolution in the Starcraft 2 scene. This whole thing makes for a great story, and people love great stories. It will attract new talent, new fans, and sustain this game for years to come.

    1:04:08 I haven't seen Serral faltering like this before, and in the next game he failed his all-in attempt at 7 minute. he obviously did not seem to be at his best condition throughout this whole tournament. But then he calmed himself down, defended against Reynor for over 20 minutes(his hatchery had been destroyed over 5 times), continuously sent roaches to harass Reynor, and did all micro for his units and crawlers as he could, to finally turn over the game. And that decision to nydus in the final game. This win is very well deserved for Serral. And my best thanks to both players to show the best bo7 zvz series i've ever seen.

  • @fakecubed

    @fakecubed

    I think he may have finally felt the pressure. After winning GSL vs. The World, people have been talking about him in different terms, and while he always felt winning three WCS in a row was improbable, he definitely thought winning four was, and that's going to affect even an outwardly stoic player like Serral eventually. Plus, let's face it, ZvZ is pretty stressful. It's fast-paced, even the tiniest of mistakes can cost a game, and he had to play a LOT of ZvZ games to get to this final. Perhaps this just proves Serral is human after all. Hopefully he takes from this tournament many useful lessons, and his win gives him a greater sense of confidence having survived the gauntlet. He's accomplished a stunning amount of tournament achievements against some very good players, and he should feel very proud of that. He's left an indelible mark on the history of this game, and the way Zerg is played.

    Guys it is really hard to play at this level and micro so well. There is no surprise mistakes happen. Look at all hte micro in zerglings and banelings skirmishes alone. Most players can't do that alone. Now imagine behind that you have to macro as well.

    They are both amazing. Actually I couldn't decide which player to support, because I wanted Serral to win and be the first player to win 4 consecutive WCS, but also wanted for Raynor to go to Blizzcon. Also, I have noticed that Raynor mess up late game. He got such advantage in income/army more than once in this tournament and lot of times he fail to use it. I hope he mend it so he can be Serral succesor next year or two.

  • @adrianbundy3249

    @adrianbundy3249

    It's really simple on why he failed later. His bread and butter is always the constant harass, zergling runbys, etc. That can get him a lot of early leads when the other player doesn't play defense perfectly. But it also means that your specialty is not in large late game engagements and warfare. Raynor needs to develop more strategies; he did the same sort of game like in pretty much all of them, with some tweaks here and there - and that one time he went largely roach first and got zling speed late (unusual for him; but it backfired as we saw in that game).

    The mistake that really made Reynor lose that game (which the casters missed) is Reynor has way more resources to remax but he didnt do so right away, potentially he didnt have the larvae because he was multitasking to hard to inject. So when Reynor killed the base and didnt leave, serals remax was faster even though it would have been smaller if reynor just pulled back and spent all his resources but idk. Serral still had more drones but the slow remax was a huge mistake.

    The rest of the world was bound to start catching up at some point. It isn't like there is some sort of biological reason for Koreans to be better at video games. It is all about environment. As eSports becomes more accepted and popular in other countries, more resources and scouting will go into it and everyone will start producing better and better players. We can see it beginning.

    To me, it seemed like with whomever was popping into his booth in between rounds, serral was analyzing reynors base layouts and what not, and held that nydus push for the last game, gathering intel in the other games leading up to it, strengthening its chance to win at the end. Strategy, that is where serral dominated Reynor. Tactics, I think Reynor was the better, but his lack of experience, although he is shoring it up amazingly quick, proved to be the crack that Serral wedged open to win this. Serral may have indeed pulled the SC equivalent of a Triple (ahem...Quadruple) crown, but Next year, I'm going to be in camp Reynor. Next year he will put on a show that is truly and utterly spectacular.

    I love Game 1 and 6 because they're basically the same scenario, the win was achieved with the same decision, but with a different detail due to the size of the map and the time when the decision was made. In both cases Serral spots Reynor's Spire and he immediately decides to attack while Raynor's ground army isn't big yet and his Muta count low. However, he isn't in a place where he has other anti-air units, so he has to use his Queens, which are notoriously slow off creep, to support his ground army. Game 1. Serral sees the Spire at 15:26 and queues another 3 Queens. 15:37 he makes a creep tumor spawn forward and at 15:44 another two go down. 16:07 he only makes one creep tumor spawn forward, maybe he's thinking the Mutas are gonna show up and take it out, which does happen at 16:11, but he gets the cancel before they do. 16:21 the Mutas move north and he resumes spreading the creep, but now with both tumors cause he knows where they are. At 16:52 he's still moving those two tumors forward for his reinforcements. Game 6. The Spire is spotted at 1:49:01 and, again, more Queens are queued almost immediately. However, this time he sees the Spire way earlier and this map is bigger. Spreading creep via tumors to reach even just the middle of the distance in this map would take much more time than the map in Game 1. So, since he's got a bit more time, he decides to go for a Nydus.

    WOW!! Say what you want, Reynor the Kid gave it to Serral balls deep. I’ve never seen Serral up against the wall like that. He’s already terrorizing the main guy!! Reynor is going to terrorize this whole game in a year, or so.

    Reynor is definitely one to watch. This is a really exciting time for Starcraft 2. Foreigners everywhere are really working hard at the game and getting quite good at it. I think it's bringing a lot of new interest into the game as well. We'll probably see many new names in the next couple years inspired by the likes of Serral.

    nicegoodspeed1, true, but I’m talking about THE BATTLES. Sure, Koreans take games off of Serral, but it’s usually because Serral went with the wrong strategy to win out the gate. Those matches are over before they even begin. That can happen in any pvp. Reynor was OUTPLAYING Serral in the long game, straight up! Very different, and rarely seen!! Maybe Scarlett, Maru and TY recently, but those are Top 5 type players, and more “mature” than Reynor!! In some of those battles, he was giving Serral a beatdown!! Outtrading him. I don’t see that much against Serral.

    nicegoodspeed1, saw that game! Talk about a “Gouda one”... I’ve seen quesadillas with less cheese!! Winning is winning, but I’d rather see players win with better trades than trickery. Very clever, though. You have to know the maps better than your opponent to pull that off on the regular.

    I just want to add one thing : you don't know where the players ceiling is. Maybe reynor will be the best SC2 player ever next year, or he has hit his ceiling now. Prodigys come and go who are said to be the best and change the game. Yet there are only few who become so good, they belong in the hall of fame. I think reynor is amazing, and he has a bright future, but we don't know. You see college basketball players who are so good, that people say : man they are the next Michael Jordan. And 5 years later they aren't even playing NBA. It takes a lot to be the best. More than we know, and more than only skill :)

    The day will be incredible that Serral wins Blizzcon, on top of four WCS championships and GSL, *OR* a challenger eventually beats him in the grand final. Serral ought to retire then and make bank being a Star Craft instructor. I'd pay good money to be a student at the feet of this grandmaster.(Zerg) I'd pay good money too to Maru to improve my Terran.

    Serral isn't getting weak the other scenes are learning from him and improving their own game. Global finals won't be like GSL vs the world. Serral faced off against one foreigner, Innovation who is ranked 13th in Korea because he isn't even top 16 in the world, Dark 3-1, and Stats 4-3, where Stats started off 2-0. When talking about top players, it's very easy to lose 2 matches and get kicked out in the group stage. Instead of beating two top Korean players Serral will have to beat 5., there's an enormous difference. If the Korean standings stay where they are and TY and Gumiho go to Serral's bracket. Serral might not even get out of the first round. There's a lot of Korean pride on the line and I'm sure everyone is going to help Gumiho and TY to take down Serral. Special wants to know how to do it, Maru, Gumiho, TY, Creator, Cure, and others. If Serral wins Blizzcon that will prove he's the best in the world because the odds are stacked against him.
