Graham Nash performs The Hollies "King Midas In Reverse" The Ridgefield Playhouse - Sept. 11, 2013
Музыка
Graham Nash performs a 2013 rendition of his classic 1967 Hollies song "King Midas In Reverse". Recorded live at The Ridgefield Playhouse (Ridgefield, CT) on September 11, 2013, the opening night of Graham Nash's U.S. Tour.
From Wikipedia:
King Midas In Reverse is a song by British pop group The Hollies written solely by Graham Nash but credited to Clarke, Nash and Hicks for publishing. It was released by The Hollies as a single in September 1967 in anticipation of their album Butterfly. It was released in the UK on the Parlophone label (R5637) and in the US on the Epic label (10234). While a critical success, the song was a commercial failure by The Hollies' standards, prompting them to write and record the more commercial song "Jennifer Eccles" for their next single.

It is sadly unfortunate that the masses are unaware of this magnificent tune!!

Bear in mind it was released in 1967 and it did not place high on the US charts.

My favourite Hollies song by a country mile: I bought it the day it was released and still have the 45! Fab!

Great song, preserve the 45! It was rhe reason why Graham Nash left the Hollies, looking for other musicians...

I keep my magnetic tape from 1967 with all the treasures of that era safe in the shelf. This song was followed by "I see the Rain" by The Marmelade, another favourite song for me.
What a treat. Graham was in fine voice when he gifted us with this Hollies classic.
This is one of their most underrated songs! Thanks for this post!

This is a tremendous song which I've always loved! Graham does a stellar job on it here vocally and playing a fabulous acoustic guitar!!!
I've always felt Graham Nash was very underrated, especially with CSN (CSNY). He always wrote the best lyrics, and sang the best.
Underrated as hell
Such a fantastic song.......
One of my favorite Hollies songs.
Oh my God. I named my child for a song this man sang. He's as wonderful and talented as he has ever been, but like aged, fine wine, he's become better and more soulful with time. Thank you, Graham Nash, for adding magic to our lifetimes and making them more worth living.

Incredible he can still hit those notes.
Always loved this song
He’s still got “IT”,long may he keep “it”!❤
Great performance of a totally wrongly underrated Hollies classic! Over the course of her career, many interpreters transpose their classics by at least a half-tone step. Graham Nash sings and plays in the original key of G major - awesome!
I discovered this song via Stephen Soderberg’s film “The Limey”. It's used as the theme music for an important character and it’s perfect 👌
This was always my favourite Hollies song. ❤️
I'm 69 and an avid music lover and collector. I've never let the "media" control my ears, heart, soul and mind. When i bought an album or 45 record i listened to it in it's entirety or both sides, there are so many hidden "gems" to discover!❤
Fantastic performance of this classic
Here's my fond memory of "King Midas In Reverse". When the Hollies reunited and toured in 1983 to promote the "What Goes Around..." LP, one of the venues they played was the Bottom Line club, a 400 seat space near New York University. The club was general admission and the stage was about 3-4 ft. above the floor. I sat at a wooden table only three feet from the middle edge of the stage. After several new songs and a break, Allan, Tony and Graham sat close together on chairs, right in front, with Tony's acoustic guitar as the sole accompaniment, to play earlier hits. After a few, Graham then recalled that the group thought the next song would be a huge hit, and they were very discouraged when it wasn't. Then, as soon as Tony played the first notes of "King Midas...", I heard a few people gasp, perhaps because they rarely heard this song done live. And sung exactly like the orig. arrangement. Here's the Icing on the cake. After the show, I knew The Hollies had arranged to go to Tower Records (the flagship store two blocks over) to promote the new album and meet the public. I brought my copy of the US LP "Beat Group" and had Tony Hicks sign it!!! Graham was surrounded by people, and I was too shy to ask the others for an autograph.
Always loved this song, the follow up to their Epic debut smash, "Carrie Anne". I purchased the 45 as soon as it came out believing the great theme, lyrics, and so forth would prove to be another top ten hit, but it didn't happen. Still, it's a great song. Thanks for uploading!
One of the great venues on the east coast. The acoustics amazing. Not a bad seat. The audience, gets "it"
How this has 7 dislikes is, frankly, staggering. The best psychedelic single to come from England in the 60's, hands down. I feel privileged to have seen him perform this in his (and my) home town of Manchester, England during his 'This Path Tonight' tour in 2016. This bloke is a genius and it's just a shame he can't harmonise with himself on this, because he is the best harmony singer in the business. Mr Graham William Nash of Salford, I salute you.
I love this Hollies song when it was a hit in the 60's.Graham Nash is a genius in creating great melodies.
Excellent version. Great quality video. Thanks
One of my favorite Hollies songs
Genius!
John Thomas - I concur wholeheartedly! To me he is easily the class of the field of CSN or CSNY! I have always felt that he is the most talented, creative, and insightful member of the aforementioned groups in question. Also as a singer/songsmith he stands out!!
I’m 21 and I LOVE THIS
totally natural totally all totally touching, such a privilege thank you
This is probably one of the more creative Hollies songs. They could have been so much more had Graham stayed a while longer.

Agreed! But still, in my opinion,The Hollies were vastly superior to CS&N and CSN&Y. Their songs, for the most part, were of a higher quality. In addition they had Allan Clarke! Those sublime 3 part harmonies of Clarke, Nash, and Hicks were definitely better!

Agreed... CSNY never reached the sound of the Hollies. Nash his own style... But ver far from Hicks and Clarke.
Brilliant
My most favourite Hollies song !

Best version I've heard, even with the vocal snafus.

Such a great song. First time hearing this version. Thanks for posting it up.
Beautiful version. Thanks so much for posting.
Awesome. Thanks for posting.
I say this as a big Hollies fan but the Hollies could have gone on to greater heights had they and their record producer decided not to stick to being just a pop group. Graham Nash was growing as a songwriter but it was a growth not appreciated by the band, their producer and many of their fans at that time. I love this song, especially the acoustic version. More power to Graham!
I find it weird that the Hollies didn't disband/rename after he left or at least after Allan Clarke left. Imagine if Paul and Ringo got together with two random musicians and billed themselves as "the Beatles."
Five stars!
Truly great song sung by a pop genius.
lol I just learned this was a song by The Hollies... I've only known it from CSNY's Four Way Street album... and holy shit... what an album that is. One of my favorite of all times.
Brilliant, brilliant under-played classic - Graham's version of "it's not you - it's me."

I still have an old magnetic tape from 1967 with this treasure beside others of this important era. Btw. Graham Nash now looks like Keith Richards´ brother.
This is really fantastic, thank you for the superb filming. would have loved to have seen a long shot perhaps, of whoever the backing guys were, they sounded good also. Good job anyways

excellent! sounds great in 2013! knew this off the greatest hits as a teen. Surprised the crowd didn't go nuts in the intro?

@@minder4u1 He isn’t using a harmony pedal, you can hear the pitch and timing imperfections in the high harmony which would not be present in an artificial pedal

I wish he would have stayed with the Hollies and they could have done a bit more experimenting in this direction. Apparently they ragged him over this song. I think it’s great.

The Hollies, at that point, had gotten so used to having their singles land at the Top 10 that they'd grown risk averse. They'd be a much more respected group today had they decided to expand their musical boundaries in the way Graham did post-Hollies.
Its plain to see its hopeless going on the way we are. Written as "Willy" Nash was about to leave his old mates
It don't do it for me.. the original was played with his 12string, that's why I liked him !!
Mmmm... I used to like Nash when he was with THE HOLLIES...
He should've sung this solo.
Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band would have been SO much better with this song on it!
How prophetic. TRUMP.
king Nash Salfords finest
He could very well be talking about Trump!!!!!
Can't help thinking about Joe Biden when I hear this.
I really dislike this song. It's the chorus that's the problem. It just doesn't work musically. I don't know why Graham Nash persists in playing it. Maybe he thinks it's the best thing The Hollies did. I disagree, although good Hollies stuff is pretty thin on the ground. Which begs the question : why did Graham Nash stay in The Hollies so long?
