Thanks very much for this Lightfoot masterpiece Harri. I know you've done several reactions of his songs and nobody appreciates it more than I do. Gordon is the reason I picked up a guitar and learned to play almost 50 years ago. My wife and I saw him and his band perform many times at venerable Massey Hall in Toronto and he was (and still is) our favourite singer/songwriter. The gift that Gordon had for incredibly heartfelt lyrics and hauntingly beautiful melodies has never been matched (IMHO), he was a true artist. I still find it hard to speak of him in the past tense but like all great artists his unparalleled gift of music keeps giving. Cheers from Ontario, Canada!

Hi Harri!. I'm so happy that you have found the brilliance of Gordon. If you want to hear another masterpiece of his I'd suggest Black Day in July. It's about the 1967 riots in Detroit. Some radio stations in the U.S banned this song. RIP Gordon!

There are about 10 of his songs that are not great. The other couple hundred are all magical. Gordon put some of these lesser songs on the Rhino box-set that had never been released before, and you could tell why most of them hadn't. He had exceptional taste -- not just in songwriting -- but in knowing what was good and what wasn't quite so good.

Gordon has so many beautiful and moving songs. The melodic and rhythmic variation he adds to the lyrics "Looking a--a-at the rain" at the very end is as gorgeous an ending as there is in popular music. He often varies a phrase he's repeated in a song for emotional and structural effect, and those are some of the finest moments in his songs. So wonderful that you are covering this beloved artist.

Listening to Gordon Lightfoot each and every day for many years grounds me. It reminds me of my mortality. It reconfirms the absolute critical importance of humility in a time of great misplaced self importance. It redirects pain and suffering from one’s self to the Experience of Living,in the broader context. He encourages me to rise above the petty day to day distractions in order to focus on what is important and meaningful. Gordon Lightfoot, poet, musician, Sage ….. Thank you .

Move on they say It never works we live on with the pain The Love we lose along the way brings a feaver to the brain I always thought this song was too good for this world Like so many songs gord wrote. He asked, "does anyone realy want to hear these sad songs? He went to a shrink and he was diagnosed as having a case of Psychic Masochism. I remember him muttering that term just befor he sang Shadows at a concert in LA. "Is song is an example of Psychic Masochism" then he sang Shadows. I yhiught he was being humorous. No doubt he was but Gord didnt need a shrink. He needed a good spiritual adviser to help his beautiful soul to travers ever higher in the perfection of suffering. I think he did quite well. Thanks for doing this song.
