Watch out for corn rust. Our cows got it from corn stalks,learned the hard way! Western Washington!

@@tedkahler9738 the cut stalks get what's called corn rust.the cows munch on the stalks in the field and get a toxic poisoning.loss of weight,stop eating,and more. It was a serious thing in western wash. Growing up. Everyone quit grazing the corn stalks when the

Cows started getting sick.probably like a fungus.

Always have the 2 or 3 cows that'll stay right with the discharge chute, constantly get a headful of ground hay and corn, and keep walking through it if feeding alone with the old mixer wagon. If someone is there to just walk in front then they don't do it LOL! Smartbutts

Do you guys get to typically graze stalks all winter or some years do you get snowed out? Also if the weather is nice do you calve on stalks or alway put them in a lot?

we generally graze all winter and even some after calving. We can get snowed out BUT generally at some points the snow melts

We have cow calf background and finish most of our own calves
