I recently found out that geese are unconditionally, with NO exception, afraid of the sound of a Craftsman S205 chainsaw starting up. Every time I turn it on, every goose within audible range, no matter how angry, immediately stops what they’re doing, gets up, and flies away. It’s just a consistent thing.

Born 1952. There had been fear Canadian geese were going extinct. Much earlier (before my birth) a guy named Jack Miner stepped up; but I remember people talking about it. Established feeding grounds, started banding birds, keeping records that formed the basis of the U.S. / Canadian migratory bird treaty. He was very successful. Maybe too successful!

Fun fact: geese fly in V-formation because their wingtips generate spinning vortices, and by positioning oneself in exactly correct spot behind the leader, the follower goose can ride the updraft of that vortex - which is a lot less physical effort to stay airborne. Headwind resistance is actually slightly more, because the leader pushes the air backwards and the follower has to fly through that, but being in the updraft more than makes up for it. Due to the same effect geese can sometimes enter formations beside moving vehicles with particular aerodynamics.

I worked in an urban irrigation project for a few years and we had a lot of geese and ducks. The old timers carried spray bottles with a diluted mixture of water and ammonia with them, when the geese got aggressive they would spray the attackers on the chest of back with the smelly stuff. They would immediately stop and retreat. After a while the aggressive birds learned to avoid the guys with the bottles.

There are a bunch of artificial streams in my apartment complex that are filled with ducks year round. During the goose season (like right now) it's filled with Canadian Honkers too. I can't walk out of my door without one on the roof honking, or a pair of them with five or so goslings between them on the narrow walkways, hissing at everyone that comes close. I like em and don't care, it's like I live next to the river year round, I've woken up to geese on my porch harassing my cat through the sliding glass door and wouldn't change a thing!

Growing up in southeastern Virginia, the Canada Geese migrated back and forth. Now they stay year round. I read an article a couple of years ago that some Americans concerned about the Canada Goose might become endangered, so they raised many of them domestically. This, as well as the vast number of detention ponds built in housing areas, have contributed to these Canada Geese not migrating.

Funnily enough I now incubate and raise geese! It started when I adopted 2 embden geese that had been abandoned on land near a house I moved into with my mother. We quickly earned their trust and eventually decided to start getting more geese and now even incubating and hatching goose eggs and they are so incredibly loving and loyal when you earn their trust. We also get some Canadian geese around here, and they are very friendly toward us and even eat out of our hands, it’s great!

We had a pet goose named Flipper. We found her as an egg and let our chickens do the work. She was the sweetest goose I've ever had. Whenever you fed her she was so careful , and on top of that she'd follow you around with her best friend (a chicken she got attached to.) On the last few weeks of her life she learned how to get on our porch and constantly honk till we came out and pet her/feed her. A tiny bit ago we lost her, and never found her. She never seemed interested in the geese flying overhead so we believe the cougar nearby got her. RIP Flipper, you will live forever in our hearts.

We live in the southeastern U.S. state of Georgia. There are all sorts of water fowl near us. The birds most common are the Canadian Geese. I love these birds. They're so royal looking. As long as we keep our distance they're certainly not aggressive and are more likely to flee than fight when approached. This makes them difficult to photograph. They eat grass and don't bother anyone who doesn't bother them.

I was just sitting on a bench near the lake, waiting for my next class to start. I was eating a poptart and out of no where it just landed on the bench by me. And it just stared at me for like a minute, it wasnt looking at me but my food, i decided not to risk it, to just sit the poptart down and back away. As soon as i backed away it took the poptart and flew away, i didnt want the smoke, and i feared for my life.

As a child, I grew up on a farm which had a flock of geese. Whenever the man delivering propane to us can, he would get cornered by one of the geese. But, honestly, geese are not so bad, they're merely experts on bluffing others. They're aggressive and mean, but once you've grabbed their neck and control their head, they suddenly become quite docile. But the term "city slickers" is quite appropriate since anyone not experienced with geese are sure to be successfully bluffed by them.

The 2 wild geese hatched a few eggs, and the eggs died. The eggs didn't survive 1 day. Now the wild geese are gone. Yin is alone, I hope Yang comes back. Yin is like my friend, I want things to get better for him, and for Yang to come home.
