Oh please the only way this will do anything is if he builds new prisons which means raising taxes massively, DeSantis has failed to build any new prisons to deal with crime. My neighbor has been waiting for over a year to serve his prison sentence because there is no space so he was put on a waiting list and sits at home playing games and and doing drugs.

Most of the nuisance you refer to is people stealing food to survive. I will say it once again. At least 80% of the increase in retail thefts are food items under $50. When you or your kids are starving you will steal or do a lot of other things to feed them. This is from the actual figures from Attorney General Ashley Moody's own official crime statistics.

It’s discouraging. I’m not wealthy, and I have to pay for my purchases. Morally and ethically I will. I’ll do without, not steal. This is not a good thing for our country. Thanks to the Democrats for causing companies to reduce the number of employees. But as you noted, people are stealing out of the packages with only two employees at that Olies’s. Not walking out with cart full or bags full of products like in Blue cities and states where nothing happens to them. Unfortunately you will always have bad people, but at least if caught in Florida, they will get in trouble.

It has to do with agenda of certain parties of persons that are no longer held accountable because of their feelings of being done wrong. People need to have integrity regardless of what has been dealt in life and hold themselves personally to higher standards. Unfortunately, we don’t have many people that hold those values anymore. Sad to see but it will increase and I’m thankful Gov DeSantis is doing what he can to stop it here in FL. This is one of the few great states of America 🇺🇸

If you have to build more prisons for your population taht says a lot more about your state is taking ble to function enough for people to create less crime. Your basically putting a bandaid. You want less people in jail

I am a Minneapolis refugee, a once socialist lefty, with covid and Floyd I saw firsthand how left policy destroyed a once great city and state. Those experiences had a major impact, and pushed me far right, today I am proud to call myself a Floridian. God bless Florida and God bless our amazing leadership.

Democrat cities will protect their criminal voters.

I work for a national retail chain here in Florida. If any employee attempts to stop a shoplifter we'll be fired. Back in the early 1970's I stopped a man who was stealing a 10 cent newspaper. When we went to court the fellow said to the Judge that it was ONLY a 10 cent newspaper! The Judge sentenced him to 10 days in jail. That's why we didn't have a big problem with shoplifting.

It is sad when you have to legislate that which people used to consider obvious. You don't steal. You act honorably. Prosecutors and law enforcement have let the public down in not putting thieves in jail.

Awesome!!! The good is in the details. Some people may think shoplifting is not a big deal, the problem is all the criminal activity that flourish and expand around that seemingly simply shoplifting crime. Awesome work Governor and legislators on helping law and order!!!

Changing the law from it being illegal to being more illegal is not going to fix anything. Need to enforce laws that already exists. This is just DeSantis trying to look like he is actively trying to do something. This will change nothing.
