Gran Turismo 7 on PSVR2 - An Incredible Racing Experience - DF Tech Review

Ойындар

It's the quality of the games that will make or break PlayStation VR2 - and launch titles supplied in the review period did not quite convince. Gran Turismo 7 was made available to journalists and public alike at the headset's launch - and it's a game-changer. In this video, John breaks down how good the VR upgrade is, and how Sony achieved it, with head-to-head comparisons with the standard 'flat' version of the game.

Too bad it’s muddy and blurry with a sweet spot for viewing that’s way to small. They really cheaper out on the lenses and it ruins the whole headset. Anything that isn’t directly front and center is blurry, full of godrays arching towards your eyes or has a sickening amount of chromatic aberration. Like seriously try focusing on any part of the dashboard in the car. Even the speedometer is blurry and hard to read looking directly at it.

@@ancientflames looks pretty good to me for the cost. There is blurring around the 90° to 110° viewing angle for sure but there's always a give and take to the lenses. As far as I know, all VR headsets use Fresnel lenses with the exception of the $2,000 Varjo that uses aspheric lenses and there's one that uses pancake lenses I believe. Each of them have their own advantages/disadvantages. Weight, dulling of image, cost, narrow view, or needing to be custom to the users eye. If cost isn't a concern you could have some custom aspheric lenses made and install them yourself which I looked into a bit but for optical quality plastic lenses they are around $1,000 per lens, glass is more expensive and heavier. Might be worth it though if you're an enthusiast. For me, for less than $600, I think it's pretty great.

@@scarface11991 and much less impressive/less incentive for people to buy PSVR2. why get PSVR2 if you can play all your favorite games on the flat screen as well? also designing a game and then porting it to VR or vice versa always leaves it marks. games like Horizon call of the mountain or Half Life Alyx simply wouldn't work without VR (or they would be boring) and conversely games like RE8 are never as good at being VR games as games designed for VR from the ground up. everything from visuals to gameplay balance needs to be different for a flat screen game and a VR game. (racing games kind of being the exception here) again that's not to say they shouldn't make these VR ports at all as it is a pretty low cost/risk way to expand the library and there's definitely some cool experiences to be had. You can look around everywhere and things look almost real. You have to look up to see things above you. The enemies are life sized and look like they are actually stood right in front of you. Even on my 7 year old SONY 4K TV. Because lets face it, PSVR2 is good but it feels more like 720p in the distance in GT7 for example up to maybe 1440p in showroom close ups. But that's the software side of it, the PS5 just can't handle more pixels, remember it has to render two images and more frames. I’m absolutely loving GT7 in VR, it’s such an improvement over PSVR1 and GTSport. I hardly ever played Sport in VR, much preferred playing on flat screen but I don’t think I’ll ever play GT7 on flat screen again. Being able to see exactly where other cars are is incredible and the first time I looked out of the right window to see if I was far enough in front of another car to turn in, my jaw dropped when I saw it still along side me with the front discs glowing. ❤this game in VR

To achieve the ps5+psvr2 level of performance in a pcvr headset would cost two or three times the cost of a ps5-psvr2 VR system, and at the moment there is no pcvr headset with oled-hdr displays, eye tracking, foveated rendering and haptics, if there was someone would be asking a lot of money for it, and the psvr2 is plug and play no setup or driver issues to contend with, I think this whole Sony VR system is extremely cheap for what it brings to VR gamers, and it is still only early days, as developers get used to programming vr games we will see even better vr games.

I was terrible at driving in this game. In particular the cockpit view. But driving in VR is absolutely perfect. I’ve been driving for decades in the real world and it’s remarkable how much it feels like you’re really behind the wheel. And that real world skill has made it easier to navigate and drive in this game. It’s that spot on.

But if you play on a 4K TV normally it still does look waaay less sharp in VR of course. It does look worse in the headset than in the recording. Don't get me wrong..it's still great but it's nowhere near as sharp as on a TV...and I'm very sensitive too something like the mura effect. It's very hard for me to ignore that.

I love the comparisons to the flat versions! It doesn't really matter they're not perfectly aligned, that's totally understandable due to the nature of VR. It's whats being said during these comparisons what I really look forward to in these videos. Hopefully we see coverage for Resident Evil Village and No Man's Sky too (The latter is said to look like a PS VR1 game, which is interesting since the PS VR1 game supossedly ran at 720p on a base PS4)

2:28: That's so cool. Well done, developers. That kind a user-friendliness is key when bringing relatively new technology to the masses. Nice review! I started with GT7 on VR2 this weekend. Before I didn't really like the realistic racing games, as i could not get any feeling of speed or experience driving, and therefore i found this games boring. Now with VR2, for me this has totally changed. I am addicted now and can't stop going to beat my times over and over again. Everything feels so realistic, the difference between driving different cars is so big. At first I found it strange that after VR1 PlayStation invested in a second VR. But now i know why, i really believe this can be the future. GT7, and Horizon CO Mountain are for me big steps in to the new possibilities with games. Thank you Sony for bringing this experience to me ❤

John Linneman, in another video you were talking about sound and headphones. You said, that is possible to use one’s full fledged home cinema sound setup via AVR. I started to play SW stories a little bit and tried to use my AVR which is connected to the PS5, but whenever I put on the headset, the AVR option is greyed out. I even unplugged the nie ears from the headset, but still no AVR 7.2.2 sound…

GT7 in VR is a system seller in my opinion, but only if you tried it, otherwise you won't know how awesome it is. It's transformative, I'm not even a big racing game fan, but this is just too much fun. My only issue is that my eyes feel strain and aren't relaxed, so after about 1h, I need to take a break, but I would want to keep playing haha. This eye strain happens to me on all the VR headsets I've tried.
