Gran Turismo 7: Incredible Race in Rainy Conditions
Ойындар
An absolutely incredible race I had in round 4 of the manufacturers season. Using the BMW M4 Gr.4 car around High Speed Ring.

Using the outside line at High Speed Ring leaves you feeling a different kind of high when you actually pull it off. Kind of like a race at Darlington Raceway
@YT_timekiller001
2 жыл бұрын
Yep, but it can get quite difficult in the wet. In my first race it was light rain from start to finish, and towards the end of the race the non-racing line parts were getting too wet for the intermediate tires to handle. So then it was a bit of a gamble which line to take. Even though it got more difficult to control it was still the faster line, but with a higher risk.
@TheSpencer1000
2 жыл бұрын
@@YT_timekiller001 I thought the game has dynamic grip on the wet tracks making the racing line drier, but in this race shouldnt the high line have been drier then the lower line on that bank? After all not only is that the more common racing line for the race, but water generally drains downhill. Is the grip dynamic only in the since of different weather dynamics and not effected by actual racers?
@YT_timekiller001
2 жыл бұрын
@@TheSpencer1000 My guess is that, while there is dynamic weather, the change of surface water/grip level is not dynamic (in the sense that it is done using the lines of all cars racing) but using a fixed line instead. In this case, that line is not in the correct position to what people actually use, which is why it is so different. I imagine this is to save computing resources. In normal corners this would not be an issue as all cars are using the ideal line normally.

I get the concept of it but still sit here in my amateur thought process wonderng wtf is going on? JUst doesn't feel right watching it hahaha
The sections of the track which appeared to dry a bit as the race progressed didn't seem to marry up with the lines which the cars were taking. The high line around the final banked corner was soaking, yet the lower line close to the apex was dry, even though hardly anyone took that line. Unless everyone else in the race was taking that line and we didn't see it. Weird anyway.
@TrolledBy

I suppose it's the predetermined racing line that dries up, and the game does not actively follow the actual line players are taking

Actively calculating a dry line with 16+ players would take a lot of computing resources, which I doubt they have easily available on consoles. Also, on normal corners this would not even be that obvious, when all cars are taking the ideal line anyway. But I guess it would be an easy fix to change the position of line that's drying up in this case

Great race Steve. I also finished this race in 2nd with IM tyre. Starting Pole position, then down to 9th place, and gained back to 2nd. Truly a unique race in a dynamic weather condition. I had the same issue on turn 1 where I lost the grip and bang to the wall with penalty (3 times!!!), then I realized I had to follow the dry line and turn early to avoid this issue. Looking forward for tonight race in Tokyo expressway in mfr cup under wet condition again. 😎
Lagging backwards was a very odd strategy by the GTR, I could see him becoming a formidable opponent if he can do that forwards instead
Good, clean, respectful racers testing each other and learning from one another ( coz i'm sure Nathan went over that replay himself to see where he was strong and weak). The goals always gonna be the win but in a race like this then the experience gained takes that sting out the tail of not get highest step on the podium
It's great to see brilliant honest fair racing...Well done Steve!
I always preferred arcade racing games over simulators. Gran Turismo 7 is the first one that changed my opinion. I think it is probably the best racing game I ever played, and I’m even starting to like cars and real races much more because of it. The technicality, the fight for seconds, perfecting a line, a curve exit, memorizing the tracks. I only got this level of competitive fun in fighting games or FPS. But now I’m starting to become a fan of real racing because of this game. Some months ago I would never imagine myself watching this channel, and enjoying this amazing race and commentary while learning from it. And people compare Gran Turismo 7 to Forza Horizon… both great games, but completely different things. Completely! And one can only start to understand it, and appreciate the masterpiece GT7 is after starting the Sport mode, and at least studying it a little it. Amazing game, nothing like it. Amazing video. For competitive FPS we have Counter Strike. For fighting games we have Street Fighter. For racing we have the king Gran Turismo.
That was an enjoyable race to watch after a hard day of work. Thanks!
I just love your content. Thank you Steve!
I managed to have my first win on manufacturer series , on this rainy race, i was so happy. Great content as always Steve !
Absolutely fair play to you both great driving and the atenza in p3 well done 👏
Great to see the varying levels of grip across the track width as the rain stops and a dry line develops... seems also keeping the inters cool by driving through the wet line makes them last longer too as they start to wear from over heating

Races like this actually draw a lot of parallels to why Nascar racing can be exciting to watch. While yes being able to brake and have good runs off tight turns with different apexes takes a ton of skill, I'd argue it takes just as much skill judging which lines are best for every corner. Wide banked turns show this more than any in my opinion and that's why I watch Nascar just as much as any other form of racing. Takes a lot of skill to drive those tough to handle cars around a lot of those tracks when they're very close to one another while also trying to pick lines and judge runs.
i found out you can zoom out in the weather radar (using mfd buttons on the wheel) to get a better range and choose tyres accordingly
I’m in love with this upload schedule
damn looking at the map there, that dude at the end was struggling so much, slipping and sliding, i would've disconnected too lmao
I'm no where near as quick as you but interesting to see the rain equalises ability as I set similar times. I was also leading a race by 3 seconds, pitted for hards as the track was drying out and finished 8th.. threw it away, but that's where I qualified🤷♂️
Just finished iftar”fast breaking meal” So this is literally the perfect time for a video
Great racing! I had chosen Toyota for my manufacturing contract & it just did not bode well for me. Couldn’t get past 5th due to the lack of straight line speed in the Supra.
Great race. Awesome video.
Steve when are we going to see you again :
I love how the BMW driver at 14:19 turns on his left turn indicator to let super gt know that he should overtake him
Great race Steve. Just thinking that the green paint in Grand Tourismo must be really special. Usually water and paint equals an extremely slippery surface.
Excellent race, excellent commentary :)
I love to see a track with high, variable-banking corners in this game. It changes the way you would normally approach a corner, and you can really pull a card from the NASCAR Cup Series in how to pass someone in the preferred outside line. You basically have to take a narrow line going in and overdrive the corner and allow the car to slide up to the outside wall. The only thing I wish was more prominent in GT7 is dirty air. With all those big wings and splitters, you'd think it would have a significant effect. I'd love to see the rock, paper, scissor game that is the lead car trying to take the chasing car's line into the turn to reduce the chase car's downforce and compromise their speed through the turn.
