Goose vs Swan

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

On 9th May 2013, I was on my lunch break when I witnessed a Canada Goose protect her goslings from a swan, as the two went head-to-head in a Mortal Kombat-eqsue battle to the death (well, until one fell into the lake and swam off in embarrassment).
The swan was hungry, the goose was angry and the tide was rising.
Why did I upload this over four years later? I'm a procrastinator. Sue me. Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, England.

Every time a Canadian has a rude or aggressive impulse, they transfer it into a goose. That's why Canadian humans are so nice and Canadian geese are so mean.

You're big enough to eat that swan, even as a child. A weird hairless monster without wings. That swan needs a massive run up just to get airbourne - there are few places for it to escape to if you attacked. Of course, you wernt intending to do that, and you couldnt out yourself in the swans shoes as a little kid - but the sean had very little vhoice but to try and scare you off lol. It was life or death for them.

It's interesting seeing interactions in nature. Though I'd recommend feeding something other than bread. It doesn't have all the nutrients waterfowl need. I'd recommend a variety of fruits and veggies. Or, if you don't want to go shopping for all that just for geese and swans, you can get waterfowl pellets from most feed stores or online.

I wanted to take a selfie with a goose recently. I stood up in front of the flock and walked backwards slowly, trying to get as close as possible to them. Suddenly the geese started to get closer to me, all at once, and more coming in the background. I couldn't believe my luck. I was in trance. I felt I was going to hug them and they would kiss me. The perfect selfie. Hundreds of likes. They were just a foot away from me when suddenly they stretched their necks and bit the hell out of me. Even though I was wearing jeans and long sleeves, they pinched my legs and arms with their sharp beaks till my skin almost bled. The attack was so sudden that when I could finally run, I was already bitten, hurt and bruised. Probably 7 or 8 birds bit me altogether. Never ever heard myself screaming for my life like this. I'm happy I didn't get PTSD. These birds are no joke. Stay far away from them.

I managed to grab an attacking swan by the neck and damn near yeet it, it must’ve had its’ pipes damaged by that action, because it franctically backed off. It attacked me without any provocation, by the way, I was just an oblivious kid passing by it and minding my own business.

It took this video for me to realize that swans are significantly bigger than geese - and their arched necks make them different from the straightened ones of the geese. I live in San Antonio, TX - so, we don't get much geese or swans here. We only have them at parks - most notably, Woodlawn Lake...oh, I used to love it when one of the geese would follow my mom and I; we used to feed the geese there. I thought they were cute! - even though they were adults...
