I feel horrible for actor Wil Wheaton (Gordie) now that I know this was his reality at home. He probably wasn’t acting here, but letting out real emotional pain.

It’s really a shame that River Phoenix took his own life almost 30 years ago! 😢😢 He’d be a very big Hollywood star if he was still around.

When TNG started, I don't think I had seen Stand By Me yet, or very recently before then. So I only knew Will Wheaton's name and maybe a little of his acting from the movie. I always felt Wesley Crusher (character) was badly designed and written, unfair to Will Wheaton's acting ability. -- And yeh, River Phoenix was gone way too soon. It goes to show that we can go through a lot, and sometimes life gets to some peole too much and others manage to survive or to avoid some things. Knowing now that Will had a bad home life, River and one of the Coreys died too soon.... That's not fair to them. I've had crap in my life too, but I'm still around. (Having a tough time with income and life now too, but surviving.) But I wish we had more of these actors. They had more to contribute, even though they felt they didn't want to live anymore. I wish someone could have reached into River and the other Corey, to get at what was hurting them so much, and make them feel better, so they could have lived and enjoyed and created more. Glad we still have Will and Jerry O'Connell and others around. And I miss some people I grew up around, friends and relatives not here anymore. -- Very glad some of us have good friends to guide us through. We all need more of that.

I just watched this movie today and I screamed during this scene, “NOW THAT’S WHAT I CALL A BEST FRIEND!”

I can't believe how young River and Wil were here! They were immensely talented, and so wonderful at emoting! 👏🏾❤️

I think we all need a friend like Chris chambers it’s sad how he was seen as bad because of his family’s reputation but he was a good friend to Gordie.

This scene changes for me over time. When I was young it was a scene about a friend getting his friend through a moment, as an adult I see two children in the thick of their child hood trauma's putting their life experience into their performance. River the survivor of a cult, and will being forced into acting and emotionally abused by his father. This scene becomes a time capsule into the harms children can face alone, in the moments they are surviving it.

This scene moved me to tears! A story with moral values, love, and especially friendship. 😌❤️

Chris is such a good friend

I wish this movie had a PG-13 rating instead of R. I think all adolescent boys should be able to watch this. It shows them that even though they’re taught to be tough, inside they’re all fragile human beings. Every boy should have a shoulder to cry on the way Chris was there for Gordie and Teddy. It’s sad how Chris is made to look by the town people when he really has a heart of gold. I love how they all got along and looked out for each other, even though they were all weird in some way and had their own quirks; and they stayed loyal to each other.

Never have and probably never will see another child actor as good as River in this scene

I want a friend like Chris. Someone who accepts me at my worst, like Gordie here, and therefore we are spiritually connected always.

What matters in this movie is that four boys just starting their teens become close friends, young men, and they learn what's important about life and friendship. Sometimes, life throws real hardship at you, real tough choices. How do you get through it? You need friends. Sometimes, we don't have someone for a long time. But this film shows these boys making real, tough choices, being real men -- including if they are hurt and cry, or have doubts, fears, anger, sadness. They care. That isn't a gay or straight thing either. It's being themselves. A friend like the boys in the story is a wonderful thing some of us long for all our lives and rarely find. -- I haven't rewatched the movie in years. I think I was still in college the I first saw it, or maybe soon after Star Trek TNG started. I'm just a few years older than the boys in the movie, closer to the older teens' age. These actors did such an amazing job when they were just kids.

Having Friends around you. Do care about you more than anything, that's important.

A simple plot but the way this movie showcases the bond of friendship, the separation of friends, and brilliant performances by Gordie, Vern, Teddy and Chris is beyond excellence ❤️❤️❤️

This movie is based off of Stephen King's story the body which was directed by Rob Reiner in the 1950s in Castle Rock full best friends go off on a journey define a supposedly deceased boy that they knew of while the whole time had to deal with their own personal emotional problems and obstacles.
