In the mid 80s while in my early 20s I was in the Navy and on my ship they all called me Grace Jones because of my dark skin and my high top fade. I'll be 56 next month. I don't have the high top fade any more but I still have my smooth chocolate skin which I didn't appreciate then. I certainly appreciate it now

@GenXsinglefree
5 жыл бұрын
@Rob Moss Yes, there are many layers to discrimination. Globally, poverty is openly seen but not heard. Every country treats the poor like vermin. One obvious issue is housing. Right here in the good ole USA, people are priced out of housing. Low wage earners can only rent and much of that property is now being bought up and turned into 'luxury' apartments, condos and townhouses as well as gated communities and commercial dwellings. The few developers who want to build low income houses are legally stifled. Over and over, the courts rule against their efforts to buy property to build affordable housing. We know such housing is needed, but no one wants those properties near them. Far is near in their minds. Additionally, owners (corporations, churches and colleges included) of low income dwellings receive federal funding and yet are allowed to keep the places only livable. We know livable is subjective. Rich people dictating what's livable for the poor is absolutely ridiculously. Since the poor are vermin, any condition is livable.
I saw her in South Florida and the energy she brought was something you experience only once in a lifetime. INCREDIBLE
I always thought something was off about her but I'm now realizing it was me. I was not used to seeing such a confident Black Lady who was comfortable in her amazing skin and refreshingly forward. I can fully appreciate and embrace her at present. She is what I had no idea that I needed. 🙏Thanks Beautiful Grace❤

She still glows and has that "it" factor and that presence! A pretty rare talent. I agree she should've been in Black Panther. They even reference her in the movie. I feel like Okoye's performance was inspired by her.

Carmel..thee perfect and on point comment of this section. Three words to all the pop bitches who ripped off her style (you could never) and with that.. I'm out!
WOW 😮 she still looks that same!!! Beautiful 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Baby that skin is poppin’! 🙌🏾❤️
Grace Jones is the truth, creative and does not allow age to stop her.
I love that there is still that playful/naughty side to Grace while she's (pardon the pun) gracefully aging and is lending an undeniable laissez-faire attitude to her life and work. If you read her autobiography, you'll know that many of her early antics were, shall we say, chemically enhanced. Here she seems relaxed, grateful, reflective and most importantly genuinely happy. I wish I lived near a big city to see this new docu on the Big Screen, but I'm seeing a flight-to-major-city-long-weekend in my future. Having said that, you can tell Fallon has NO idea what to say, what questions to ask. The Nile Rodgers story is common knowledge. But I'm pretty sure if I had Grace on my sofa I'd also be all like "ummm....ummmm.....ummm."

I agree with you about seeing the improvement of her easy way of life. Its inspiring. Makes you want to grasp that attitude right now and skip that downward spiral, drug abusive antics part that people choose in life. But the niles story, it was new to me. Though, I haven't read any Grace Jones autobiographies, or relavant news to know that. When I was younger, people would always tell me I reminded them of her. And I couldn't see it and hated the comparison. I just didn't get it. She's amazing
Jimmy that was so cool to see Grace Jones haven't seen her in years that was awesome.

She is so timeless. Not a fan of her work. BUT... I am a fan of her happiness, joy, and her positivity. Many more joy filled years to you Mrs. Jones. Respect🙏

Grace had some great disco hits in the 70's (I Need A Man/Do Or Die/That's The Trouble/Sorry/Pride/Fame), she also has worked with Eartha Kitt and Eddie Murphy. I think it's just Grace is too much for some to handle like Eartha was 😚both lovely ladies though

I've worked for Grace Jones before and met Nile Rodgers, I'm very fortunate.🎼
With Grace Jones, you can’t be anything else, but respectful, look at ,and hear her wondrous voice, and style! Truly remarkable, and someone, you’ll never 4-get! And may u live 4-ever! It’s in her jeans!
I've always thought of her as a female David Bowie in a way. She is a beautiful woman, very exotic. Oddly as a kid, I developed a crush on her after watching "Conan the Barbarian" movies on cable tv, haha.

MoutonInMotion - The term "Black Don't Crack" means "Ageless." You are absolutely correct, she looks amazing to be her age and looks the same as she did in the 80's.
Looove this lady! 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲 Big up all the yaardies!!
Slave to the rhythm is still my all time favourite pop track & the way she performed it “ live” ( with a hula-hoop) for Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee anniversary party in front of Buckingham palace, was Spectacular !! 😍
