Grainfather Glycol Chiller Adapter Kit For Homebrewers

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here is my overview of the new Grainfather Glycol Chiller Adapter kit.
Please consult with your local homebrew store for pricing in your region.
At the time of uploading this video I found that brewers in New Zealand and Australia can already buy this kit directly from Grainfather or from many local homebrew stores.
This product also launched just recently in Europe and is starting to roll out to homebrew stores.
Brewers in the US can expect to see this launch later on this year, hopefully during fall.
For Fermzilla owners, here are the product numbers and descriptions for the parts that you will require:-
1 x FermZilla Temp Twister - KL14618
1x Fermzilla - Flat Twister Lid with O ring - KL15059
1 x Fermzilla Thermowell 60cm - KL146149
For Brewtools Unitanks owners, here are product numbers and descriptions for the parts that you will require:-

So I was somehow tempted to perform the upgrade. (Pogo-pin and water do not mix) in fact they were never designed for this purpose, Pogo-pin is for measuring point on PCB in the production line.

    Hi David, I'm thinking of trying pressure fermenting and investing in a Brewtools unitank and this may solve my problem of temp control. Would you place the heat pad under the jacket around the conical and would this be sufficient to heat up 40L? This may be a silly idea but it occurred to me that you could use the coil as a super fast immersion chiller also? cheers :)

    It's good to see Grainfather giving exiting glycol chiller owners more options with regards to fermentation vessel but let's be honest- not too many people with a glycol chiller are going to be fermenting in a bucket that costs less than the chiller connection kit. Personally I'd like to see the controller available for sale independently. That'd make the glycol chiller much more enticing for unitank owners IMO.

    Hi David thank you for great video review. I was wondering about using this kit with a Ss Chronical 26L Stainless Fermenter - Brewmaster Edition. I realise this fermenter has a cooling coil already built into the side of the fermenter. I am wondering if i can still use this kit and discard the the GF coil. I would prefer not to have the coil in the lid so i can do closed pressure transfers easier. Will the provided GF hoses fit the SS conical coil external fittings and once attached will it all work with the GF adapter kit. I am also wondering how the temp probe would work with the fermenter and where it would fit. I would be interested in your comments and advice. Thanks again!

    Hey David! Thanks for all these videos - currently trying to watch as many as I can, since they are all extremely informative :) So far I'm still brewing on the lowest budget system possible, due to space and money restrictions. At least the space will not be an issue soon though, so I'm currently considering my future homebrew setup. I'm currently looking at building my own fermentation chamber with an old refrigerator - the setups I've seen seem to perform really well and appear to be a good "bang for the buck" solution. But, from everything I've gathered so far, the conical fermentor with the chiller is the way to go really if you have money to spend. One thing I'm not getting though: What do most people do for temperature control with the secondary fermentation in the bottle?? I've read that you should have the same temperature for secondary fermentation as with the primary one - how would I manage that without a fermentation chamber? Would I still need to build the refrigerator solution, or is the temperature not as important when it comes to bottle conditioning?? Hopefully, you can help me out a little :) Thank you!

  • @DavidHeathHomebrew

    @DavidHeathHomebrew

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Philipp and many thanks for your appreciation. The problem with old refrigerator’s is you never know how long they are going to last (especially these days) and the higher running costs. You also find that they can be very limited in terms of multiple vessel support. The GF gylcol chiller can support 4 fermenters and this conversion kit opens further doors, including pressure capable vessels. These pressure vessels like Fermzilla can also be used as unitanks making them suitable for both fermentation and for serving. This is certainly an easy and effective way to go with no need for bottling. For secondary fermentation in bottles you will find that leaving them in a normal room at 21C will do the job.

  • @philippberdenisvanberlekom4623

    @philippberdenisvanberlekom4623

    @@DavidHeathHomebrew Thanks for the quick reply!! See - that's the issue...We rarely have 21C in our rooms if ever, haha. In the winter we heat to 23C (which I guess would be okay, but not perfect, correct?) and in the summer it has around 27-28C, and sometimes more in a flat in Vienna where I live. No ACs here mean we get the full heat experience :) I'm guessing everything above 21C and below 16C is a problem for secondary fermentation, right? Or am I misunderstanding that step a little - is the yeast temperature only ever really that important in primary fermentation? No, right? And Lagers would be out of the equation entirely, right?
