LYRICS
In the mornings
I was anxious
It was better just to stay in bed
Didn't want to fail myself again
Running through all the options
And the endings
Were rolling out in front of me
But I couldn't choose a thread to begin
And I could not love
'Cause I could not love myself
Never good enough, no
That was all I'd tell myself
And I was not well
But I could not help myself
I was giving up on living
In the morning
You were leaving
Traveling south again
And you said you were not unprepared
And all the dead ends
And disappointments
Were fading from your memory
Ready for that lonely life to end
And you gave me love
When I could not love myself
And you made me turn
From the way I saw myself
And you're patient, love
And you help me help myself
And you save me,
You save me,
You save me

i dedicate this song to my ex. the most beautiful man ever. He loved so hard, and i took it for granted. He loved Gotye and this album. His favorite songs from the album were "I feel better" and this song. Every time I listen to either song, I cry hysterically, thinking about the many car rides how he would just immerse himself into the songs and sing away, not having any care in the world and being full of joy. The lyrics hurt deep because he has actually saved me. All i have are the memories while i listen to this beautiful album. I love you, Jeremy

Incredibly sad to me that "Someone That You Used To Know" became famous, but not Gotye himself. There's even videos that treat him like "What Happened to the 'Someone You Used to Know' Guy?" Making Mirrors is a great record man. So is Like Drawing Blood

Iirc the guy doesn't really like the business side of the music industry especially after the headache inducing copyright schmucks that his song "Somebody that I Used to Know" Caused. Long story short he's now making songs with his friends in Australia and left the big scene. He's still active in making music but you just have to dig it up pretty hard

A true artist in every sense of the word... ART AT IT'S FINEST!!!! I believe that it is not important to Gotye how many people his art reaches... but rather, how his art impacts even one heart and soul. Thank you Wally, collaborators and crew for ALL the hard work and the resulting beauty that you put out into this troubled world!!!! The Karma will run over the dogma!!!! Much Peace and Love! ☮️💙

in my opinion he's a genius and there's nothing like him quite out there...and for that reason he's a true artist...he doesn't copy nor does he follow easy pop trends to make loads of money....he puts the words and images and music together in a way...that music..."ought" to be...in this modern era.... so many are so caught in the past...he's the future

joeytje50 He's underrated as an artist, not an accomplished musician. I mean just think if some of your best pieces of work were covered up by a pop song that relatively pandered to the masses. The rest of his career is underrated. One hit wonder? Yes. Should he be? no.

I don't know if you're gonna read this, but I want to share some thoughts. Whenever I hear one-hit wonders, I just get a painful urge to dig deeper, to find more about the artist. And whenever I do, most of the time, I find a treasure trove of good stuff. Just think about it; If you make something that is so good that resonates through the world, how can that be by accident? There must be more to the artist than simple luck or happenstance! And these other music videos that are on this channel are a testament to this. It's obvious that you pour your heart and soul into everything you do and every one of them are good. I almost never comment, but I just had to put this out here, because I came to respect you and your work so much.

I commented on this video years ago how Somebody I Used To Know hit home on Kimbra's part was everything I wanted to say to my abusive ex and Save Me was meeting my now husband when I could not love myself and he saved me. Now we've been together almost 11 years and I still revisit this song not just because it's awesome but because it reminds me of how my husband saved me. My ex actually contacted me a couple of weeks ago which set off all my anxieties and once again my husband was there to save me so I will keep coming back to this song because it makes me smile how lucky I am to have a husband who saved me.
