Great video segment!!! I'm a lover of this vintage Ford!!! I had a 1972 base Torino 2dr in 1989-1991 with the 302 2v. Had 159k on the odo when it was sold to me for $1. Drove it 2 years, only repair I ever did was a rear brake line. Loved that car SO MUCH, in 1994 purchased a 1976 Cougar XR7 with the 351. NC car brought to NH. Hands down rhe nicest car I'd ever owned. Lovingly restored it over a 14 year period. Black on black, buckets, console and still had gorgeous factory black paint when sold in 2009. Truth be told, I sold it to pay for a divorce and cried all the way home. Some gems you never get back.

That's does suck...trust me I know how it is to miss what you had to let go, BUT think of it this way Joe, memories are Priceless and no one can ever take them away I'm guessing your like me who smiles inside n out everytime you think back to your time with your favorites _(the cars not the Ex lol)_ and again that's worth a million!! When I was in my teenage I had an older friend that had a Starsky And Hutch replica. It had a 460 in it. He replaced the basic black interior with a red leather one from, a Cougar XR7. It was a good looking car with pretty good power for the time. We all liked riding in it because we got a lot of attention. Good times!

You should have mentioned the Gran Torino wagon. My aunt and uncle had one and it's been a long time since I've seen one on the road but it did exist...

Yup! I'd ridden in a few of them myself, mom and dad had a '75 or '76 Gran Torino wagon in Canary Yellow with black interior and 351 Cleveland V8. Dad HATED that car mainly because of the shockingly bad gas mileage as bad as 8 mpg and also reliability issues, though looking back I think that was because his then-coworkers helped him remove the cat-con and other emissions controls and more than likely they did it wrong so it ran hot and ran badly. But as a kid I loved it, the Torino was very comfortable with ice cold factory AC and plenty of room in the back compared to other cars I'd been stuck in, and ours had the folding rear seats and a small 3rd row folding rear-facing seat so even with 6 or more people in the car I never had to be sitting stuck in the middle between two people! Or for longer trips fold all the rear seats down and just nap in a sleeping bag LOL! One other thing they could've mentioned, while the Torino name was killed off after '76, the platform itself was around a little longer, with the Ford LTDII, Mercury Cougar and Ford Thunderbird sharing this platform through about '78-'79. Heck the LTDII wagon was pretty obviously the same car with not much in the way of the body changed other than the front grill and such.

My Pop had a Torino station wagon back in the 70s... it was a company car. Gorgeous baby blue paint. He loved that car. Being a company vehicle, after trade in cars were available to the other employees for purchase. His cars always brought in top dollar because of how he maintained them. Man... those were the days. I'd climb in the back, lay down and look up through the rear windows watching the clouds pass by. I need a time machine. 😢

I think he forgot to mention that the 1972-1976 models also were remade into the 1972-1976 Ford Ranchero models, the only reason I came here was because of my 1975 Ford Ranchero Gt because it follows the Grand Torino in almost every aspect and this is very reliable to this day to be a hard working car that still has enough power to keep pushing after every day of labor is done.

Bought my 1975 ranchero 2 yrs ago not the greatest model but the 500 with the 400cid. I love the rust spots and body lines. Every were I go folks love it. Putting a lunati boo soo cam into now

The Starsky & Hutch Torino was the one I grew up with. I heard at the time that the engine sound was dubbed on because the actual sound wasn't muscular enough. I don't know if this was true or not though. Thanks for another great trip down memory lane.

yes it was sound effects .. main reason was the EPA laws in California. glass packs on a ford v8 sounded great ... that is what i put on my 78 LTD2

I had a 1973 Gran Torino Sport!! It was beautiful. Medium Blue Metalic With A White Vinyl Top. The first time I saw 72 Gran Torino I was in love. They are such beautiful cars. My 73 had no rust and was in perfect condition when I sold it. I regret that. I have a 72 now that needs restoring. BEAUTIFUL CARS!

I had a 72 Grand Torino sport coupe, champaign silver white vinyl top with the yellow to red Lazer strip with the 351 4v cobra jet,I loved that car...that's the one I regret getting rid of

I’d love one of those. I had a Buick Skylark GS 400 and was looking for a Gran Torino and couldn’t find one! I would love a 429 BOSS with Starsky/Hutch paint job. Or just British Green

Yes, the 429 was available in the '70s for the Torino and Gran Torino. But the 429 shown at 2:50 is a Boss '9 engine and not available stock in 1972 FoMoCo products.

My first car was a 74 Mercury Montego MX. This was the Mercury equivalent to the Gran Torino. It had a few upgrades and it’s own Grill and trim to set it apart from the Fords. It was a very good looking car.

My parents owned a 1976 Gran Torino Station Wagon Root Beer brown with tan interior. I grew up riding in the back of that car.

there was a guy from a nearby town that had the Starsky & Hutch Torino. I think it had the 400 2v, It's still around, pretty rusty, buy still rollin, a legend to this day.

My dad had a 1973 grain Torino sport fast back and he still got it to this day

My dad had a 72 Gran Torino 2 door with the 351. Brown with a white vinyl top. It was not a bad car, it was one of the first cars that I drove. Kinda sporty for an American car of the early 70's. I think the 72 Gran Torino was much better looking than the later models with the larger, rectangular grille. Usually dad was a Buick (LeSabre) or Oldsmobile guy ...the Torino was the only 2 door I remember him having.

I had both a 1971 Torino 500 (302 Automatic Medium Yellow Gold , the color of rich butterscotch pudding and a full Vinyl Black Roof) and a 1975 Gran Torino *Yes, the Starsky & Hutch paint job* and the 351 Cleveland engine (Later was replaced by a Crown Vic 460 Police Interceptor engine, my doing) Currently sitting out the winter in a storage building, next to my 1961 Dodge Dart Police Cruiser.

i just bought a 76 Gran Torino that I'm customizing into a starsky and hutch tribute car. i had been looking at then and never really thought id get my hands on one until it was on my trailer. Now I cant wait to drive it!.

No mention of Clint Eastwood's "Gran Torino?"

The Gran Torino sold comparatively well in Denmark, as did the Ford Ranchero for tax reasons. In 1983-4 I drove a 1974 Ford Ranchero GT and in 1997 a 1975 Gran Torino Brougham. They resembled much my very first car, a 1975 Mercury Montego MX, which I drove from east to west in the US in 1980.

@@metalox88 Yes. The size came in handy. From the mid sixties till after the early 1970's Buick Skylark was quite popular. Seemed like the Gran Torinos matched that.

Both my aunt and late uncle each owned a 1974 Ford Gran Torino Elite, my uncle's was brown with tan interior,my aunt's was a reddish pink with red vinyl interior. Rode in both, loved them.

My Parents had a 75 Mercury Montego 2 door while my Aunt had a 75 Gran Torino sedan, both the same brown color. Both cars were beautiful and rode great. My Grandparents had a 77 Mercury Cougar sedan. Thanks for this video it brought back a bunch of memories!

Thanks for posting this one when I was 6 years old my dad got my mom for their anniversaries a 1975 Ford Torino cherry tomato red and we called it big red and we got a big kick out of the fact that Starsky and Hutch had one it was the only difference was it had the White Stripes we had him for many years he was given to my cousin who killed him back in 1992 rip Big Red

A good friend of mine had a 1973 Gran Torino wagon. It had a 351 Windsor. We called it the Dragon Wagon!!!

My first car was a 1976 Ford Elite. I still have it 33 years later. It came new with a 460, a power moonroof, auto temp controls, AM/FM 4 speaker, 8 track stereo. A full gauge cluster, and of course, cruise control and tilt steering. I still to this day, love my Ford Elite. 9:09 9:09

Great video. I learned alot about the Gran Torino I didn't know. Every yr Torino was a good looking car.

In 1969, a friend and I hitch hiked From Connecticut to Burlington, Vermont so he could see his girlfriend, who recently moved there. On the way home we hitched a ride (5:30 AM) in a Ford Gran Torino, recently purchased by the driver. We were 15 year old kids and were super impressed with the car. The car was a 429 SCJ and REALLY moved! This guy noticed the cop lights and, after pulling over, got a speeding ticket. Swearing and bitching, this guy really poured the gas pedal down and was going about 110 mph and, you guessed it, got another ticket For Misconduct with a Motor Vehicle! Out of all the hitch hiking we did back in the day, this was the most memorable ride I ever hitched, the best car, the wildest ride, the type of experience one remembers for the rest of one's life! The car was two tone, red and white. I hope the guy held on to that car!

Interesting information. I know someone who had a Ford Torino. They sadly are no longer with us. They had the four door sedan that was the same color as the 1975 model in this video. I have seen loaded Gran Torino. I remember people owned this car back in the day. I know someone who had one from the early 1970's too. It was before the 1973 model. It was green just like the one in the video. This car was like the Taurus of its time. I was not a fan of the Elite. I hated the front end. It is interesting in 1977 Ford used the Torino and turned it into LTD II and the car was the basis for the 1977 Ford Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar. Thank you for the great video work and the look back.

72 is my favorite, although I do like 74, 75, and 76. 73 and all the Elites don’t light my fire.

I love the styling especially the coupes.

In 1978, I bought a used 1974 Gran Torino 4-door sedan w/a 351, white exterior with black vinyl top, blue interior. Very nice car, it was a trade in at Downey Ford.

I had a 1974 Mercury Montego MX. Great car, lots of power and floated at 90 mph. Fun car to drive.

My first car was a 72 Gran Torino Sport that I bought with lawn mowing money when I was 15. It was in rough shape and I spent more time under it or under the hood than driving it but not a week goes by that I don't miss her. Engine code was for 351 W but had a 302 in it when I bought it. That engine threw a rod and I put a 351M out of a 75 tbird(back when you could grab an engine from a classified ad for under 200 dollars) and...well this is already long, so yeah, thanks for the video!

My dad had a 76 grand Torino. I got my license in it. I got to drive it to school because he car pooled. It was such a fun car to drive. It was a two door and kind of a orange brown color.

My brother had a 1973 Gran Torino Sport in high school (1980's) it had the Big Block V8 429cu.in.

Great video as always, I never knew about the base Torino. I was introduced to the Gran Torino in the 2008 movie Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood.

One of my aunts had a yellow Gran Torino. I rode in that car and I enjoyed it. I would love to find a good used one to drive now.

I had a base model that may have been a police car..Loved the high seats and the ride was fantastic..72model

My first car when I was (1994) 15 was a solid 75 Gran Torino, blue in color w/the 351W. I managed to hold onto that car for 25 years and sold it a couple of years back to a kid who’s done so much to it. I’m happy knowing it’s in good hands now.

Are you sure it wasn't the 351M? I thought the M became standard in 75.

I've owned two Torinos in my life. The first one was a 1970 Torino GT , nice powerful 351cu. in. rust bucket. The next was a 1971 2dr. sedan with Fairlane badging, 429 cu. in. C6 automatic transmission. Again a fast and powerful rust bucket. The more rust you fix, the more you find. I still love the cars. Even though, on a quiet Virginia moon lit night you can still hear the faint sound of a Torino rusting.

I had a 1972 Ford Grand Torino Sport. The paint was metal flaked gold with the reflective stripe down the sides. It had the 351 Cleveland engine. Loved that car! I traded it for a pickup truck, which I needed at the time. The owner of the small used car lot where I traded thought he was a car painter. His favorite color was shit brown and he painted ALL of the cars on his lot that color, including the pickup truck that I had traded for and my once beautiful metallic gold Torino. I about cried when I saw what he had done! More than any car I ever owned, I wish I had that one back!

I had a 1976 Gran Torino wagon Blue over blue with the luggage rack, very dependable low maintenance car 400 m engine and auto trans great on the freeway going to work and back.

Recently saw one of the S&H star cars at the Petersen Museum. Base gen 2 Torino is the first car I ever drove!!!

A friend of mine in college had the Starsky and Hutch replica. He LOVED that car. One night a drunk driver plowed into it on the street and totaled it.

Gran Torino, the Starsky & Hutch car :-) during late 70s, Mazda also made a 1.8 liter 929 whose front end noticeably resembled the Torino's front and many people got that distinctive white line painted on their red 929s to get that popular tv-series-car's appearance.

My brother Bill had a Gran Torino Sport maybe a 1973? Slightly jacked up in the back with wide mag wheels and tires. A massaged 351 under the hood. That was fast car in the late70's. I only got to ride in it a couple times.

I purchased a Gran Torino in 1972 when I was discharged from the army. 351 Windsor . Green. Had it Z Barted to prevent rusting.. in 1976, another driver smashed into me while I was parked. A very sad day. A great car.

1st car. 1972 Gran Torino with the optional 351 and with AC. I had no paint problem, or any major issues. Now, I miss it.

The Starsky & Hutch edition from what I understand were all built at Fords Chicago assembly 130th & Torrence avenues on Chicagos south side

My first car was a 1976 Gran Torino loved it never had any problems with it, I gave it to a cousin, it had a 351 Cleveland 4 Barrel great car.

I had a ‘73 base Torino 4-dr with the 400-2v as my first car. I can verify the rust issues these cars had.

We had a 72 country squire with the 351w. My dad traded a mint 71 opel manta for it!!!!!! The Torino was a tank. Ours was purchased in Massachusetts but really wasn't rusty nor did the paint or wood decals peel. The transmission blew on our first day with it. After that I cannot remember having any problems with it. Except that gawd awful seat belt buzzer I'm surprised u didn't mention. It was traded for a 78 thunderbird . Wire wheels t tops and a filled in rear qtr window. It was great.

I had a 74 Gran Torino 2 dr at the same time that my dad had a 76 Gran Torino 4dr. This was early '80's in northern VT. Mine was red with white vinyl roof and interior with 150k on a 302, his was light green with dark green vinyl roof and dark green velour interior with 70k on a 302. I loved mine and wanted his. He's a Dodge man and hated his and sold it before I could get it. Both were rust free and great in the snow.

I had a 77 LTD with a white stripe like that and a 351 Cleveland Great cars

My buddy in high school had a Starsky and Hutch Gran Torino! It was a real eye turner (including the cops). I sure miss those cars of the old days. Cars suck today. "$4200" I'll take TEN of them CASH right now! If I had a time machine that's exactly what I would do. 1974 here I come!

My parents had a ‘74 and it was an ok car. They bought it used but it got us from point A to point B and it hardly needed repairs and was low maintenance so it was pretty solid.

As mentioned briefly in the video, early '70s Torinos were rust buckets as were many other vehicles of that era. A fellow worker bought one new in '72 and within 3 years, the Canadian winters had taken their toll. Rust holes had appeared on the fenders. The dealer tried to repair the damage but that lasted only a short while.

Yup.By the mid 80's only a few survived and most of them were nothing but rust buckets.

I love the Starsky & Hutch Torino...the 1972 looked like a 4 eyed catfish from the front...Lol!

Actually the biggest and best improvement to the 72 was the body on frame construction. 72 was the best year as following years were hampered by regulations but most of them can be overcome with a little work.

A friend of mine in the 1980s had a silver Gran Torino. I think it was a '76 model. It looked like a big car to me. Had the big-car, mushy power steering and was as smooth as a boat going down the road. If you ran over an object in the road, you'd likely never know it, lol.

I have a 73 grand torino sport. I love it with the 351 Cleveland and automatic on the floor bucket seats Had one when I was 19 now I have one again best car

My first car was a 1974 Gran Torino Blue with a Blue Vinyl top 302 with a 4 barrel carb wish i could have it back I really miss it

My granfather bought a new Gran Torino in 1974. Ran it till around 1980 and wanted to trade it in but wouldnt get much for it. I said to just keep it in the shed. It gets a few stares when it gets driven . It was not easy on gas even with the 351W 2bbl.

I've never been a fan of Fords. But they've got a few cars that I like and some features and build qualities are better than others

When I was in 6th Grade, my parents bought a new 76 white Torino coupe with blue interior. It had the 351. I think the 351M became standard in Torinos in 75. It came with the bottle caps, but Dad sprung for the full wheel covers.

My first car was a 74 base Torino I bought with my after school job in 76. Had it for 10+ years followed by a 75 and 76 owned simultaneously through the 80s and into early 90s. Were generally reliable cars and rusting was no worse than average for cars of the era driven in Illinois winters

Bought a brand new 76 silver two door off the lot for $4600 . Added a black starsky stripe and slotted mags. It was a head turner

Love the Gran Torino

I had a green Gran Torino with a vinyl roof. I bought it used when I was twenty years old in the 1970s ( I can't remember the dates). I thought it looked good, but it was underpowered, and living in Gloucester, MA, when the damp weather and rain came, it refused to start, and the mechanics could not track down the problem? Finally, I was T-Boned driving when a drunk ran a light totaling my car. I took the money and went backpacking through Europe.

My best friends Mom had one. in Junior High i.e. 9th Grsde she let us go cruise Main St in Farmington NM. It had the 351 but I don't remember what year it was. I'm 14 didn't know what a great car it was. We cruised main, did burnouts and had a great time! I'm 57 now and can't forget the Torino and Main St Farmington NM!

Back around 1990 my Buddy had a 72 with a gas sucking 351. to us at the time it was considered a junk beater. Those engines were actually pretty durable.he unknowingly drove it for weeks with only a qt of oil in it.untill it started acting funny- no power.we pulled over & I checked the oil.barely anything on the dipstick.we added some oil & it ran fine with seemingly no damage.

I still remember my first ride in a 1974 Gran Torino. I thought it had that prolonged buzzer as in 1973, but found out later that it had that stupid seat belt interlock system in it!

My first car (1975) was a 1972 Gran Torino Sedan with the 351 Cleveland 2-V carburetor. Not a powerhouse, but a comfortable ride, and the envy of my friends, who could afford little or nothing. I miss those bench seats (my wife, then girlfriend) saw the front and back seat all the time!) I ruined the moron by not maintaining it, but traded for a 1976 Torino Limited Edition Coupe. it was a special order package with silver finish, red interior, special mag wheel covers and opera windows w/half vinyl roof. Nice care, but lacked the power of the 9172, due to all the weight and sapped-out 351 Windsor 2-V.

Had a friend who had a canerie yellow Gran Torino station wagon. 3 on the tree original owner.. worked for Boeing .. laid all the carpet lights on all 747 ,757 ,767..always think of Jerry when I fly.. passed away some years back.. what a car !!! 351 Cleveland... under the hood..

Flew in the Pacific War afterwards worked for Boeing all the years retired and lived out his days on Orcas Island WA. the car was sold for 800$ when he passed.. what a bargain... a runner for sure. Drove it always ... probably still on the Island hopefully...

Dad & I had a 1974 pea green 2 dr from 1986-89, very reliable car, 351W 2v. Had axle whine which sounded ominous, checked by trans shop & they said just a wheel bearing, cheap fix!

I'm fixing to restore a 68 Torino fast back. My parents had a 73 montego MX Brogham 4 door And we took it to Germany when my dad got stationed there in 73 it was bought brand new.

I can’t remember the year, but back in high school ( 90’s) a kid I knew had a cobra jet Torino.

My very first car was a 1975 Gran Torino coupe. A crazy woman once blew a stop light and hit us in a Volkswagen Bug and she must have been going 45 mph. Not only did me and my friend not get a scratch, I got the door bumped out and painted and it drove like it never had been hit.

I used to see some gran torino just like the one you would see in the show starsky and hutch

we had a 74 2door and a 76 4 door very good cars

My uncle bought one of the first stand alone model Elite, good looking car, dark blue with white vinyl top and interior. Fast forward 4 yrs, the car had rust about 10” up from the bottom of the car, it literally rotted in a few winters of salt use
