Engine Swapped Ford Gran Torino hasn't been driven in 20 years: Will It Run?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
It may be winter in Northern Michigan, but that won't stop Davin and Jeff from trying to resuscitate this 1972 Ford Gran Torino with a 429 Cobra Jet. It's been sitting for years and has definitely seen better days, but that's just the way we like to find them. The only question left is, will it run?

That car is screaming for some loving. The interior looks mint, rust free!
Worth to be saved and restored back to life

I'd say the odds are 100% if it gets neglected.
I've been in love with the 72 Torino since I was 8 years old. I've been looking for just the right one for a few years now. As soon as I get my hands on it, it's never leaving.
Hey guys, my grandmother was real appreciative that y’all came out. Hope you guys had fun doing it.
My very first car was a 71 Gran Torino, 351 Cleveland,, 4 Barrel, 4-speed, dual exhaust. Triple green just like this one. Bring back great memories
Would definitely like to see more on this one, a really good candidate for a restoration.
Fantastic “will it run” video. Thank you for this great content with magnificent cars. This Gran Torino definitely needs to be brought back indoor ASAP.
Fantastic fun video and great personal backstory. My godfather's son (who I saw infrequently) had a '71 Torino with a 351C and a Hurst 4-speed. I was 13, he was probably 26. He gave me a ride in it, tires smoking and sideways as he made a left hand turn/merge onto a 55 mile an hour road. Made me a car fan for life! By the way, I could feel the cold watching y'all work.

Makes me feel cold just watching this
Love this series! You two work really well together, trouble shooting by bouncing ideas off of each other, well done.

I did too!
Thanks for sharing, My cousin had one of these with the 351 Cleveland motor, we used to ride around town on Friday and Saturday nights we actually was pulled over by the police for drag racing with this car, my uncle was pissed to say the least! my cousin was grounded from driving the car after court and $500 in fines for about 6 months, we wasn't laughing then although makes for a good laugh now at family get togethers!
It's spring 80° and yall are making me feel cold!!
I do love the concept of "Will it run"... one of my favorite series' Davin has been in... I may be biased. Also, .the chemistry between Davin and Jeff is pretty cool... the back and forth that happens naturally.

I’m with you totally. They compliment each other nicely! The laughs are also appreciated 😂
The expertise + the humor + the comradery with Jeff & Davin is PERFECTION! 🥶
You guys must please do a series about restoring her. I'm sure her owner who's upstairs would be smiling the whole time.
What a cool memory for you being a 16 year old in that car!
One of the best looking cars Ford ever built
Just watched the movie Gran Torino not long ago, then this video pops up!

Awesome movie 🎥
It was a miserable day. Fun video. Thanks Davin and Jeff.
Good one, again, chaps!
That looks exactly like my first car! Right down to the color and vinyl top. Of course I could only dream of a 429. Mine featured a worn out 351W.
I sold mine in 2015 after I got sick and couldn't do anything with it, anymore. Same color, same(ish) shape. I owned it for 25 years and I miss it, sometimes but, I know it went to a good home.

@@joshuagibson2520 genetic chronic illness that requires constant medical attention and frequent surgeries to patch holes and remove necrotic tissue as it develops. As you can imagine, I no longer have the ability to squat, crawl, lever, lift, heave and/or ho.
Davin and Jeff are turning out great episodes on Hagerty’s Will it run. Wish the episodes would continue.
Boy, just watching you two is making me feel cold !
Even more special when it’s someone you know and love.
I had a 1973 LTD 2 DOOR, with a FACTORY 429. I got it for $400 because the person selling it didn't adjust the points properly. My cousin set the points for me, and I laid a single strip about 1/2 block before it finally caught. Loved that car.
Thank you for reminding me why I left Michigan in 2006. 🙂
In 1972 my neighborhood friend's mom drove us to kindergarten in a green '72 Gran Torino with white interior. 302 - 2 barrel.
It would of been easier to fill the vent tubes then to take the top of the carb sometimes with the bowl filled through the tubes will loosen the float up and get the needle valve working again too I have had that happen a bunch of times just by filling the vents
I would LOVE to have that car!!!
My dad had one of these. It was white 1976. He drug it around from place to place as we moved growing up and eventually gave it away to a buddy just to see someone drive it. I was 11 or 12. I’d love to have it now.
Very cool car, '72s are unique!
The rare find of a '72 Gran Torino with a 429 Cobra Jet! Hope you make a part II and maybe a part III so we can see what if anything you fellas do if you get her running.

Its not a CJ, they used small plugs and had aluminum valve covers and a Rochester carb
Looks like the green Torino in the movie grande Torino with Clint Eastwood?
Those cars are such an outragious design. Glorious. Glad to see one back on the road. The station wagons of that year are the most outragious cars I have ever seen.
I’m trying to find one of these for my father-in-law. He owned one back in the late 70’s and I know it’s on his bucket list to own another one. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
We all have that one car that ignited our love for all things with tires and gasoline, some of us have archived it when we moved on to our own rides. Thanks for bringing it back to recollection, and the inevitable smile we can't wipe off our face.
Such memories...winter in Michigan, Wyoming and montana. sitting up under my town wagon after I shoveled the snow .
I hope this isn't the end. I want to see more of this particular classic!
Great job guys!!
The 72 Torino was a one year body style. It is one of the coolest most overlooked muscle cars.
Plugs look like 18 mm plugs. Not a CJ/SCJ. CJ heads had big valves which required 14 mm plugs. If it is a 429 powered car it is still a rare find.
KUDOS to you for that one!!! I’m too cold blooded, I would’ve waited until spring or pushed it inside somewhere. Always happy to see something come back to life!!!
I had a 1968 Thunderbird with 429 thunderjet owner's manual stated 100 octane minimum great engine lots of torque!
I can feel the chill in the air and smell the gas on the wind. Been under many a hood during winter doing basically the same thing.
Just happy it'll get some help She's a keeper fellas
Will it Run? Of course it will, cause you guy's always make em run. Gas, Combustion and Spark... and a little Snow too. I heard the wind kicking up and I thought wow I don't miss this weather at all. My Fingers felt cold just watching. GREAT JOB and Video Guy's.
We're in the south. South Carolina in fact. All our videos are fairly local to both SC and NC
Davin IS Hagerty. Rock on!
Dad bought a dark blue Torino new in 72'. Drove it for my high school prom in 76'. Michigan winters finally destroyed it. 🙁
We need an update of this car. Someone needs to get his jewel back on the road!
I had a 73 Gran Torino 4 door. 1st car. 302. Like the 72s much more. Love this vid. Thanks to all of you......
Owned a 72 Gran Torino in high school late 70s. I loved that car original 351. Had to replace the water pump. Went to chevys after that experience.
My grandmother took me to high school many times in one that looked like this . After this she got a Gran Torino Elite I felt like we were in luxury. All that room and leather.
I was just able to get my 39 buick special on the road. I was pleasently surprised when i got my insurance it is with Hagerty. Pretty cool. Love the videos
Enjoyed this..! Well done guys. Went as I expected.
Nice start men. Enjoyed your video! Thanks for sharing! 💯
Great stuff guys. Thanks for sharing! It would be satisfying to see the Will it Run episodes end with a short drive, even if it means a longer episode.
So goes all flesh. Life is a constant battle against entropy, and having been neglected, this once mighty thing has begun it's journey back to randomness. Thanks for putting some effort in. Hopefully she finds a loving home again and the inevitable decline can be put off again for another fifty years.
Tim would be so happy, nice job guys!
Geez, Davin and Jeff, I hope y'all got misery pay for having to work on that frozen lump! I always hated working on engines in the cold...It makes a good knuckle rap even worse! Thanks, guys, for breathing new life into an old dog! ✌️❤️🇨🇦🙂
I had a new 1973 Grand Toronto Sport white with blue vinyl roof 351 Cleveland cost $4400 from Ed Martin Ford on Shadeland Av in Indianapolis by dad worked for Ford so my have got employee cost so long ago I don't remember I was 16 and it was a great car had it till 1979 when I got a new 1979 LTD2 same basic interior as the 1973 lol
Man that needs a loving home, favourite episode so far, least favourite temperature 😅 that made me freeze my ass off just watching. Love the editing too, no dramatic music or cuts, great job guys 🤘
When pouring fuel from a bottle directly into the carb, you gotta say - That's waaay too much. Perfect!
Damn, Jeff's eyes really lit up when it fired off. Great to see.
Love wrenching in that weather
Damn I'd love to have that car. I'm a 1972 model myself, Fords are my thing and that green just seals the deal.
My favorite year of the only year of this body style. Gorgeous !
Excellent job guys. It was nice watching you guys get it running again. Although it still needs a lot of work to be road worthy, your job here was to see if it still runs. Am I correct?
Can't wait for part 2.
These guys too damn cool for their own shoes
Vent tubes fill the bowls from them without taking it apart.
I rebuilt that exact carb last summer on a 1970 Gran Torino with the 351 Cleveland! I could do it again, I love rebuilding old carbs.

BTW, its a Motorcraft 1200 carb.
Would not take much to bring this blue oval icon back to her former glory. Worth a part 2.
Beautiful car boys.
Had a friend of mine that bought one of these new. I was never a Ford man, but they had great lines and easy to work on.
Beautiful car! I had a regular 1972 Torino back in the day.
She's a keeper! ❤️
Great episode!
Out of all the cars out there, that’s the one I want. Friend has a 72 GT Torino with a 4V Cleveland 56000 actual miles rotting in his back yard
Another great video - - - love to watch yal’s adventures
Nice someone Else is out working on vehicles than just me!

all day everyday.
I have a cyclone spoiler with a 429gj that is not a cj, if it was it would have a quadrajet carb
Fantastic video and keep up the will it run video's
NOT a 429 cobra jet,the CJ and SCJ have finned aluminum valve covers and D00E-R heads. The intake in the CJ is a spread bore with a GM carb while the SCJ is a square bore with a Holley carb. That appears to be a regular 429 with a Ford 4300 (junk) they run much better with an earlier 4100 or even a 2100 like the 1970 429 2V. The 429 "Thunderjet" is the basic 429 that was in the thunderbirds from 68-71 with the high compression heads.
Hope you can save this car!
My favorite Ford. I owned a ‘72 sport when I was 17. The sport model had high back bucket seats.
Must be nice to have brand new tools every time
Please guys get this car back on the road and restore it back to her former glory 🇺🇸🇺🇸😃😃💪💪👍👍👍👍👍
My husband is from Houghton, actually Chassell, actually Tapiola.... That was great!

Needs a 'lazer stripe'!
You are great, greetings from Serbia 😊
Great job fellas. Be nice to get that car in the workshop. I like the quality of your work.
Nice work ! Could you bring back the engine rebuild series with the cars you brought back to life? That would be awesome truly !
Use an gas oil mixture down carb for first start to help lube cylinders
I like to see a follow up on this car like a part 2 guys 😃😃🇺🇸🇺🇸💪💪👍👍👍👍
