It is your Aunt Grace, Leotyne Price, Marian Anderson, and Kathleen Battle that inspired me take opera voice lessons and fortified my love of opera. To see and hear your Aunt and the other Black Female Opera singers brought and still brings great joy to my heart. 🥰

She makes it look so darn easy. A great great singer!

Her voice is amazing. The acting is amazing. Amazing Grace.

her sopranish top notes are amazing

I enjoy all aspects of music and singing. But when a female singers are producing such ringing, brilliant and commanding high notes, it thrills me most. Just the acoustic phenomenon itself gives me chills.

what amazes me is she hardly looks like she's opening her mouth very wide or taking huge breaths yet this grande sound emits form her! props to her =))

She has a beautiful voice, so effortless. Only found her fairly recently

She was Callas with a sense of humor, so to speak. The Carmen of Carmens.

Wow, not only is her voice stunning, but I just love her interpretation-- a little slower than most I've heard, and, I think, more nuanced.

It's from Salzburg Festival, 1966, under H. von Karajan's baton. Jon Vickers, Mirella Freni and Justino Diaz. An outstanding performance.

RIP Amazing Grace.

Wow! That slight but ever so dramatic change in her facial expression in the 1st 10 secs speaks volumes about her talent, independent of her magical voice. What a beauty! And does anyone notice her foot tapping at 0:09 s? Notice how the heel hits the ground right on the downbeats but rises with a sort of rubato haste, just ahead of the tempo of the orchestra. She's basically dancing a rubato and it's so appropriate! Such subtlety is the mark of a born musician! They feel music from head to toe.

No one will ever top Grace Bumbry metallic quality ❤🎼

Anubhab Chatterjee Joan Sutherland never sang Carmen (fortunately I might add, even speaking as a die-hard fan. she didn't have the creamy, sultry, delicious lower register necessary to pull it off)

+Jason Black Actually, that's not quite correct. Sutherland sang as a dramatic coloratura, but her physiologic voice type was DRAMATIC MEZZO. She actually had quite a dark and rich lower register (check out her Voi che sapete), with no lower head-midrange break. However, for obvious reasons she did not develop this part of her voice, so it never had much compression or brilliance to it. But yes, her Carmen would have been horrific, for temperament mis-match alone!

with all due respect, that's ridiculous. Sutherland is clearly most comfortable at the top of the soprano range. she is about as mezzo as Cher is coloratura soprano

A unique Carmen.Splendid.

Its amazing how comfortable she is lying down and sitting while singing the way she did! Wow! Going from Mezzo to Soprano was a verry wise choice!

So sensual.She is the real Carmen (no offense) The first time I listen her great voice.Fantastic Bumbry.Brava!

I agree she makes this seem so easy...making it her own (interpretation) makes it seem dam easy. Wow to the Wow!

+Anubhab Chatterjee Callas was great at Carmen just like all the roles she took on... but she wasn't a mezzo so I think a darker color voice soprano or mezzo would do the role more justice!
