This video demonstrates a variation of Lucy Neatby's method of grafting garter, top to bottom, using a waste yarn tab at the beginning and end of your garter piece.
I discovered that working the WY tabs entirely in garter (not stockinette) allows to perfectly recreate the edge bumps at each end of the graft, ensuring a uniform bumpy edge all around.
This method works brilliantly for sideways garter designs such as beaded cuffs, mitts, mittens and hats. Check out my designs on Ravelry: www.ravelry.com/designers/gal...
Note: Your waste yarn should be in contrasting colour but not necessarily in the same weight as your main yarn. Slippery yarns like mercerised cotton will work well.
