I’m not surprised that her husband nearly divorced her, to paint over that was criminal. It wasn’t even shabby chic, it was just shabby! You have rescued a fabulous piece of furniture, it’s a work of art. Thank you for saving this, someone put a lot of work and effort into making that and now with your work and effort, someone who has taste can appreciate it.

Exactly. There are times when paint is justified; I have seen a dreadful piece with peeling veneer and dog chewing damage rescued with some wood filler and paint and look OK. This was NOT one of those! There was nothing wrong with it, it's beautiful, and she did her best to make it look like some old crappy thing that's been on the side porch for years.

Not only furniture. But when they wreak the interior woodwork of a house. Especially the older houses. Where in many cases, they used paint to cover up the Deity given beauty in the form of the grain of the wood.

This is a beautiful restoration. Your choices of colors and finishes were ideal. It now is a gorgeous and true-to-design piece that becomes a feature in any home. The "before" photos made me want to cry.

Another phenomenal restoration. I love that you demonstrate how painted pieces can be returned to a more natural/neutral state. Good solid pieces are more valuable to me, for that reason. Thank you

Hi Greg. I will speak when I feel the content warrants it. It seems from the comments from my viewers that they prefer the ASMR video. It is actually easier than narrating it. However, I have a DANCE STUDIO next door to my shop that plays music very loud so it is difficult to video tape sometimes for the ASMR with all that noise in the background! I plan my asmr shots around her classes. LOL!

I agree with leaving it like that. You did such a beautiful job bringing it back.

I do not produce videos of every piece of furniture I refinish. Sometimes the wood is in poor shape so I do not produce a video (or do not complete it). I only do videos of those pieces I think my viewers would appreciate seeing the process and results.

WHen I saw the carving I hoped it had some nice wood grain. I could see by looking at the inside of the cabinet that it had high quality veneer. When ever I strip painted furniture I hold my breath until I finish stripping it because I am afraid they painted it to cover up some damaged wood that has been filled in with a lot of wood filler.

Thank God you rescued this beautiful piece, the lady literally vandalized it. Leaving it raw is right, great job.

Me too!!!! I was shocked. When I stripped the doors and saw the burl I was even more shocked. I kept waiting for some big damaged area to be uncovered by the stripper! Surely you would only paint something so beautiful if the wood was too damaged?

my son watches the antiques roadshow and saw a piece just like that and it is worth a lot. it is absolutely beautiful piece and i am so glad you were able to restore it. it will add grace and warmth to any home.

you guys UK I'm like where? The prose. I'm 4th gen out of UK. I grew up hearing the idiosyncracies. English is Americanized after someone thought to clean it up. Do we still pulverized the language everywhere? tell me I'm tired of researching Google.

LOL! I sold it to a woman and when she came to pick it up she saw the chest I was working on. She also purchased the chest. In fact, she had me stain the chest to match this piece. She was lovely. It is always rewarding to have a client appreciate ( and love) my work. It is also rewarding to have viewers say nice things like you did :-)
