This video was shot in 2019.
Zookeepers apply olive oil to the limbs of Momotaro to prevent it from drying out.
She first used an oil spray, but Momotaro hated it.
So she used her hands to apply olive oil to Momotaro.
The gorillas also train to manage their physical condition.
Momotaro shows the body parts specified by the zookeeper.
⚠️ Due to the spread of COVID-19, Kyoto City Zoo will be closed from April 25th to May 31st.
(The closed period may be extended)

⭐️モモタロウ Momotaro ♂(2000/7/3)
momotaro was born at Ueno zoo in Tokyo on jul.3,2000 and came to our zoo on Oct.18,2010.
He is beautiful and handsome ,the silverback of our troop.
He is a little timid,and scared of new things.
He sometimes shows lovely behaviors that melt our hearts.
He is making efforts to be a good dad for his two sons.
⭐️ゲンキ Genki ♀(1986/6/24)
Genki was born at our zoo on Jun,24,1986.
After mating with several males without a pregnancy she found her perfect partner Momotaro.
Now she is a loving and caring mom for her two sons.
She sometimes behaves boldly,yet she can also be sensitive.
Genki has a cute face with shining eyes.
⭐️ゲンタロウ Gentaro ♂(2011/12/21))
Gentaro was born at our zoo on Dec.21,2011,as Momotaro and Genki's first son.
Unfortunately Genki didn't have enough milk,so he was nursed by keepers for his first 10.5 months.
Now he loves his mom,and his face really looks like her.
He also loves people .
Everyone immediately agrees that he is a very adorable boy.
⭐️キンタロウ Kintaro ♂(2018/12/19)
Kintaro was born at our zoo on Dec.19,2018.
He has big bright eyes and long eyebrows.
He is growing fine ,being loved by his parents and brother.
He love to play by himself,with his father.
He is still small, but smart and strong-willed.
His cute appearance and behavior attract everyone's interest.

Isn't this the same keeper that interacts so lovingly with Gentaro & Kintaro? She obviously is dedicated to the "family"; she's kind, talks with him and I imagine she uses a soft voice. She is fantastic and should be applauded for her work! Momotaro looks like a big teddy bear...

I've been telling others about this video! Big Momotaro seems to be enjoying his spa time. He even got a little back rub/scratch. 😄 I believe he gets this this done daily. I bet the olive oil feels good on his hands and feet. You just know he's smelling and tasting the olive oil. Such a big, handsome pushover. 😍😍😍😍😍😍

Momotaro is my favorite silverback..he is such a gentle giant. An introverted soul. Love this family and their relationship with the keepers.

Momotaro is so smart and sweet. Doing everything the zoo keeper told him to do and he looked like Kintaro at the end the way he was laying down with his feet up. He's so cute!🦍💕

Momotaro ganhando tratamento vip, azeite nas mãos e pés para não ressecar, impressionante como miss Hina conversa com ele e vai dizendo e apontando a parte do corpo e Momotaro entende e cumpre direitinho o pedido da tratadora, ele com certeza ama miss Hina pois se mostra dócil e adora o carinho, as massagens e os petiscos , depois da sessão ele se sente relaxado e deita.Momotaro um dos mais lindos silverback que já vi.
Montaro is such a great patient getting the keeper putting olive oil on limbs he is so soothed by the zookeeper he seems to really like her i love watching him react to her. I love Montaro family all of them are great.

I often thought their hands and feet must get so dry & cracked with the walking. I never knew they applied Olive Oil to help with their dry skin. I love to learn about the things they do to make them happy and healthy. Momo seems to love this like he is having a Spa day and being pampered. He has so much trust and love for his beloved Keeper. This staff is so wonderful and their bonds with this Gorilla family shows how much they respect, love and trust they share. Thank you so much. Be safe! ;-) BTW, If they did this with Gentaro, I'm sure he would find a way to slide around inside on the floor, zooming by everyone and freak out family! ;-)

Momotaro is probably the most restraint silverback gorilla I've seen. All silverbacks displays aggression for various of reason, and Momotaro is no exception. That's in their nature. But every gorilla is like a person with different personality. Our cousins are like us. Some can control their emotions better than others. Momotaro is definately a very calm silverback and laid back compared to many. He has master his natural instinct.
