Awesome to collab with you guys again! The FL5 was the clear winner for me but a few days later after thinking about it, I feel like there is a real case for the GR Corolla if you live in a snowy climate. Great cars, both!

Awesome! I own and love my FK8 Honda Civic Type R but the fact that both the GR Corolla and Honda Civic Type R are being made and are on sale in 2023 is something to not be taken for granted and is a big win for car enthusiasts everywhere. Thanks for the video.

As a Type R owner......what keeps my eye on the GR corolla is because it is the "right size" car. Type R is just way too big for "compact sport" class.

yeah. The ctr is a large car. I know humans are getting bigger in general but damn... They need to make a Honda City or Fit Type R

As the old saying goes - Bigger is Better - Until It's Too Big!!! Type R is to big. I like the GRC not a fan of the Boy Racer Type r. Especially the older ones. I'm done with FWD cars - they might be fast but the GRC is more playful & fast Nuf.

Oh! Tsukuba Skyline! It makes me so nostalgic! About 20 years ago,I used to drive my old WRX here over nights. How long it’s been,I’ve started to feel like driving my A45s here “safely”.🤣

How many people were surprised the Type R came out with the higher score in the end? Not many i guess. Looks like a beast.

I’m glad to see the CTR got cleaned up from the previous model, wayyyy too many fake vents, etc. This gen looks very clean. I personally went for the GRC and main reason was the AWD and that it’s more of a hatchback style look instead of sedan. Both great cars though.

Still can't believe the US received the Evo, STi, Focus RS, GR Corolla and Civic Type R. All of which are the best and final and best versions of these cars. Just nuts..

I wish they put in a little more effort into the GR-C's interior for the Circuit edition to make it more distinct from the Core, and compete better with the FL5. I can't complain though cause the GR-C core in the US starts at $35k and with options barely touches $40k, which IMO is the perfect spot for a Hot Hatch. The FL5 is a bit too pricey at $43-45k. IMO if you're gonna save $$ and try to stay under $40k: get the GR-C core, and if you are looking at the Circuit get the FL5 instead! Great review 👏👏

Nice to see Albo collab on this one! Personally my pick would also be the Civic as I was brought up on the FF layout. Once you’re moving the AWD advantage starts to wash off and then becomes more of a hindrance in my opinion, unless you’re on low friction terrain of course, then AWD is worth its weight 👌

Your gauges suggest you tested the GRC in normal mode. Sport mode is very different. Quite an oversight.

Own a FL5 and got to drive a GRC a while back. Fun car, biggest selling point is the AWD and size, feels really nimble and 1st gear can be used more practically compared to the type r. Wasn't a huge fan of the seating position and interior felt a bit cheap. Would take a GRC over a WRX / STI without a doubt. If I had to give you an idea of how the FL5 feels in comparison....steering is much sharper and agile (pointy), seating position is lower, torque really hits you much harder, and the car feels much more stable also at high speeds. The GRC really 'feels' like a rally car, something that is meant to be thrown around and bet on, whereas the FL5 feels like a well engineered track car. The video comparison is pretty spot on from my POV.

AllwheelDrive even in Winter is not necessary…I had a 2005 honda civic with really good tires #xice3 and really that’s was enough to get me through Canadian winter’s🥶 and drive better than most cars or trucks. I never needed anything more. It’s about the driver 😅😅😅👍🏿loving the FL5 😊❤😊

I'd like to own a 2 door coupe version of the Corolla - to this day, true sports car looks (as in Acura NSX, Ferrari 458) include 2 doors, not 4. Here's a link to a video of a concept 2024 Corolla 2 door coupe: 2024 Corolla 2 door coupe concept kzread.info/dash/bejne/hnWmyrikptLgfLA.html

The GR Corolla is no way near the FL5 as the FL5 is a league of its own. It is another class above the Corolla.

The engine isn't the issue in the GR. It's a lot of the implementation of the electronics. How the drive by wire operates, the AWD system, the steering rack electronic assist feels... Then taking into account the higher ride height, 20k interior, barely able to fit a tire set into the car for a track day, etc. It gives the car a less refined and playful feeling but it does give up before the FL5 would. It doesn't help it runs the PS4 vs the PS4s that's 30mm thinner either.

A: Looks are subjective cause I think they look great. B: If you compare these to a GR86 you clearly don't get it. These are made to be hot hatches with 4 doors for practicality on the weekdays, with enough prowess and capability to be track/touge worthy on the weekend. GR86 has no practicality and is hot ass in the snow.
