I have never seen a gorilla do that before ..... squirt their own breastmilk and let it come back down into her own mouth. This a new one on me here. I don't think the baby was done nursing yet, but I hope he/she got enough. ❤

I’ve seen Tayari, Shinda, Duni (?), Shatilla, and Kijivu and possibly even a few other gorilla moms check their milk. But I haven’t seen any of them go for their own personal nursing session like Effie though.

Effie's parenting seriously makes me nervous and the zoos lack of attention to the babies also make me nervous. I dont understand why the babies havent been checked out by zoo staff to confirm the sex of either babies and why they havent been named.... they're just as indifferent to the baby as Effie is. Past history clearly shows that Effie is not an attentive mother as she hasn't actually raised any of her babies. I honestly worry about this little one. Its hard to watch the videos of Effie and her baby sometimes. The little one deserves to be taken care of properly.

I think that because the baby’s now are 5 months old, the can be also make a year over another 7 months. Even it’s not the most properly behavior from Effie, her boy/girl looks not unhealthy. From what I’ve been seeing both babies are girls

@@AliceMeexPeople said the same thing about other mothers who drank the milk. They swore Jabali was going to die because he wasn’t being fed. Look at him now! The most lovable naughty rascal still drinking moms milk. Why wouldn’t you want to give a gorilla a heart regardless? Isn’t it enough that they are surviving while so many are dying out there? Where is your heart?

I have never seen a mother gorilla push the infant off the breast so she could have ALL the breast milk for herself. I am shocked!!! I have been watching gorillas for nearly 2 years any video I can get ahold of and I have never seen this before. Does the zoo have any responsibility to the infant if it develops failure to thrive? ❤poor baby 🦍🙏

I’d give Effie a C as a mom. I figured it was a matter of time before she pushed her baby off but it lasted longer than I thought. This is the first video I’ve seen of the baby getting to nurse. Sad baby is so used to getting pushed away. Hard to know how the zoo keepers are handling this, can’t judge from short videos. They may be supplemental feeding, the baby looks healthy.

@Alice Meeks What do you want a 5 month old to do? Jameela is the same age and is no different! Effie loves her baby and is doing the best that she can do. Genki did the best she could do. Gentaro was a big boy when she had Kintaro! Do you realize that the mother gorilla has to protect her baby against older gorillas? That is how babies die! Look at Gentaro and Kintaro now. Big beautiful gorillas. Thanks to the zoo staff and their gorilla family.

Good grief, Genki never rejected her babies. Gentaro was taken because they didn’t think Genki had enough milk. She hardly let Kintaro out of her arms until he was 6 months old, she is an A+ mother. Effie is protective but not loving. The baby is not weak, he has learned there is no use trying when he is pushed away and trying to snuggle with mom doesn’t work. He will probably be fine, learning to be independent way early. It’s nice to see a little interaction.

I wonder why she pushed her baby away? I know that a lot of the primate mothers drink their own milk, but I alway thought it was to drain the excess milk since some mamas have a lot of milk and since the baby can't drink all the milk, she has to drink it herself or she will experience painful teats. ❤

As what I’ve seen in this video for minutes, both babies are girls. Although I know that even the males have very tiny gender characteristics, there is still a bit different to see when it’s a boy. I saw it bij Kayembe, Gentaro and Kintaro. Between the legs of this babies I didn’t see anything at all😂, so I stay curious til the answer comes😊

Unfortunately, it is not the best mother, almost always the baby fights for the milk and the mother does not let him eat to his heart's content. She takes care of him, but she is not a model mother. I hope that the child will fight for its own, and soon it will start to eat then it will be fine.

This is pretty sad case of a mom. This baby is not getting enough milk. These caregivers need to be giving the mom supplements. She is lacking therefore both of them are lacking. I am not gonna watch this family.
